Handmade Outfits for Spring 🌸|Sewing Ideas (+ a free pattern!)
The doom and gloom of the past (exceptionally rainy) fall and winter is finally lifting here in Paris and I can’t wait to bring out some of my favorite handmade Spring garments! I sometimes get distracted and end up wearing my winter clothes in dark colors until early summer, but this year I’m determined to get out of my comfort zone (of mostly sweater dresses) and wear bright, happy Spring colors! I hope you enjoy 😊
In this video, I’m wearing: an Ose Patterns Brené Top and a Muse Patterns Jenna Cardigan.

Dear. You are a gorgeous woman. Elegant and sophisticated. Plus, your sewing is wonderful. So glad you can and like to. Sew. So many younger women sure can’t and don’t want to. Plus, you can get such gorgeous fabrics there in France. I’ve been watching you for a while now and haven’t commented before but thought I would now! I’m recouping from a knee replacement. It’s a struggle. Take care and enjoy your spring. Here in Indiana it’s finally spring here too!!! Nancy from Fort Wayne.
Thank you, that's very kind. The knee is such a complicated joint and recovery must be very tricky. I hope that you're able to rest and you have the help you need. Have lovely spring in Indiana!
I agree !!! I’m thrilled that I came across this video; I will subscribe and try to view all of the videos she has made ❤
The polka dot wrap is lovely. Those suiting trousers are fabulous! The faux wrap skirt is a great choice. Easy to wear. Really elegant tops.
Thank you!
Impeccable 🤩
The square neck (with folded detail) top suits you very well. Thank you for sharing your makes.
Thank you and I'm so glad you liked the video!
I love how you altered the skirt. It IS the perfect color for Printemps! My favorite pattern for this very warm time of year (in Virginia USA) is the Closet Core Pietra Pants that I make in linen or linen/rayon blends. All three views are perfect for Spring and Summer.❤
Thank you! I've made the Pietra Pants once before and it was a flop because I used the wrong fabric and it poufed out in the back under the elastic (😂), but I've been meaning to try it again - the fabrics you mentioned sound perfect!
Each piece looks very flattering on you! I love how you style each outfit, very elevated and beautiful! 🌼
Beautiful garments and they all suit you so well Sarah. ❤❤
Oh, thank you! 😊
Everything looked lovely on you. You are a very particular sewer and that’s why all of your garments are beautiful! I loved them all but one of my favorites was the beautiful print pencil skirt with the cardigan. Simply gorgeous! Always enjoyed your videos. 👗🪡🧵🥰
Thank you so much! I do love that skirt too; it's so easy to wear and the fabric is just so gorgeous!
Peggy Sagers of Silhouette Patterns says to soften denim you wash it in your washing machine with Coca-Cola. I tried it, and it worked! I washed a new pair of woven jeans on warm, low level, with 2 cans of Coke. Nice difference-worth a try! Thanks for your classy style! I appreciate it!
Thank you for the tip! I'm a little nervous about putting Coca-Cola in my washing machine, but I might just try it!
@@Sarah_Naomi Also, according to Peggy, you can do this more than once if necessary to soften denim. Have tried it and it doesn't leave a mess or dye lighter colors any.
Beautiful lady wearing beautiful makes.
All of them are beautiful. Nice job 👍🏿
Thank you so much 😊
Great inspiration and pattern choices Sarah. Look forward to your vlogs.
Thanks so much! 😊
Sareh noemi i love your videos ❤❤
Beautiful garments. Love the trench coat and the wrap dress ❤!
Thank you! 😊
I’ve just discovered your channel, I love your style, it’s both the things I love, France and sewing, you have an authentic aura, new subscriber here. ✂️🧵🪡
I'm so glad and welcome!
Oh, loved this! I went straight over to get the Jenna cardigan. It is exactly the cardigan pattern I have been looking for. Thanks!
I'm so glad! 😊
Beautiful wardrobe ☺️
Very informative and helpful. Thank you
I'm gllad it was helpful!
What a beautiful wardrobe! I have saved several of these links! Thank you for including so much info for patterns and materials!
Thank you and I'm so glad all that information was helpful!
I love your videos, thank you so much for the inspiration you provided!
I'm so glad you like them! 😊
@@Sarah_Naomi I'm particular glad for the discovery of the carlie tee and the brené top. Can't wait to make them! Did you use the recommanded yarn for the tee? I live in Marseille and I'm worried that merino and mohair might be to hot for my climate.
Yes, I used the exact same yarn as in the Knitting for Olive pattern sample. Marseille is such a beautiful city, how lucky you are! Although for a short-sleeved top, this one is pretty warm, but I'm sure you could you could make it with a non-wool yarn for a cooler version.
@@Sarah_Naomi Thanks for your insight I may try it with a cotton merino blend. Thank again for your work, I look forward to your next video!
Love all the looks! Those trousers are such a winner, they look amazing on you! I love the way you styled them, and I think they would also work with any blouse for a more dressy look. And that polka dress is perfection! I wish I could find polka dot fabric more easily, in the US they tend to be so childish.
Thank you so much! And I agree, even though a black and white polka dot design seems so ubiquitous, finding just the right dot size, repeat, and then fiber and stretch content are so tricky. I hope you'll find the right one soon!
Thank you 💕✨ Happy Spring!
Happy Spring to you too! 😊
Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful spring flowers?
I'm glad you enjoyed them!
Your outfits are wonderful. I would like to see your whole skirt collection 🤤. Your style absolutely resonates with me and you are a great inspiration! I definitely have to put the Isla Trench on my To-Sew-List, it is a very timeless piece. My most loved item for spring and autumn is also my coat, it is a Vogue 8884. Good luck with your swimsuit, you can do it!
Thank you!
Great to see younger people sewing 😍 great makes
Love those trousers! I also have a full size difference between wait and hip measurements and have struggled to find pairings that work for the proportions of high-waisted, straight/wider leg trousers. The silhouette which has worked well for me recently is the looser trousers with a looser top that os fully tucked in or belted. That allows the room I need to move while still allowing some waist-definition.
Thank you for your message! I think I'm also slowly learning that looser or stretchy pants are the most comfortable for my body and I'm glad you've found a silhouette that works for you!
I ❤ Robert Kaufman fabrics , sew very beautiful & just sew very fab 😊
Very good my friend ☺️👍
All of these are so beautiful - that trench coat is a show stopper! I'm learning gow to sew and all my garments sure look homemade 😅 - i need a lot of practice to get to where you are!
Thank you and you can do it! I've been sewing for about 8 years and I can say that patience and practice go a long way 😊
I made the Named Isla in the longer length and unfortunately I live in a warmer climate so it’s not needed as much, but it fits perfect and was very rewarding to finish❤
Yes! I find that projects like this coat are intimidating to take on, but I'm so glad it turned out exactly how you wanted it to!
Congratulations on your wedding
Thank you!
Very pretty😍😍😍😍
Im working on the Ose Brené as well right now. It's absolutely lovely, I'm enjoying it a lot. I like your kia skirt as well, might need to add it to the list!
Happy sewing!
❤
Lovely outfits!! I returned a week ago from Japan seeing all the beautiful cherry blossoms. Oh my the fabric shopping was wonderful!!! I was thinking that you could make yourself tops from the wrap dress pattern. It should work with the navy pants. xxxxxxxx
How cool! I'd love to see the cherry blossoms in Japan one day - where did you travel to see them? And thank you for the idea, I think a wrap top would indeed look really nice with the navy pants!
@@Sarah_Naomi We were in a tour that looped around from Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima, ending in Osaka. During the first week of April there were only a few trees here and there and the second week absolutely gorgeous and full blossoms. Truly beautiful.
That sounds so lovely! I heard that the cherry blossoms bloomed later this year than anticipated, so I'm so happy you got to see them!
@@Sarah_Naomi it was as beautiful as can be, plus there was snow to be played in at Fuji! I envy your being able to see all the summer colour that will be happening!
I love your handmade pieces! Might change my 2024 sewing plans to: recreating Sarah's whole wardrobe. 😎 Do you still have any information on the fabrics you used for your projects? Especially for the skirt in the 2nd work outfit?
How, flattering, thank you! Unfortunately, I made most of these projects years ago (the skirt in the 2nd work outfit back in 2017!), so these fabrics aren't around where I originally bought them anymore 🫤
Beautiful pieces! I am scared to make some more fitting trousers for me, therefore usually only elastic waistband.. just because of 30 centimetres difference between my waist and hips. Usually on all patterns, difference 2-3 sizes. I am not at that level of sewing, where I am comfortable to make such a big adjustments. But I hope, one day I will be able to 😂
It is intimidating, but you can do it! Closet Core Patterns have a few great tutorial blog posts (if I remember correctly) explaining how to do it with photos, that might help if you find a pattern you'd like to try!
Predivno
This was very helpful and inspirational, thanks for sharing!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, thanks for a great video, I can’t find where you have mentioned the dress pattern, what pattern should I buy please? Thank you 🙏
Hello and thank you. All the patterns are linked below in the description, and if you mean the polka dot dress, that pattern has been discontinued, but I linked the new one meant to replace it - the Vogue V2000 dress.
I found your channel. I have loved fashion for decades. On active duty in the UK, I spent all of my off duty time, strolling the streets of Paris. Now that I am retired, and I am no longer my flying weight. I am trying to find a dressmaker form in my current size. Do you know of a company which makes full figure dress form. Or one of your Dear Readers. Thank you. Just because I was injured and live in a wheelchair, I do modify my dresses to keep them out of my wheels. Except from that, my love of fashion remains.
Hello and welcome! I'm glad that you were able to explore Paris and I'm sorry to hear that you were injured. No, I don't have experience working with a full figure dress form, so I don't have a brand to recommend in particular. I hope someone here will be able to help you in the comments. I'm glad, however, that your passion for fashion remains and that you're able to modify your clothes to suit your needs; that sounds like a very useful skill to have.
Honey , wear a regular tee shirt with your beautiful navy pants. Ant color will do.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I'm getting a very high pitched buzzing sound in the background of this video that makes it really hard to listen to 🥲
Oh no! I thought I'd fixed that, but when I turn the volume up, I hear it too 😕 Time to go back to researching how to fix it - thank you for letting me know.
