Snyder actually made watchmen a great film and that was a movie that was written to be unfilmable and Whedon couldn't even create a good villain for either of the Avengers film. Loki? Beaten like nothing. Ultron? Army of robots that were directed in a way that hid the fact that hawkeye and black widow were overrun but still managed to survive because of camera angles and plot armor not to mention the fact that he had all that vibranium and instead of creating another body for himself and building a nuclear arsenal (since he does have knowledge of everything science because of the internet) he decided to just have an entire city fall to the earth when there dozens of other ways to destroy humanity and thus, he was a terrible villain. Snyder on the other hand, actually made a Superman film that didnt suck, made an actually terrifying Lex Luthor who was smart and didn't have a money or business scheme, and a batman that was brutal and had character and a film that ahead of its time.
@Cypher yes, ive read superman comics and this was an earth one superman inspired story and yes ive seen the old superman films and they were good for their time i suppose but they werent great and superman did save people throughout the entire film. Oil rig. School bus. Lois discovered his identity because she actually did some journalism. Also, not sure if you paid attention to Man of Steel but Clark barely learned how to fly and this was his first time actually fighting a being who was his equal and its not like Clark couldve easily led Zod away, if he tried Zod wouldve just continued going to the city and killed people. Hell, Clark actually takes Zod to Space but the fight actually leads back to the city lol so you cant say that he didnt try to lead Zod away when he actually did and okay comics are different than film, you can get away with a lot more in the comics than in film. Learn that.

Fact: Superman can kill every single person in this entire scene by himself. And the Justice League is not required. That's basically what I got out of this movie.
Snyder confirmed the one guy who came to Earth centuries ago was not Steppenwolf, it was Darkseid. Young Darkseid (Uxas) was the one whom Earth needed to gather humans, gods, lanterns, atlanteans and amazons to get rid of. WarnerBros really fucked up.

I don't know too much about the comics, but they could have done so much better than this guy. Ressurecting Zod somehow, being his body is incapable of decay,hell-bent on revenge. United with Lex Luthor and there you go, class-A villains. Superman needed a challenge, Steppendorf was too weak. Darkseid sounds better and I don't even know who that is. They teased us with his Omega symbol in BvS I believe. I loved Zod in MoS,he owned!

I can. You can't have the big bad get his ass kicked in two minutes in the first movie. Thanos started Infinity War off by easily crushing Hulk and Thor. Imagine if they beat him without breaking a sweat.
Well he didn't have his op abilities he was known for during the war. He also faced against literal beasts like Zeus and Ares who is a monster which gets massive power boosts depending on the scale of the war

You would think that he had his omega powers already. In fact, if I'm remembering my lore correctly, Darkseid always had his omega beam powers. Hell, his dad had them and he inherited that same power. He fought the original Doomsday to a standstill with them and this was eons before Doomsday showed up on Earth and wiped the floor with the justice leagye (note, this was in the original comics). So by my understanding, it's kind of contrived that Darkseid doesn't have the same powers that allowed him and his family to rule Apocalypse for thousands of years with him at the very battle that would've allowed him to gain control over all life in the cosmos.

Yah. Keeping them is like inviting Darkseid to attack them. It's not something they would want. Earth survived here because Darkseid only sent Steppenwolf. They thought Supes is dead. They didnt know he got revived so Stepp got served by some Super beatdown.
Somebody else should have kept it. Humans were not equipped to guard something this powerful against a being that could fight gods.

The reason they did not give a mother box to the Green Lanterns is that there was only one Green Lantern involved in that battle. The one who guards the sector of space that Earth is in. And Steppenwolf killed them. There was not a Green Lantern left to give it to.
This scene was supposed to be longer and more badass... Watching the final fight in Endgame made me come back to this because we could have had something equivalent to that in here (except without the main heroes of course)
It still wouldn't have been the same, I know that there was supposed to be even a Darkseid vs Ares fight, but that doesn't compare to seeing characters we know and love for a decade fighting against the most developed villain of the past years

Sky High Yeah, in Lord of the Rings. There’s nothing special about the concept of different people joining forces to fight a more dangerous enemy than them. DC failed its fans and Marvel did not.
But it wont feel epic. Endgame battle was epic because finally all the heroes from previous movies and the culmination of 10 years of build up is rewarded. This justice league battle is cool. But doesnt give me any emotion because i dont relate to any of the characters or familiar with them. Only from the comics books.

One thing I loved about Synder cut is when the Parademons carried Darkseid to their ship Darkseid tried to get up but then he realized he’s beaten as he lost too much blood to continue to fight. Like he learned to never underestimate anyone.

JourneyTotheTruthandTotalRandomness It's actually part of why I like this movie, Superman takes the time to save civilians, has fun, smiles, races the Flash and even encourages him, and then we see him with way better control over his powers than in Man of Steel and BvS.

sasook I actually felt kind of different. Steppenwolf constantly beat up Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Cyborg (pretty sure both Flash and Batman don't actually fight him), and it was only a combined effort by the four of them (Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Superman) to finally beat him. Also, in the flashback, Steppenwolf was basically soloed by Zeus and Ares at the end since the three armies were focused on stopping the Parademon invasion... so I didn't feel as let down when it took 4 of the 6 strongest Leaguers to temporarily incapacitate him at the end. Remember, Steppenwolf didn't get killed by or surrender to the League, he only got disarmed...

What pisses me off is Zeus an Aries hardly scratched Steppenwolf. But in the directors cut they destroyed Darkseid nearly killed him, beat him to an inch of his life.
I think that Zeus and Aries hardly scratching Steppenwolf benefits Darkseid's character. You don't go wiping the floor with your story/universe's biggest, baddest and most powerful super villain in a flashback. That just completely smears your main bad guy's reputation and screen presence. Had marvel done that to Thanos at the beginning of Infinity War, the guy would've been a joke right off the bat, but the fact he never lost a battle even when outnumbered and even without all the stones showed how intimidating and powerful Thanos was before reaching his peak. Heck, he even kicked the Hulk's ass without use of the stones, as well as Captain America, Iron Man and Thor, which was perfect for setting up how powerful Thanos was. The fact the old Gods couldn't scratch Steppenwolf shows, by implication, that the guy who is in charge of him must be an even more powerful entity, which is honestly terrifying. Personally, I think it would be horrible to show Darkseid getting his ass kicked by a bunch of medieval armies on horseback and a villain that Wonderwoman ended up killing later in WWI. Thank God they didn't do that, right. -_-

In this scene it's a younger less powerful darkseid who's not even king, and it took 3 gods ,king atlan who wields one of the most powerful weapons in the Dc world and a green lantern to just injure him. And he doesn't have the omega power yet. Justice league was trying to accomplish the same thing in a different way, when earth's defenders unite they can defeat anyone thats why "the age of heros" needs to come again. What i would agree with you on is thay they made him LOOK weak, we needed to see him maybe fight the gods directly and ultimately lose in a less humiliating manner (without passing out) maybe just getting injured and he decides to retreat. However the idea of him losing is not bad, the execution should've been slightly better.

After watching Aquaman the atlantean army alone would’ve easily defeated Steppenwolfs armies like nothing.
This makes no sense, Steppenwolf IS a God, yes, but do ANY of you know a damn thing about Superman? He is literally as strong as DC needs him to be, if he needs to win, he WILL win, if he needs to lose, there will always be an explanation as to why he did. But in this case, Steppenwolf was up against one of, if not THE, most powerful characters in the DC universe at max power, Superman is meant to be overpowered and you shouldn't complain because he is.

With DC Comics having a lore that’s incredibly rich and full of potential like Middle-Earth does in its own right, the Steppenwolf exposition should’ve been left in the opening and heavily expanded upon before we cut to the scene with Batman in Gotham. It would’ve been epic and better editing. Hell I wouldn’t have a problem with a 3 hour Justice League film.

Difference between DCEU and MCU: DC made an EPIC battle scene a 2 minutes flash back fragments. Marvel made it a 20 minutes long sequence as the end battle of their 11- year saga. They both had great ideas, it’s just when one studio chose to construct it, the other simply inserted it.

If DC had started their own DCCU they could’ve been just as successful, but instead they want to cram everything stupidly within a few years. Then again DC would’ve never gotten the chance because MCU started first in 2008 so either way MCU would have a lead but still.

I remember rumors saying Steppenwolf was supposed to be a super old and honourable warrior tired of fighting and serving Darkseid but this was his last chance to succeed. That would have been a much cooler take on the generic villain we actually got....
Shame they did not do a Steppenwolf pic first.
The subtext of Steppenwolf in this film is an old warrior who just wants to be welcomed home. To do so he must undo his failure. This is fine though it was not very prominent.

In the comics, Steppenwolf is one of the more interesting minor New Gods characters, and it disappointed me that they changed him so much. He properly should have a confident, cavalier style steeped in honor about him, though not quite as pronounced as it is in Kanto. He's the kind of villain you don't actually hate but rather respect. I think a more faithful version would have translated well to the screen and would have been both fresh and interesting.
