  • the plastic chain tensioner shoes can be purchased on a few sites, and just those changed. The plastic becomes brittle with age and heat cycles - then they crack/shatter and then you can have 40 valves bending on the pistons. can remove tensioner and pop off old shoes and pry on new shoes. Need a stubby torex 30 bit to crack loose the cam caps. the HARDER thing is re-sealing the valve covers to prevent leaks - overdo it with RTV on ends and bottom edges of cover.. also RTV the bolt rubber bushings -- this leak goes on to the exhaust manifold so you get to breathe the smoke- not good for your lungs.

    • Thanks Emerson! That makes me feel better. These cars tend to scare people even though resale is low. I do my own repairs so unless a part is outrageously expensive, it is worth it. Even if it is, I am still not paying for labor. I have an 08 S5 and it is so fun to drive. I love the A8's. Pure Luxury.

  • The only lingering problem I’ve had on my A8 4.2 (FSI) is a stutter/shaking on cold starts, when I put the car in reverse or drive it shudders. Only on a cold start. I’ve been trying to track down the issue for months replacing little things (sparkies, injector, cleaning throttle body, vacuum leak test), but to no avail. Luckily it goes away as soon as the car starts driving and disappears after that. Really weird. Aside from that, great car. It’s ungodly comfortable, great power and just an incredible exterior and interior aesthetic. 160k+ miles.

  • I bought a C6 A6 to avoid getting the FSI engine. In the end it was dripping oil from somewhere, but I had gotten my money's worth out of the car, so I traded it in. I paid $14k and drove it from 2011 to 2018. I only changed the alternator, brakes and tires.

  • So i bought an a6 4f allroad this march with skipped timing chain. Audi wanted 7400€ for the chain service plus further parts that need to be changed. It was leaking oil from literally everywhere, especially the lower camshaft gasket and from the Oil cooler. Since i have rebuilt the it, its a really nice engine.

  • I peaked down to see if I could access the oil cooler and I did see the cat and the monkey with the umbrella. They were in the way, and even though I asked nicely, they said, "Get lost, Hooman". I guess my temp gauge is where it is supposed to be, so I should leave the cat and monkey alone. I think there was a train down there, too. Ugh. I'll be OK. It is a 2008 S5 with only 35K (miles) on the odometer. Thanks for the info! Very well done video. I enjoyed it and learned from it. ;-)

    • You'll be more than okay that's a nice car. Also the last time I was at the Audi dealer the only thing with a V8 they had at the place was a Q8 the A8 on the floor was only the 3.0T. The sales man even admitted that Audi doesn't know yet if the 4.0T will end up being as reliable as the 4.2 was.

    • @@user-pm3dx4te4f I sold the car in April with about 143k miles. The most expensive issue I had was the upper coolant hose cracking. You will also have to do valve cover gaskets at some point. • I have a 2012 Audi A8 4.2 fsi I’ve been having trouble with the engine late start and misfire with black smoke at the exhaust some times runs fine when and starts within one crank but the real problem starts when it’s at normal temperature it starts to misfire and the engine wouldn’t start without peddle. The fuel regulators and the injectors are brand new still doesn’t solve the issue. If the vacume pipe is removed and blocked which airs the oil then there’s no misfire and no problem at all. It would be of great help if u can get me out of this. And on the The reader says engine rich and no other error codes

  • I have a 2007 audi a8l with a 4.2 v8 fsi and I’m getting a code p2015 saying bank one sensor is probably the issue any ideas?

    @zlatanzifovskijr4576@zlatanzifovskijr45762 жыл бұрын
    • -on the intake manifold you got 2 sensors/potentiometers on both sides of the manifold, one should be for bank 1 the other for bank 2 now, there is a technical service bulletin for the seals of these sensors - the rubber seals on them can deform - making the linkage get stuck a bit - and this can cause your faultcode ( here is a link for this issue static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2012/SB-10063831-7690.pdf ) occasionally the sensors themselves can be faulty too - if the sensor is faulty then you also get this fault code -next there are two electronic actuators an upper and a lower, in your case the upper actuator should be fine, but the lower actuator can be already faulty/worn - and this can also cause the fault code -lastly, inside the manifold the plastic flaps can be seized a bit or too loose - in this case you can also can get this fault code so long story short: first check the seals on the sensors/potentiometers if the seals are fine and the metallic shaft is moving freely then the issue can be most probably with the sensor, with the lower actuator or with the flaps inside the intake manifold if you don't want to spend much money on the various parts then there is a possibility to remove the flaps inside the manifold and to deactivate the actuators - there should be enough info on the internet about this

    • different car review ok thank you for responding I did order one sensor from parts geek and I will replace it once it comes in since one of them is a bit sticky and the motor is kind of loose but not too loose so and if you push it down and start the engine it moves a little and that’s it I just have to find oil seals for the sensor.

      @zlatanzifovskijr4576@zlatanzifovskijr45762 жыл бұрын
    • yes you can drive it, but I would be thinking about deleting those flaps in the intake manifold / or at least inspect them, since these plastic flaps can also fall apart and in the worst case - they can get sucked into the valves - not a very common issue but it can happen

    • We just picked one up for very cheap. Has 117k miles on it and an engine out service is in the works. The idea is change the timing chain and every gasket, the tensioners and then the car is good for 200k miles. I have seen many examples of these engines lasting a long time, usually a catastrophic failure occurs when the owner avoids an engine out repair. The car is worth such repairs as long as it's replacement cost is less than the repair. It's an $74,000 luxury car so a $2200 repair bill to essentially replace everything that can break is worth it. Also, engines and transmissions are actually cheap for this so if you do ruin one. The body and frame are aluminum so those will last forever. Electronics can get expensive I'd a computer problem happens
