  • Hello and thank you for putting in the time and effort to make the vids ::: 1) Did you compare / contrast Patriot with Turtleback? If so, what pushed you to the Patriot 2) Is the "seating area" comfortable enough to fully relax during rainy days (stretch out, read, etc, etc)? It appears that the low and straight backs make it more suitable for a quick lunch, then out. I've had this question since Patriot did their hour long X-3 intro video. . . I love the concept, just concerned about long hours inside due to weather,.

    @Tekdvr911@Tekdvr9113 жыл бұрын
    • Hey Road Rage, love the name 😀 and thanks for watching and reaching out! 1) Yes, we did do a lot of research on the Turtleback trailers among others.... like too much time lol. They are great trailers but we didn't want a roof top tent on top for a number of reasons: A) we're getting older and didn't want steep stairs to have to climb up/down especially in the middle of the night when you have to do your business B) It makes the trailer top heavy and your center of gravity isn't as low as I'd like it. You can see a number of Turtleback trailers on KZhead that have flipped due to this issue C) You can't stand up, stretch, and move around in a roof-top tent. I've been backpacking/camping all my life and no longer want to be trapped in a tent whether it's on the ground or on top of a vehicle/trailer, so being able to stand up was a critical desire of ours which leads to question 2.... 2) The seating area is what it looks like, marine grade cushions with a low straight back. However, we just take our pillows from the bed area and put them behind our backs and there's plenty of storage space to bring more pillows if needed to solve that problem. And since you can raise up the seating area for another "bed" makes for another laying option. Is it going to be like chilling in your lazy boy or media couches at home.... no lol but to have this type of area while off-grid in the middle of no where is gold. In fact, the inside area of the X3 is what really sold us due to having an area inside we can stand, sit, lay down, chill when weather is crappy outside. With the flip up table I even have a place I can work, edit videos, etc. You can still access your refrigerator from inside but technically with the awning and walls up, you have full enclosure to your kitchen outside.The reality is you will not find a trailer that closes up to as small of a space but still provide you living quarters like the X3 provides. Is it perfect no, but we drove all the way to Durant, OK to see it and put our hands on before actually making the purchase There are many other reasons that pushed us to the Patriot X3 but these are just a few. Let me know if you have any further questions.

    • Glad you enjoyed! The X3 comes with one propane bottle and you can option for a 2nd one. The X3 base is in the $54k range now which is an increase from last year. Most of the options on the other models come standard on the X3 which is why the base price is higher. @MustangMatt69@MustangMatt693 жыл бұрын
    • The X3 is just laid out better for the way we want to travel and base camp. We don't have younger kids anymore so we don't need the huge footprint and extra living area that an X1 gives you if you have a larger family or more than two children. The living area inside with the sitting area and table works better for us since I can work if need be in there if the weather is crappy outside and we need a place to retreat. We can also stand up inside which is key for us for changing and just being able to stretch. My wife and I love how the tent area is very roomy and has lots of windows all around. The kitchen area is bigger and the stainless steel countertop is the largest that comes on a Patriot Camper which if you've ever been camping before, you know that having counter space comes at a premium. There's more reasons why we chose the X3 over the X1 and other trailers but I'll save that for another video 😀

      @MustangMatt69@MustangMatt693 жыл бұрын
    • With the X3 you can order an extra bunk bed that goes in place where the table is that can accommodate two children if need be. When I get it back out I’ll do an actual measurement but I’m around 5’10” and can stand up without it touching my head but remember the tallest point in the tent is right in the middle where the actual benches are so if you’re over 6’ tall, your head will probably touch the top of the canvas on the side where the table is but you can move more towards the center to get more headroom if that makes sense.

    @michaelm480@michaelm4803 жыл бұрын
    • It does great but remember I have the EcoDiesel so I've got about 442 lb-ft of low end torque which makes towing it a breeze. What year FJ do you own? I know the later years added more HP and torque and I believe the towing rating is 5000 lbs so I wouldn't think you would have any problems at all.

    @catortega3881@catortega38813 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for all the love! I am also running the Diesel engine on my Rubicon and so far loving it. Towing has been great obviously due to the low end torque. I'll be doing a walk-around vid of it probably at some point. Couple things to note though: 1) It does sag somewhat in the rear. It's not as bad as I was thinking it would be but it is noticeable and at some point will probably install some rear aigbags for the suspension. 2) The rear door will not open and clear the towbar and hitch due to the spare tire being too low. I need another 3-4" of clearance so I need to figure that out another tire carrier setup. 3) You will go through more DEF fluid when towing

Is it dust proof with the top down, say if you travel on gravel roads or with the top up and say if you get caught in a dust storm? With the diesel heater how cold do you feel like you could comfortably camp given the absolute minimum would be 32 to prevent the water tank and lines from freezing. Are you happy with your decision to purchase the skirt? Thanks and this was a great review.

    @asherdog9248@asherdog92483 жыл бұрын
    • Hey Asher, thanks for watching and commenting! I'll try to answer most of your questions but remember we just got the X3 so won't be able to answer some with real world experience yet. 1) Is it mosquito proof? Yes it can be but in the middle of the tent on both sides when it's deployed is some velcro that needs to be inspected and properly sealed otherwise there can be open air areas where flying insects could find there way in. 2) Dust proof/dust storm proof? I haven't been caught in a dust storm yet but knowing and seeing how these things seal, you won't have a problem with this when it's closed. With it open, you just have to make sure the areas that are velcro are sealed properly like I mentioned previously. Plus the Patriot Campers are used and tested in Australia which has some of the most extreme weather conditions. Nothing is perfect but if you watch Patriot Games, you can see how they abuse these trailers and how they hold up to conditions like these. 3) The diesel heater, I've been asked this question so many times so looks like I need to do a video on this topic 😀. I have tested this in the cold with real data. The diesel heater will keep the inside temp around 12-14 degrees warmer than what the outside ambient temperatures are. So if it's 32 outside, you can reasonable expect the diesel heater to keep the inside of the tent around 44-46 degrees. I've been cold weather camping/backpacking in the past many times but I supplement the diesel with a Buddy heater which keeps my wife happy when it's cold, and a happy wife is a happy life 🤣. However, cold weather camping is the one weak area of Patriot Campers as the water tanks aren't fully insulated as well as the lines. However, because the diesel heater is so efficient you can leave it on 24/7 to prevent lines from freezing even when towing it so you have that option. 4) Are you happy with your decision to purchase the skirt? I'm not sure what you mean by "the skirt". Can you clarify?

  • how would this differ from an OPUS that is half the cost, with similar features and high end materials?

    @NATIVES1N@NATIVES1N3 жыл бұрын
    • Hey, thanks for taking the time to leave us a comment. It might seem from afar that an OPUS and Patriot Camper are similar but there are many significant differences: - The frame and towbar is different as well as the hitch - The airbag CruiseMaster suspension is nothing like you can get on any other trailer (Patriot partnered with CruiseMaster and they made a custom suspension that can't be used on anything else) - The wheels are different - The size and weight is very different and the Patriot being so small yet still providing so much storage and living space is a big pro for me. - All metal and aluminum construction, OPUS has a a lot of wood being used on the interior with vinyl flooring - The kitchen layout is very different along with all the cooking appliances and use of stainless steel counter tops everywhere outside and inside. - The batteries and battery management system, pure sine wave power inverter, tow vehicle power, solar etc are all different and managed by RedArc, the best in the business which OPUS doesn't have. - The interior is very different and the construction of the "tent". - The awning type and construction is different - The water/air heat runs via a diesel Webasto And the list goes on. None of this is a ding on OPUS, quite the opposite, but to say they are similar is not being well informed. I think OPUS is a great trailer for the money but the size and weight of it, use of an air compressor to inflate the tent, how big and tall it inflates is not my preference, use of wood and vinyl, it's kitchen layout, power options, and some other things didn't line up with me and my wife's personal preferences in what we wanted. Hope that helps a little and let me know if you have any other questions.

  • This would be perfect for my family but I can't get over the price. I can buy an Air Opus 4 for around $20k but of course it's heavier and longer. This X3 is over $50k.. more than double to save weight and size. I don't get it. I'd love to hear a logical explanation of why they cost so much more.

    @marcusbush336@marcusbush3363 жыл бұрын
    • Hey, thanks for stopping by and watching and leaving us a comment! I completely understand about price and my wife and I were at first reluctant. It wasn't until we took a 26 hour round trip in a 36 hour period to the only dealer in the US to see it in person and put our hands on it that we were sold on the features and abilities that it would give my wife and I as we go on our adventures, both short and long. Here's the thing, I could go on and on about certain features and why we picked the X3 over the many other great trailers out there, but "value" is a very subjective thing. A certain feature or what I value and am willing to pay extra for is going to be very different than someone else's based on my own past experiences and the way my wife and I want to travel and experience the great outdoors. You also have the law of diminishing return which applies with a lot of things in life. Just because something is double the price doesn't necessarily mean you are getting double the features, performance, quality, etc. I'll probably do a video on this as this question really needs a much deeper and more concise explanation than I'm really able to provide in the comments section. But here are a couple things that for me personally, I put a high value on. Remember the adage, one mans junk is another mans treasure 😀, but the X3 is far from junk lol: - You will not find another trailer out there as small as the Patriot Camper X3 that provides you as much living, sleeping, storage, eating space than the X3. I wanted a trailer that was not wider or taller than my Jeep when being towed. Couple reasons for this is I needed to be able to store it in a small area, we have trails that are very small with dense foliage and sometimes two way traffic on these small trails. I want to know if my Jeep can get through a tight area of a trail, then my trailer can too. It's also way more aerodynamic when towing and due to its very low center of gravity, safer and more secure on and off the trails. Also when deployed, the top of the tent area is still low enough to fit into some small dispersed camping areas that might have lower hanging branches/trees. - As small as the trailer is, when deployed I have a full sitting area with table for working or eating, I can stand up in it, put a toilet inside if need be and the sleeping area is very roomy with windows all around. Being able to stand up inside, sit and work and eat if it's cold, windy, or stormy out was a must for me and my wife due to my 30+ years of backpacking/camping experience in every type of weather conditions. - Patriot Campers are built like tanks and the frame design and thickness is the best I've seen. It might even be overkill but I like knowing how rugged this thing is and can take a beating and will probably outlast a couple jeeps I'll end up owning 😀. - Because I do videography, I carry a lot of computer and camera gear which require a lot of power options and proper BMS and pure sine wave inverter equipment. The X3 provides so many different power options which I love for the way I work and do videography. RedArc BMS systems are the best on the market IMO and I don't want to be plugging my expensive laptops and equipment into anything less. - The kitchen layout how it's L shaped and how large of a flat workspace you have is the best setup I've seen on a trailer out there when it comes to food prep, cooking, cleaning/washing, grilling, access to fridge, etc. This was a huge selling point for my wife in addition to the roominess inside and ability to standup. There are many more reasons but again I'll save it for a video. I'm no manufacturer expert or mechanical engineer but I do know that these Patriot Campers use some of the very best materials around. Are they perfect... no, nothing is but you are getting the very best in such a small form which is an engineering effort in itself to provide this much living area and storage area in such a small footprint. You are getting something that is going to last over a decade if maintained and taken care of IMO. Again, if you are doing a couple camping trips a year then yeah, this is definitely not worth it. I always tell people to use what you have and slowly upgrade your gear to better or different gear as you figure out how you best want to camp and travel. Again, I've been camping/backpacking for over 30 years so I knew exactly the conveniences of home and features I wanted to provide for me and my wife that I was willing to pay for. There is no right or wrong way as everyone has different financial limits, stages in life, what they value and what experiences they want to have when exploring. The great thing is we have so many options for people to choose from these days. Also, renting a teardrop trailer is a great way to get your feet wet especially for your significant other as my wife didn't have a lot of camping experience and it helped her see what she liked and didn't like about that experience which helped push us to the X3 option as well. Wow, I'm long winded and typed too much 🤣. Hopefully this answered some of your questions/concerns and let me know if you have any other questions!

    • @@NoLimitsOverland Holy crap that was a long explanation, but thank you! lol I have to ask, did you consider other trailers before picking this one? were you familiar with the Air Opus 2 and 4 models? I'm wondering how they compare for the things you describe. I have looked at them personally and they cover a lot of the needs you listed except they are definitely longer than the X3, but, more spacious inside.

      @marcusbush336@marcusbush3363 жыл бұрын
    • Yes, we looked at many other trailers like the Turtleback and almost pulled the trigger on the Off Grid Trailers from Canada. The Opus I looked at but didn't like the kitchen layout among other things. Also, personal preference but didn't like the fact that I had to depend on power/mechanical equipment to get my shelter setup. I didn't like the fact that when off-grid I would be draining precious power/batter resource to get my shelter up and wasn't a fan of how high/large it got. For tall people it's definitely a pro but for me I didn't want it blowing up that big. Also didn't like the thought of not being able to get your shelter setup due to a malfunction when off-grid due to it's dependency on motors and power. Again, everyone has different preferences so there is no right or wrong choice really as it really depends on what kind of experience you want to have and how you want to travel and explore. Everything has it's pros and cons and nothing is perfect as you have to trade some things no matter which ones you look at. For me, I didn't want anything that large and heavy as it would require me getting another vehicle as a Jeep has a max tow capacity of 3500lbs so any trailer near that or over it was not even considered which ruled out the Opus pretty quickly.

    @TeacherCarlsTravels@TeacherCarlsTravels3 жыл бұрын
    • Hey, I'm actually working on another vid that talks about that and winter camping with it 😀. To answer your question, it depends on the person. For me it's enough but for my wife not so much lol. However, I have actual data that shows that the diesel heater is able to keep the internal temperature of the tent about 12-14 degrees warmer than what the outside temperature is. So not great but it's something. At the end of the day it's a canvas tent with no insulation properties so a buddy heater is nice to have on hand in cold situations that you need to quickly knock the chill off right before bed and/or right before you get up.

      @NoLimitsOverland@NoLimitsOverland3 жыл бұрын
    • I have a Kodiak Canvas 10x14, and prefer winter camping. I use a buddy heater which works great, so long as you don't turn it off. We have zero degree sleeping bags for night. I like the idea of using an electric blanket, which works fine if you're not boondocking, or you have lots of battery.

    • Because the X3 has that inside entry way/sitting area, it's enough space for us to put our Cleanwaste Go Anywhere portable toilet inside for my wife or I to use and she has without any issues. We actually have three options, inside the X3 for emergencies or if the weather is cold/nasty, outside under the awning with the walls up, or inside our Joolca shower/bath tent that can be placed right near our awning. Part of the journey is figuring out stuff like that together as a couple and making modifications as you go along that work best for you. I'm just thankful I have a wife that is wanting to go on this journey with me, is fine with some inconveniences, and is ok with figuring things out as we go out on adventures.
