Either there's a deleted scene where Ares explained he does not believe a mortal can handle the power from that box or maybe because at that size looking for a box a size of a sugar cube on the ground in the middle of the night is too uncomfortable for him.
kratos had a more troubled, tortured look in his cutscenes from this game. in god of war 2 and 3, they made him look more and more angry and obsessed, and in the new games, he looks wise, tired and worried.

This is false, God of War 2 Kratos ends up showing just as much emotion if not more than his GOW1 counterpart... He simply had a set conviction of killing the gods at the very end.

All Ares had to do was not make Kratos kill his family, seriously, just that.
He could’ve blamed it on Athena then the story would’ve been different but keep in mind, ares saw Kratos as himself but mortal and as seen on GoW2 when Atreus tells Kratos the city they were fighting in, Sparta was gonna win the battle, I’m sure Kratos only saw the fight so maybe ares only paid attention to the action and only helped if anyone calls upon his name so ya idk

I'm glad this game evaded me in my youth when it came out. Playing it now at 30 and it is one of the best games I've ever played. Great fighting system and story is deeper than I knew. See why it was so praised finally

I’m pretty sure Kratos only ever felt ever-living pride at the term, but I’ve always laughed at *_EVERYONE_* and their mother who ever said “Spartan” to him like it was an insult.

After playing the new game Ragnarok , it is so amazing to see how much Kratos's character has changed! It is so rare for a video game character to experience even a little character growth, yet, the Kratoes in the most current games is so far removed from this Young, brash, arrogant, angry, version of Kratos that someone new to the God of War franchise would think these are two completely separate people.
Yeah the growth is just insane to see.

@@jeremyallen5974 "Overrated" as if Kratos and God of War in general isn't wanked to high heaven nowadays; say anything remotely negative about 'em and the fanboys immediately jump on you. Dante spouts wisecracks because he knows he's stronger, so he likes to have fun and be flashy with the fight, experimenting with weapons and taunting the opponent and all that. Kratos goes all in on his fights and doesn't spend any time on banter, his style is a lot grittier by nature.

What's really messed up is that both Kratos and Ares are brothers. Orkos, the son of Ares from GoW: Ascension is technically the nephew of Kratos.
Kratos and Orkos could be the same age though. Kratos had deimos Kidnapped by Ares and Athena when he was Little.
Funnily enough, almost every supernatural person that Kratos kills in the Classic/Greek Mythology Era of the games is related to him. Yes, even Castor and Pollux.

Wow ares is so kind that he allowed kratos to come down from a mountain(ok we say he jumped) and then kratos open the box slowly and ares just waiting for his death...yeah it totally makes sense
In the novel he throws the bolt and then jumps down to the box before it even strikes the chain, so he's waiting for it.
"Trunks vs Zamasu" was like "Kratos vs Ares" Half humans with power of "RAGING HOPE" killed "DERANGED GODS" with a "GIANT SWORD"

surprised this game still holds up. recently replayed my ps2 library i found in my closet (that being god of war 1 and 2, shadow of the colossus, ratchet and clack and sly cooper) and i gotta be honest this one is easily the best. i think it shares the spot with shadow of the colossus as the best ps2 game of all time.

@@alexthievery7834 There are a lot of characters that can resist Genjutsu though, hell Kratos resisted shit like that in Chains of Olympus which was before this, but what Ares did wasn't even Genjutsu, it was real we see him teleport Kratos away in GoW 2 when we fight one of the Fates. Also, why would you be sad Ares died? He was worse than Kratos at this point, he did all this evil shit before Kratos even opened Pandora's box, he was just a piece of shit.
@@edwardarroyo884 I’m not sad he died, him dying just doesn’t make sense, every God in the pantheon was broken in strength, and kratos is just a demi god, he should not have had a sliver of a chance in killing any of them, not to mention they should have had superior intellect as well, example ares using “genjutsu”
@@alexthievery7834 Kratos was considered extremely strong for a Demi god though, same as Herc, and Kratos got the strongest powerup in the series, and already had multiple powers from other Gods, it's not that absurd compared to a lot of other ways Gods usually get beaten. Take Percy beating Ares as a kid for example, even though Ares couldn't use his full power and was mostly messing around, failing to kill a kid who you are thousands of years older than and that just started training is extremely silly. There are other instances of things like this happening in the series and others of course, but I wanted to use Greek Gods as an example again. Also, why would they have superior intellect by default? Athena probably would, but we are shown that Kratos is quite smart and Athena herself even says as such in the novels. Kratos being really strong and being able to beat very powerful beings isn't inherently plot armor, well technically everything is plot armor, since every character in fiction has it, but a character beating an opponent that is more powerful than themself isn't egregious plot armor automatically.

The final fight with Ares is still one of my favorite boss fights in the entire series!
It seems like they never forgave him for his past cause they had always used it against him throughout the trilogy
