This video will show you a Guided Tour of the Audi S4 (B6 B7) BBK 4.2 V8 Engine (removed) from an Audi S4 2003-2008.
This could be a very useful reference for people intending to remove their engine or gearbox as it shows positions of keys parts from angles you could never see with the engine in situ.

Purchased the car 6 months ago with only 60k miles and so far I've definitely enjoyed the car. I'm going on another 2k mile round trip from Northern Idaho to Sacramento in a few days and can't wait! The last trip there was a blast on the curvy mountain roads.

  • Really wish you would have gone into more depth on the PCV system since it gives a lot of grief. The down hose attach to the engine anywhere or is it just a J hose up to the T for the valve covers? I’m going to delete mine and wasn’t sure if it connects to the engine anywhere besides just the covers and the intake. But I see that other set of clamps down at the bend.

I've tried and tried and tried to find the answer and can't seem to get one.... that black pipe that is right next to the cam sensor, in the middle of that pipe the heater core hose attaches to it at that point. Mine broke so trying to figure out a fix. Is there a piece that pulls off where the heater core attaches. Mine broke off where the hose attaches. Any info on that particular spot would be super super appreciated!!

  • Hi, watched quite a few of your videos great content, find them a great help learning about this engine having just purchased a 2004 S4 avant myself. It’s a great car, however I have noticed a very slight tremor when at idle. It’s not a misfire, just a very slight tremor. No effect on the drivability or performance whatsoever, my question is, is this just a characteristic of this engine maybe?

    @cainoxcx6@cainoxcx64 жыл бұрын
    • Actually this is very common on these. Even the best-driving ones often suffer this. Even brand new coil packs and spark plugs don't tend to fix this (we've tried!) As long as it's minor and not a misfire etc don't panic too much. Trying to remedy this if very minor is likely not practical. --- To help support us (for both you and others reading this) there are a few things you can do: 1) Donations both needed and welcome! @venn105@venn1053 жыл бұрын
    • The B6 and B7 S4 are well-known to use oil. So if it was already a touch low when you got it, it could have just triggered now with hard driving. The fact that it is not leaking is good, very good! Top it up to the correct level and keep an eye on it over the next few weeks. You'll see a lot of S4's for sale have a little Castrol pouch in the side pocket with a 1 litre bottle in for top ups. • Hey i recently bought a 2007 audi s4 b7 with good service history and it has about 95k miles on it but i drove it for about 30miles before i got a oil pressure warning light (red), the car didn't sound any different before or after but i turned it off (did not drive it after the warning) and i booked an appointment at a workshop to have it looked up, they think its a sensor issue and ordered the sensor for it. they didn't want to messure the oil pressure before changeing the sensor which i find weird but the dealership which i got it from is paying for the work anyway so if its something else wrong with it they will fix it. Now to my question, what do you think it could be? is the sensor problem a known issue?

    @RandomclipsCrew@RandomclipsCrew3 жыл бұрын
    • It depends on the check engine light DTC's (codes) Usually the oil sending unit sensor in any vehicle is a cheap enough part to replace after it shows oil pressure malfunction. The sensor is needed for computer to properly output oil level condition for crank position to assist starting the motor as fail safe check but also keeps ecm computer happy for firing timing correlation along with crank position ckp feedback; in the long run. So the sensor is #1 to be replaced. But they will reset the code and tell you to come back if it happens again. I would simply check car oil pressure with my scanner after a new sensor was tossed in for 20 bucks. Is the car ever hesitant at starting up when its already hot? If so, replace CKP also. Is the car shifting weird? Or speedometer acts strange? Vehicle Speed Sensor, VSS. These are maintenance parts at 100k if we like it or not.. ; ( Very common on these 'hot', tight engines to go through sensors and oil. Oil being changed early is advised especially if you have a motor with timing chains.

    • Yes, that makes perfect sense. From a physical standpoint is should be fairly straight-forward. I was thinking more matching it to a gearbox, and ECU coding etc. Could be complex, but absolutely doable. There have been some amazing things done with these cars, and so this absolutely can be done. • Hi. I have a question Can I use this engine in a 1996 s6 avant?

    @luiscarloslacayo9092@luiscarloslacayo90922 жыл бұрын
    • Well, technically you can use just about any engine in anything, with varying levels of complexity (and cost!) Is this a straight replacement for your S6 1996, unfortunately not. It would likely take a LOT of work to get this set up in the S6. Doable, but may be a huge job. --- To help support us (for both you and others reading this) there are a few things you can do: 1) Donations both needed and welcome! • Hey there! Unfortunately we are not covering the A8 platform just yet. We are hoping to be able to expand Total Technik to cover additional models, but it's not a cheap undertaking and our expansion will be solely reliant on the support we receive from our viewers. • Dev JB you were right it was on the left side thank you! I replaced it but it wasn’t it it sounds like it doesn’t have compression, it cranks but to me it sounds like you took all the plugs out and tried cranking it over, it has spark and the front fan turns sometimes when cranking it, but it doesn’t sound like the whole engine is turning over, any info on what this could be? Clogged PCV valve or bent valves?

    • @@jibb16 Have you tried the coolant temperature sensor (green color) It's about 10 to 15 dollars at popular part stores. That should be replaced at 100k miles but they do have resistance issue on such hot engines and fail early. The coolant temperature sensor talks with computer to control fans and engine temperature range triggers for fuel trims. Even if your temp gauge is acting normal, The coolant temp sensor could be faulty and cause the Audi to not start. Have you ran diagnostics on it with VAG (vcds) or a good OBDII scanner for any codes? The coolant temp sensor for your Audi may not be green color but instead gray or another. You will want to confirm the color by looking up the part for your model. Which year, model and engine do you have?

      @DevJB@DevJB2 жыл бұрын
    • @@jibb16 Also, the condition you mention kind of sounds like it's not getting fuel. The fuel pump test could be performed if has not been ruled out yet. Do you insert the key and turn it forward to run position for 5 seconds (priming) before you crank it? If you are able to, you should try to (prime) it like this 4 times before cranking as a test for fuel pump build up pressure to fuel rail on 4 prime attempts. So you just put key in, to run position and the lights on dash will twinkle and some go away, then you turn key off and remove key, count to 2 and re-insert key, turn to run position for this priming event for a few seconds then turn off the key and remove it, repeat 1 or 2 more times before lastly turning the key to prime it, wait the 3 seconds and then crank it, does it seem to want to start then? Also if you put your foot into the gas pedal to the floor during cranking and let off the gas right away if it sounds like its starting; pushing the gas pedal past 3\4th will disable computer 'over injection' requests and could be the source of the problem at the fuel pressure regulator or fuel filter in the long run which causes this bizarre condition.
