  • I subscribed when you admitted you messed up and continued to fix it instead of edit it out and pretend you wanted it like that all along. That's what I want to see in a crafter. Well done.

  • The patchwork just adds some interesting seam lines, I would have been tempted to add top stitching and make it a feature. I love how the top came out. The hand embroidered spots add a couture touch as hand work always does.

    • I added top stitching on another flip I did a while ago and loved the way it came out! I agree it's an interesting detail that flaunts the fact that it's up-cycled, which is cool. And yes - love couture details, especially if they can't be made by a machine!

  • I saw the center front seam in the intro, and assumed it was a design feature. I am really inspired by both the seaming and embroidery. Though I know embroidery always takes so much longer than I want it to! I have a similar thrifted shirt that I’ve been waiting for some design inspiration for. I think this is it! The seaming on this also reminds me of a recent linen thrift find of mine, which I’ve been enjoying as-is. It has center front and back seams, which at first I found a bit odd, but I think are a subtle and unique design feature, and the look has grown on me!

  • You did a great job! You reminded me of myself when I am doing a new project. “Oh no! I can’t believe I did that!” But like you, I’m always happy when the project is finally finished. I love your embroidery and may try something like it myself. I tend to like a monochromatic look, which is not easy to put together. This idea of using various shades of your of your base fabric to create your design was enlightening. I’m probably 50 years older than you are, so it makes me happy to see and learn from you and how you worked your way through your project. Again, great job!

  • I love the finished top. The admission of your “oops” moments definitely decided me to subscribe. One thing every would be up cycler needs is patience as well as enough creativity to work round the mistakes, and redeem the original aim of the project, which you did beautifully. Well done, and warm wishes from Israel

  • The top is really pretty - you really can't see the side patch and in the preview I assumed the front seam was a style choice - and I appreciated that you showed a lot of your changes during the process which gave me some useful tips. I've been hesitant to add embroidery to my pieces because I feel I'm not good at drawing big designs but this kind of embroidery feels doable for my skill set and you've inspired me to give it a try.

I've never really got a pattern block that suits me, but your young, fresh, inspiring attitude has definitely made me decide to work it out. It's my time now. I have a lovely new sewing machine and a great stash. • The shirt is so cute!! I would really like to see how you finish those hems since i saw its still fraying after you sew em all together. It’d really help me because I’m always confused as to how people finish em especially at the armhole and the sides if they overlock it after sewing if that makes sense 🥺

    @fotfotgemgem@fotfotgemgemАй бұрын
    • I finished all the seams with a sort of criss-cross diamond stitch that is on my machine (I don't have a fancy machine at all, so I'm sure other machines have an equivalent). Basically it's the densest stitch option I have. You're right, after finishing the seams there were still some stray fibers falling out, but those are just the ones that were already frayed. Once they fall out, there won't be any more fraying. Trust me, it's solid. For the armhole and sides, I finished them with the diamond stitch after sewing everything together, but sometimes I will finish the edges first before sewing the pieces together if an area will be hard to get to after its sewn together. If you work with linen, I would highly recommend learning how to do french seams...they are a bit more technical and time consuming, but the final result is beautiful on the inside (no raw edges!) and it's the most solid way to finish fabric that frays. Good luck with your sewing!
