@TeethTalk I love your knowledgeable advice!! ❤ just wanted your opinion, do you recommend synsodyne toothpaste for medium level of periodontal disease? 🙁
I had inflammation on my gums at one point. Switched to electric toothbrush with soft bristles twice a day and started flossing at least once per day. Mouthwash once a day but not necessarily as you stated. My gum pockets came right down and are nice and strong with no bleeding anymore. It does work, I have witnessed it myself. Please take care of your mouth people it is very important and will prevent even harder and costly procedures in the future.
Adding 2 drops of tea tree oil is great as well for gum health
@@Samiarainhello, do you add it to your toothpaste? And how many times?
@@r19888 2 drops on my toothbrush and I brush; you can add it to your toothbrush paste as well. I do 2x a week.
exact same thing happened to me
Really good. Only thing I would change is that if you use a water flosser (water pik), do it BEFORE you brush your teeth if you want to keep some fluoride in-between your teeth.
Agree!
It seems counterproductive to brush and then wash it all away! So I water floss first. 😊
fluoride is poison FYI
I have a water flosser, my dentist has always told me to use it first, then brush, then floss with regular floss afterwards.
nah
I love how you addressed the fluoride topic! 👏👏👏
i love your teaching and presentation, your teaching is helping me to take care of my teeth very well which had boosted my confident and stage presents
1) brush 2) scrape 3) water flosser for gingivitis 4) anticavity mouthwash 5) trad floss PERFECT X>>
Girl I just love watching your videos, You're such an icon and the videos are so ASMR omg
Oh my goodness, this is a super informative video. I learn so much from your videos. I have an effective oral care routine and the dental hygienist and dentist see so much improvement. I told them I stepped up my oral care using your tips and suggestions. Thank you 😊
YESSSS this makes me so happy! keep up the great work! :) and thank you for your kind comment!
This video was very helpful I even took notes, I’ve always done just brushing and mouthwash but I tend to have cavities and really wanted an advice for a good routine so I’m really happy that I found this video!
you got this!!! thank you for watching! wishing you the best dental care!
Omg, thank you all these years I thought that fluoride was not good for the teeth now I can use it with no guilt 😅❤❤
Love your videos and you've definitely helped me up my oral care game!
!!! thank you SO much :)
It’s really hard for me to listen to someone for too long, and I didn’t felt like that listening to you! You are so pleasant to listen to and professional! I’m going to get my tongue scraper right away! ❤
best compliment ever! thank you for being here! happy tongue scraping!
@teethtalk Can you do separate video of recommended practices for night owls and late night eaters? Some folks are struggling with their nighttime routine which affects their oral hygiene routine. For instance if you tend to sleep at 2am, is it best to make sure you floss and brush at some point before midnight or by 1:30am? Thanks in advance!
Excellent video, thank you and Happy New Year!🎉
thank you!!! happy 2024!!!!! :)
I've been following you for years and I've been sharing videos with my family! Here's my routine right now. ☀️Morning * Brush with fluoride(/some new tech for enamel remineralising) Toothpaste * Tongue scraper * Mouthwash (anti gum disease) 🌃Night * Mouthwash (anti gum disease) * Floss (gum Angled floss sticks) * Brush * Tongue Scraper I started using a dedicated tongue scraper because of your channel and i noticed my mouth still feeling and smelling fresh the next morning. From a variety of videos and personal experience with my teeth, i do the 45 degree gum aimed brush sweep from gum line to teeth tip (instead of brushing up and down), then i do a 45 degree aimed at gum, wiggle in one place brushing (not dragging my brush side to side). Circle brushing without flossing made me develop more plaque than up-and- down drag brushing without flossing. (I think my dentist told me to circles on my first visit 12 years ago, where i only need a mild cleaning after doing up and down once a day, no flossing for 18 years😅) I've since discovered different dentists have their own ideas of optimal technique. I added flossing because you talk about the importance of it a lot, enough for me to do more research and buy string floss but i could never make that into a habit. But now that I've bought y shaped floss Sticks, I've been able to stick to it. And now I'm a floss Evangelis😊. also never want to do deep cleaning ever again😅 I try to brush before the first meal, you mentioned in a video/short that in your patients, the least problems you see is the before-breakfast brushers, i had the hypothesis that it's because they've swept away some bacteria that built up overnight before adding sugar/carbs to their mouth. feeding the bacteria is the precursor for lactic acid production, if there's less of them there, over *many* years, the daily tiny amount of lactic acid production that you prevent from being in contact with your teeth by reducing bacteria count before breakfast may add up?
Happy new year Whitney! Hope you had a great holidays relaxing time 🦷🪥🪥🦷🦷🪥🪥🦷🦷🪥🦷🪥🪥🪥🦷🪥🪥🪥🦷🪥🪥🦷🪥🪥🪥🦷🪥🪥🎊🎊🎉🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎉🎉🎉🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊🎉🎉🎊

@@TeethTalk aww thanks 😊
I'm really grateful for your videos, you taught me how to properly take care of my teeth and gums.💖 I don't have a problem with the texture of a little toothpaste left on my teeth. I never rinse after brushing my teeth ,for at least 30 minutes. And I always use a toothpaste with at least 1450ppm fluoride. I'm getting braces next month, and thanks to you, my orthodontist complimented my oral hygiene. I've got my last tartar removal about 18 months ago, and there's almost no new buildup. Even though I'm an adult, that was a first, and I'm very proud of it.🤩

The mouthwash part is something new I learned.
Love the way you explain 💗 is it good to brush 3X a day? THANKS!
Ong l love Whitney so much she has educated me on oral hygiene, and has helped me improve my oral routine
thank you so much for watching and commenting kind! keep up the great dental health!
I brush, floss and rinse with listerine ( I actually use the generic equivalent ) only once a day before bed and I haven't had any new cavities in the last 20 plus years I've been doing it. I oftentimes will rinse with the antiseptic in the morning to freshen my mouth. At night I rinse with my head down back and fourth for 3 minutes min. A dentist told me this once and now I know why MOST dentists DON'T tell this to their patients (they get paid for fixing problems NOT preventing them )
Perfect video to begin the new year! 🥳 What are your thoughts on those gum stimulator tools? (Usually have a conical rubber tip on the end) Are those a worthwhile addition to a routine?
Thank you! And some patients like to use them! I don't usually recommend unless I see severely puffy gums that are not improving. I've found the combination of electric TB, water flosser, and floss usually helps enough! But it can't hurt to add stimulators to routines as long as you're using them properly :) Always ask your personal hygienist what they think is best for your individual mouth :)
@@TeethTalk Awesome, thanks for the info! ☺

I love the ACT watermelon mouthwash.
You have such a cool surname xD But on topic thank you so much for your videos. You are awesome !!!
Here's my order: 1. Water floss 2. Flosser woven with Cocofloss 3. CariFree Treatment Rinse, swoosh around mouth and gargle. 4. Brush with CariFree 1100 gel 5. Tongue scrape
Love this!
thank you for watching!
When Im getting glum, I watch your videos to perk up! Thanks Whitney!
I didn't know about using the antiseptic mouthwash before flossing/brushing, I'm gonna try that out. I normally use that mouthwash after brushing my teeth in the morning, then use anticavity mouthwash after brushing before going to bed.
It’s also important to be careful about what mouthwash you’re using. Non alcoholic and non acidic mouthwashes are much better, I’m not sure if you know so just thought I’d mention it but some mouthwashes (particularly the anti septic ones) can be highly acidic and brushing that into your teeth is doubly as bad!
Where would you put coconut oil pulling?
I use water floss Then I use string floss Then I use interdental brush Then I brush my teeth with electric toothbrush
Omg isn’t that a lot?
I started tongue scraping about two years ago and I couldn't do without it now!! I do it only in the morning and as a first step and then I brush my teeth 🪥. I don't floos, I tried but I can't keep up with it, however might try the little brushes, do you have to disinfect it after each use? How long for can you use one ?
Are there interdental brushes that are reusable and also able to be sanitized so there is less waste? Yes they aren't necessarily single waste and can be used multiple times but you still have to throw them out? Or do you know of any compostable brushes?
You’re the best
I hate hearing “Ask your doctor if you have questions, ask your dentist”. Most MDs (not saying this is you) stop their learning as soon as they leave college and never read a research paper again in their life. I can say for certain I know more about certain things I’m interested in relating to health than 90% of doctors would just from reading research papers and staying up to date. Maybe it’s good advice for the average person in America because I think people forgot how to self teach in general.
If i have to brush my teeth before eating anything is it ok to brush them after breakfast also ? , I always drink tea at breakfast and I don' like the feel of it on my teeth.
Love watching your videos 🦷🪥
thank you so much for watching!
Hi, any thoughts on high-fluoride toothpaste (1%)? Would love to see a video about it
prescription toothpaste is great for those who need it (i.e. those with severe tooth sensitivity, enamel erosion, etc) will def add to my video ideas list! thank you!
If I have Anti cavity mouth wash , should I wait 30 minutes after brushing or is it ok to use it right after ?
I do this Floss Tongue scraper Brush teeth and tongue (electric) Mouth wash Don’t rinse it out 2x day Want to 3x Water floss if run out Sadly have to have two mouthwashes and two toothpastes Because whitening stuff dries me out more So have to use sulfate free healthy stuff too
You don’t rinse out the mouth wash????
From the booking process to the end result, Toothsi is best.
1. Anti septic mouthwash (optional) 2. Brush teeth 3. Water flosser 4. Tongue scrapper 5. Anti cavity mouthwash
I usually tounge scrape, rinse with Biotene and then brush with Stannous Fluoride toothpaste. And then spit and LEAVE it alone to work. I use Sensodyne Repair and Protect Deep Repair. I only add the steps of flossing with piks and using perio protect trays only at night. I do have 3 crowns on 3 root canal teeth, so I use string around those.
Stannous is a metal, Tin to be precise. I would stick with Sodium Fluoride
I'm not great with flossing technique, so is it ok to interdental brush, and then just pop a floss pick between the point where the teeth meet?
Instead of brushing twice a day, can you brush at night and rinse with a fluoride mouthwash in the morning? My logic is that the physical scrubbing action of the toothbrush is only needed at night and can actually cause harm if done too much. On the other hand toothpaste has a lot more fluoride and better kinds like Stannous.
I LOVE THIS ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ 💕 💘 ❤️ 😍 💖
thanks for sharing. i wonder why in the direction of my tongue scraper, they say use before brushing
either way works! as long as you're doing it :)
What do you think about the prescription based toothpaste, Prevident?
it's great for those who need it! for example -- severe sensitivity, enamel erosion, etc!
The water flosser only works good when after you just ate
So it’s safe to use antiseptic mouthwash before brushing? I thought since the mouthwash has a low Ph level you wouldn’t want to brush right after.
...there is a general consensus that using it after brushing is more effective for your oral health.
Why antiseptic mouthwash? Are there any research papers i could read? Also isn’t that more harmful not leaving your immune system something
I had a cracked tooth at the back of my mouth so the dentist fixed it with bonding. However the bonding material he also put on like 3-4 teeth before the cracked one and I can feel it with my tongue it’s also quite thick I didn’t need the bonding on all the other teeth. So when I bite down my left side where he put bonding protrudes and my left side (no bonding) has a gap!!! So when I eat on the right side the bonding is just uncomfortable on the left side and now when I close my teeth the right side where he bonded is thick and uncomfy!!! I hope he can reduce it or remove it coz he didn’t need to put it over my teeth where I chew ffs!!
What are your thoughts about flouride in water if your not suppose to be ingesting it?
the toxicity is in the dose. eating a full tube of toothpaste (which is not meant to be consumed) is different than the regulated levels put in water. fluoride in water is one of the most successful public health initiatives in reducing the amount of tooth decay in kids. unfortunately some social media has demonized it, but it is a naturally occurring mineral -- not a toxin. those who claim it's a toxin forget that anything can be toxic at a certain dose. you would need to drink 57 liters of water in one day to hit toxicity. hope this helps!
I'm not sure if there's another place to ask questions or if you even have an answer but I need to vent so... I had tooth pain on and off for a couple months and I finally went and saw a dentist who only did a consultation as a one-time thing because they don't take my insurance. They took x-rays and I was told that I need two teeth removed and another tooth needs either a root canal or to be removed. My insurance doesn't cover root canals and I have no income. I also live alone. I have called over a dozen general dentist in my area and at least four oral surgeons. Several but not all of which were recommended by my company when I call the number on my card. I only found one person who is willing to pull three teeth that excepts my insurance. I just found out they might ask for a deposit at time of service. I plan on calling them when they open tomorrow and if they're going to require a deposit I have to cancel this appointment. If that happens I don't know what else to do but give up. And because one of the teeth needs either a root canal or to be removed I'm terrified I'm going to end up with sepsis. I also can't brush until it's taken care of because it hurts so bad.
No help but hope that goes okay

@SamanthaBCope so sorry for all your trouble & pain. You might see if there is a dental school near you that allows students to work on your teeth at a low cost or no cost. Also might check on Physicians Mutual Dental insurance. I understand it is very reasonable. Good luck & hope you find relief soon.
I floss three times a day(breakfast, lunch, dinner) is that safe on my teeth?
Is there a chance wax (or normal) floss can remove the fluoride if you’re brushing before flossing?
i'm not sure but you can always use a dental floss with fluoride so you don't remove any fluoride but also add it where the toothpaste can't reach
I went to the dentist today and she told me exactly this and that brushing without rinsing should be my last step to make sure all my teeth have a nice fluoride coating
For the anti cavity mouthwash, do you have any recommendations for adults who HATE mint? Literally can’t stand any version of mint (in anything), so I am currently using the ACT Kids Mouthwash (bubblegum flavor), which I hope has the same ingredients and does the same thing as the adult ones. I’m pretty sure it contains fluoride. Either way, the whole mint thing just isn’t going to happen, tbh. Also, currently using the fruit flavor kids flossers (floss picks) for that same reason. The lack of flavor choices for adult dental products is pretty disappointing.
YESSS! I hear you! ACT is my go-to for non-mint flavored mouthwash! And also cocofloss has great options for the traditional string floss! it's totally okay to use kid-dental products (such as toothpaste and mouthwash) as long as they are NOT fluoride-free. hope this helps!
Hi, what’s your opinion on fluoride in the water supply? We have it where I live, so infuriating, that you can’t have a choice. Thank you
It's one of the most successful public health initiatives to date in reducing the amount of tooth decay in kids, so I'm all for it. Some social media pages have demonized it, but it is a naturally occurring mineral, not a toxin. Those who claim it's a toxin forget that anything can be toxic at a certain dose. You would need to drink 57 liters of water in one day to hit toxicity. Hope this helps inform!

Thank you. I have found your videos and website very reassuring and informative.
Doesn't a water flosser after brushing defeat the purpose of the toothpaste by rinsing it away? You say it's only a big deal if you are prone to cavities but said right before that you only need to use a water flosser if you're prone to cavities
Whitney! When’s the next dental cleaning video
filming one in February :) :) :)
I gotta be honest I just tried it and I can’t seem to get all of my teeth I already have periodontitis.
I love string flossing, especially before brushing. I’m glad I’m not cavity prone. It just makes sense for me.. get the gunk out and then brush it away. So freaking satisfying and when you brush the tongue with a manual brush, and then scrape it… 😆🤤
So, do you want to brush your tongue with your toothbrush and then scrape, or just not brush the tongue and only use the tongue scraper?
either way works! whatever feels best :)
I like to tongue scrape first. to get that 90% of junk out of my mouth before brushing.

For me, it is floss, brush, water floss gums, tongue scrape.
I used to have horrible dental hygiene, 8 cavities in 1 visit, wouldn't floss at all and had multiple deep cleanings. I use a water pik, string floss, brush, tooth scraper and mouthwash. I'm proud of how far I've come. Haven't had cavities in years.
That’s great, do you do it twice a day?

same! i have lots of cavities too, im only a minor and i already have lots of cavities. my parents didn't teach me much about all of these things, as i grow. i realized how oral hygiene really is important, I've been taking care of my teeth now but i never had a dental checkup 😭 im saving up my allowance to fix my teeth

How is you teeth so white?
Why would my dentist leave the black rings behind my teeth everytime I go for a cleaning?. Now she is calling the black rings for 6500.00 in work. But she needed a year off of work so I am definitely taking a that long vacation as a possible and probable need for the extra money. That long of a vacation can’t come cheap. However, she broke my tooth and then tried to have me pay for said tooth. I go back, she leaves black rings on the back of my teeth and then claimed my teeth looked great, nothing wrong at all. Wrong with me though! When I called to get my 6 month check up she’s 1.5 years out due to vacation. I go back yesterday. She wants lots of money for the same healthy teeth 1.5 years ago. (According to her, not me remind you) They look better than they did then. I’m so confused why a dentist wouldn’t clean the entirety of the tooth. Or if it just not that big of a deal that I am making it.
Can we brush our teeth with hydrogen peroxide?? What are the pros and cons of that??
here's my video about that -- hope this helps: kzhead.info/sun/kqWfka6ea39se58/bejne.html

nano-hydroxyapatite was banned in europe?
It isn't

Guilty of not flossing much because I get grossed out sticking my hands in my mouth even after freshly washing them lol
Floss picks! Y shaped ones to be exact, after a recent bout of teeth health scare I've clamped down in my teeth care practices but me and string floss are still not best friends, and the normal floss picks feel useless cos I can't use them on the molars and back teeth, Y shaped ones are awesome.
Floss, dental pik, water pik then brush for me.
Why do some people toothpaste without fluoride anyway???????
Fluoride is the only ingredient approved by the American Dental Association in cavity prevention. However, unfortunately people get confused because fluoride is toxic if used incorrectly (like if you were to eat the entire tube of toothpaste in one sitting)... But that's with literally every product lol like you also shouldn't eat chapstick, face lotion, etc. So, just use products as directed and then it's all good! Hope this helps!
You bet it does@@TeethTalk xx

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and aids in the prevention of tooth decay. Fluoride is not a toxin. Lots of people are spreading misinformation on social media - either knowingly to sell their own product or unknowingly. Research shows that false information online travels farther, faster, deeper, and more broadly than the truth (Vosoughi et al., 2018). Those who *still* claim it’s a toxin often forget that EVERYTHING can be toxic at a certain dose. You can have too much oxygen in the air, and you won’t be able to breathe, because it would be toxic at a certain dose. Also, I’m not coming at you if you prefer non-fluoride. Luckily, we are all in charge of our own bodies, and which toothpastes we use. I’m just providing my evidence-based, professional stance for when people come at me :) and I’ve had far too many patients switch to non-fluoride and next time I see them they have cavities :( Lastly, do I think nano-hydroxyapatite is good? Yes, the studies look promising. It appears to be safe and effective, although the data is limited. 🦷 SOURCES: doi.org/10.1126/science.aap9559 doi.org/10.3390/biomimetics5030041 www.cdc.gov/fluoridation/basics/anniversary.htm?fbclid=IwAR354X0KsgZjCxwda0xo1EbuL1sMC470mfbWMrkutNBRzmmpDwe-WqNns_M_aem_AefXApMKxZMZYOGCJo97SJFLO_Mb1zBF-Qo-d9qewM4QyYNQMnwg7jnCGh0mYOjuO_clqkfvJF3kQUWuHDPjAJvL www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6398117/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9379195/ clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04155658 now.tufts.edu/2013/03/20/other-fluoride-benefits-stannous-fluoride www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK430743/#:~:text=Severe%20cases%20of%20oxygen%20toxicity,premature%20infants%2C%20and%20underwater%20divers. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35446163/
