Description:
After a year and a half of waiting to make my short film "Ollie" available for the general public, the moment has arrived to finally share it with all of you. It's remarkable how this project began as a school assignment without putting much effort into the production, but later, when I sat down to edit and weave the narrative together, a wave of appreciation washed over me. I fell in love with the way I had told the story and the powerful message it carried.
Working with my dog Charlie as the main character proved to be a challenge of its own. It took countless hours to coax him into the right positions, and when I think back on this process, I appreciate the dedication required of any filmmaker working with animal actors. While I know there are areas that can be improved, I take immense pride in what I have accomplished as a solo filmmaker. The unexpected reception of "Ollie" at numerous film festivals has astounded me, serving as a testament to the notion that one can create something meaningful with minimal equipment and still garner recognition.
The journey of creating "Ollie" has been a profound learning experience, reinforcing the belief that anyone with passion and determination can produce a piece of cinema that resonates deeply. I am grateful for the opportunity to share this film with the general public, inviting them to witness the magic that unfolds when we embrace the power of storytelling, even in the most humble of circumstances.
Synopsis:
Ollie tells the story of the daily life of a dog at the beginning of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The dog realizes that his human has stopped leaving the house for work in the morning. He feels extremely happy that his human stays in the house all day, every day with him. But one day, the human becomes very sick and suddenly is gone. The dog stays alone for many days without knowing if his human will return.

  • This makes me think of all the people who never came home and all the sweet animal companions who end up in shelters. How my own life I share with my animals is precarious and temporary, just as is our relationships with other humans. Cherish as many moments of love and closeness as you can manage, it's all that's left in the end.

Every moment!! Because no matter how much you do together, how many jokes and games and walks and huggie pets...when they're gone? @globalheart@globalheart2 ай бұрын
    • @@globalheart Condolences 🕊 I smiled at “apple slicing treat time.” Drako loves that. Who is Drako? The Pit Bull mix my son brought home after being told “No.” I’m seeking a good home for him. He cannot go back to the drug house that was willing to trade him for an expensive bike when he was only 2 days old. He had to be bottle fed. I’ve become attached because I end up caring for him. It is not a good time in my life to have a dog, nor can I afford it. He’s grown up large, muscular, and expensive. I’m spending approximately $400 a month on him which I absolutely do not have. Further, I’m turning down work because I don’t want to be away from the dog for too long. I sold my vintage Jeep, the proceeds of which were supposed to go toward buying my house, but instead are going toward the debt I am accruing. I’m hoping to find someone willing to do PET SHARE. With the structure of the family having changed so much in the last 50 yrs, mothers are now at work and dogs are being left in crates or just left alone for too many hours. I am hoping this concept of co-ownership will catch on so that dogs spend less time waiting for owners to come home. Dogs would have 2 families to have adventures with. When one family goes on vacation the other family could step up with love and care. The cost of veterinary care is now astronomical and it is really costly trying to pay for someone to look after your pet. The dog daycares I looked at have between 20 and 25 dogs in one room. That is too stimulating for many dogs. The daycare makes you sign a release saying you understand and agree to the risks… There has to be a better way. I think co-ownership could work. Rescues might form a structure for this. There would have to be a written agreement. Just an idea. Trying to come up with a solution that puts this foster dog first without continuing to sink me deeper in debt and derail all the plans I had for when my kids finally leave home. Sorry for the tangent. I really feel for your loss. I’ve been through it.

When they brought me home by a medical transport on a stretcher, my 2 dogs didn't even noticed I was home. I waited until I got in bed to say their names and when I did the excitement and joy that filled them was crazy... man did this movie bring some memories back for me. Thankfully I was only 19 and lived with my parents at the time, so my dogs didn't have to experience anything like this movie. My heart breaks for all those pets who lost their humans during this pandemic. 💔

He looked almost identical to the one in the video. The video made me cry as I remember the beautiful years spent with him, who was also my best friend. I always tried to imagine what would Sunny tell me if he had a voice. Needless to say, his face expressions helped me understand him so well. Whenever I had to leave the house, I used to tell him: wait for me, I am coming soon, I promise and I love you. He always waited for me so patiently, like the dog in the video. I was his human. I wonder if that was Jane’s friend or someone who ran a business sort of taking care of pets, keeping them caged all the time but at least fed. He sure didn't seem to like the animals. It was a nice touch at the end when he so smiled when he saw Ollie’s Jane’s joy and love at being reunited again.

  • Beautiful story from the loyal sweet dog’s pov. But it was more hurtful than necessary bc we didn’t get to see the man walk the dog any of the days. And the crate was too small for him to be in all day. I know I’m being nitpicky but we as viewers are supposed to know he’s lonely, sad, worried, confused and honestly bored at this guy’s house without his human mom. The song choice at the end made it even more sad though a happy moment. Thank you for sharing! ❤

    @BeBeBraveSpirit@BeBeBraveSpirit2 ай бұрын
    • I felt very upset about those crates and the co fine meant of all those three pets. I think it would have packed the same punch if they had been at least walked twice a day … and if they had been less confined. I would have been so upset if my friend had “helped” me with my dog by putting him in a tiny crate in a darkened room. I thought that part went overboard and I sure hope it’s not normal treatment for pets in other parts of the world. I’m in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. I do want to commend the filmmaker on how beautifully the film is shot and edited. The story is very sweet as well, and I like that it was voiced from the dog’s perspective. Yes it was very moving, but I found it to be equally disturbing, and in the end I wanted the girl to know her dog had been abused.

  • I have a sweet dog who was abused in his former life, and is slowly healing. He follows me everywhere - I have to be careful when I turn around in the kitchen, not to trip over him. Once I had to go out of town for a week, to take care of my dad. Bueno saw me get in the car with my suitcase and knew this was not just a grocery trip. He followed me down the road until the rest of my family called him back. When I got home at the end of the week, my house guest told me that Bueno had spent the whole week, day and night, lying beside my bed, where he sleeps when I'm home. ❤

  • Excellent! This short did everything a Oscar winner does. This short made me Laugh, Cry, be Curious & joyful . In my extended family the joke is when newlyweds bring a dog home that he is a starter baby. Meaning if they can raise a happy dog then they can raise a happy little human. Feed them, give them water, deal with poo both letting them go & cleaning it up,take them for health check ups, take them for exercise, have dedicated play time & most of all, give them love, kindness, compassion, patience, and temperance. Now they will be ready to welcome a baby into their home. This short is a reminder that our dogs have so much to offer us. They can draw out the same goodness out of us humans. Bravo Sadie Gomez and cast. Let me know if you’re going to be in the Austin Texas area (SXSW?) so I can shake your hand. If you decide to make your next film project within the central Texas area I would even love to volunteer/ support you in any way I can. This short should run on a loop in every pet shelter & veterinarians office and elementary school. Y’all should have received every award possible. ❤ & continued success.

  • You made me cry Sadiel. Not only the dog is the best friend of all humans.. But also we humans are the best friend of dogs. There is so much in common with our pets, that we cannot live without them. When our ancestors left the nature and wild life, to live in cities, we have lost the friendship and vicinities of so many animals especially when they can became tamed animals and pets. We see in Ukraine, Israel, and all kind of catastrophic situation, when people are forced to leave, they always take their pets with them. They are our pets and we are their pets. I have lost my coonhound dog a year ago.. But while dreaming I am always in search of him. That is the way God wanted to follow. Thanks from Hector.
