  • I live in an area where they come to spend their summers. They are protected here, so no hunting whatsoever. They are beautiful birds, but in mating season they are loud enough that you might start to think otherwise. Have you ever seen them kill a snake? They pick them up by the tail and crack them like a whip, which doesn't end well for the snake.

    @cannabinerd5758@cannabinerd57582 жыл бұрын
    • No, I haven’t never seen them eat a snake before but that is just too interesting!! • Very interesting Gracie, an amazing recovery in population , it must have been accompanied by changes in hunting regulations (?) as I imagine with corn and wheat in their diet they wouldn’t necessarily be so popular with farmers .

    @Chris-NZ@Chris-NZ2 жыл бұрын
    • Thank you Chris!! It certainly is a amazing recovery and I’m so proud to see them thriving!! There is hunting regulations. They can only be hunted at certain periods. I am sure the farmers aren’t to pleased either! Lol!! The good news is our wildlife officers make sure that the cranes have plenty too eat without interfering too much with the farmers crops! • Thanks for sharing these facts about the Sandhill Cranes. I saw three of them for the first time walking on a grassy side of the road in Bay Lake, Florida. We were on our way to Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World at that time. They’re quite amazing to see up close, even though our sighting of them was fleeting. I found the fact about Sandhill Crane hatchlings to leave the nest 8 hours after hatching to be so cool! I guess that’s why some people call them colts. I hope you had a Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁

    • @@photographyadventuresbygraciel It seems like a lot of Florida’s native and wild birds love Disney World. Lots of White Ibises inside the parks when I went this time. 😁 Anyway, my family and I had a nice Christmas. Although, I am a bit under the weather. I don’t think it’s COVID, but just a slight cold. 🤧 On the bright side, I also think it’s so sweet that Sandhill Cranes made for life. Thanks again, and Happy New Year! 🥳🎉

  • Greeting Gracie! As always fabulous images and wonderful slideshow. When these guys fly down to Florida, the feast on rodents, baby birds, snakes and frogs. They seem to really enjoy Anole lizards. They actually entered my parents sunroom grab a few while I was setting having my morning coffee! I chased them off. We closed off the entrance ways to protect the Anole in my mom's greenhouse, because we need them to control the insect inside. I was surprised at their boldness there. They weren't at all concerned about us humans. When unloading groceries, they would try snooping through the bags. I suspect they we associating us with food. Perhaps people in the areas feed them. Anyway, great stuff Gracie, I always look forward to your videos. They're an interesting species and quite handsome. Happy New Year my friend.... 🥳

I have a few parrots and they just look at each other through the window. The crane makes a gurgle sound sometimes, not sure what that means. It’s such a beautiful creature, I feel so Blessed when it visits.

  • So I live in Connecticut and have been hunting and fishing in the woods my whole life. I’m filming a bald Eagle family and I look across the lake and i see some strange bird. It’s just out of my scopes range so it’s a little pixelated but it’s not a heron. And I’ve never seen a crane here at all. I might post a clip to see what you crane aficionados think. Anyone from up New England way ever see or hear of cranes this way?

    • Hey Judd!! Oh wow! That’s awesome to be filming a Bald Eagle family! They are such incredible birds! I truly does sound like a crane! Maybe one got caught off course?! Here in the South East I hear sometimes of Snowy Owls being spotted and they are supposed to stay up North during migration but some get caught off course. However I haven’t been lucky enough to have one visit my area. Maybe one day though! I would love to see the video though! That’s awesome!!

  • Amazing fact, they're omnivores, not vegan. They eat whatever they can find.
