I was super lucky to end up in Yellowstone National Park just after the Yellowstone River opened for the season so took the opportunity to fish for some native Cutthroat Trout!

  • I will fish out west sometime. I live and fish in Maine. Was nice to watch your fish handling / respect and care for the fish.

  • Glad you were able to experience catching some cutties! They are a super cool native fish to the west USA and it's neat to see you getting to experience that. Thanks for sharing. Also, whoever said cutthroat don't fight hard was very mistaken. When they are healthy like that, and the water is cold they offer great fun at the end of a line.

  • So good Tom, When I fished Yellowstone park it was during salmon fly and there were massive bugs everywhere. It was such a good experience. Must do again. We missed staying at the old faithful inn. It looks amazing.

  • Great video Tom. I loved fishing the Yellowstone back in 2018 when I did 2 full days in a drift boat. I’m still in awe of the sizes of the US rivers c/w ours. What flies did you use?

  • The Yellowstone was running very high in July, so I didn't bother to go there to fish. Opening day was moved up from the normal ( July 15 ) to July 1, I think. Were you there at the beginning of July? I'm going back to the area in a couple of days and was thinking of fishing that river and possibly Yellowstone Lake. In any case, congrats on your successful fishing day.
