There may come a day where you come across a stray cat. It's important to know what to do if you find a stray cat. Just because a cat is outdoors, doesn't mean it doesn't have an owner. You may end up thinking you a rescuing a stray cat, but it may end up being a stray cat with an owner instead (not actually a stray). There are several steps you need to take to make sure a stray cat doesn't have an owner before you can decide to keep it. In this video, we talk about whether you can keep a stray cat and what to do if you find one.

All 4 cats my family and I have had since I was a little kid in the early 1960s have been strays we adopted. The first was a kitten my older sis found wandering alone in the downtown area of the town we grew up in. The last 3 were all strays that found their way to my house at various times years later after moving to another state. My last one stayed as an outdoor cat the entire time I had her, so if she belonged to someone else she could have left at any time and gone back to them, but she didn't. Each one of them was loved and taken care of as a member of the family.
I've been feeding and loving on a stray cat for about 4 months now. It was very sick with eye infections and respiratory issues. I took it to the Vet and had it nuetered, shots and cared for with antibiotics etc. He does not have a micro chip. He's all better now and I brought him back to where I live but I can't adopt him because I'm allergic. I named him Pretty Boy. I wish I could find him a good home.
Well, my dad lured a female cat in with food. It was in our car porch and my dad wanted to pet it. After that, the cat came to visit every single day. Whenever the door is open, it excitedly came in and wandered around our house as if it's her own home. Our neighbour has cats too. At first we thought it was theirs, turns out it's just a stray. The cat has nice fur and her size is average. We never fed the cat after the first time, the neighbour is the one feeding her 😅 I kinda have a phobia of animals especially furry ones. Getting touched by them freaks me out. My family are barely at home during the day. We can't afford to raise a pet sadly. At least she has a nice place to take shelter and sleep in the car porch 🤣
I live in a decently sized subdivision, so when a cat just showed up in the yard and was hiding out under our shed, I assumed it lived near by. After a few days of her hanging around and not leaving and being super friendly, we tried asking around the neighborhood to see if anyone knew her or owned her and no one claimed her. We posted online as well with no response. It was during the summer with many heat storms so after a week we let her inside (she'd tried coming in before and we stopped her but had been feeding her and giving her water). I had never grown up with cats so it definitely was a learning experience. She was just so mild mannered and sweet and loved attention, affection, pets and all the other good stuff. We then took her to the vet to look for a microchip or something, but there was none, she had been spayed though. I believe someone either couldn't take care of her anymore, or maybe she belonged to an elderly person and their family couldn't take her so they just found a neighborhood that had cats in it and dropped it off (which is awful and people should never do this - take them to a shelter please - do not ever just drop them off somewhere and expect them to fend for themselves - that's cruel! and you're evil for that.), but I will never really know. She seemed to be in good health and was assumed to be around six years of age so I kept her. I had her for not quite four years and she was amazing and absolutely perfect. The longer I had her the more close we got and the more outspoken and demanding she got, and I loved every second of it. Then all of a sudden she started loosing weight, walking slower than normal, finding it hard to lay down and get comfortable and not wanting to eat. After getting her to the vet, I was told she had late stage kidney failure and there really was not anything that could be done for her. She was very clearly feeling bad, in some kind of discomfort and just not herself. It was one of the worst days of my life and I was so angry that I didn't get more time with her. At THIS appointment they told me that they actually thought she was closer to 13 and not around 10, but still, I just wish I had more time. Loosing a pet that you take in as part of your family, a furbaby that you feel like is your child, is one of the hardest things in the world and nearly impossible to get over. You just get through it, day by day, until finally you can look at pictures and videos of them and be able to smile. To remember only the good and happy memories that you shared with them. To be happy that they are in no pain, and that you were blessed with how much ever time you had with them. Because the love you get from animals is so pure, so special - you wonder, how we can even deserve to have these little angels in our life at all. My thoughts and prayers go out to any and everyone who has lost a best friend animal, a special one of a kind little furbaby. I know how you feel and my heart goes out to you. It does get better, but as they say, it does take time.
With my family we adopted 3 stray cats. One in mid July 1979, one cat came around late September 1981 and was adopted in mid November 1981, and 3rd cat came around in June 1993 and was adopted in mid November 1993. All 3 found a good home. Our home was perfect for them. The 2nd cat was my best friend. He trusted me the most. He was the sweetest cat.
Found one recently and we’re taking care of it. We scanned for the microchip and it didn’t seem to have an owner. Thanks for all the tips!

Before you adopt a stray cat. Please make sure they are not someone's pet. As a kid i had a cat and a neighbor took her in thinking she's a stray fast forward a couple years the house behind us catches fire and she showed up the next day fat as can be meowing at our door like she hasn't been catnapped all those years. I have no hard feelings for the guy I think he pasted away in the fire since he never came back and i remember things being quite crazy plus he was genuinely trying to help out our cat witch looking back on i appreciate but like he really should have reached out to make sure she wasn't a stray first she was extremely friendly and well fed and clean. recently, i found 2 black stray cats come to my backyard door and front door a couple of times. one cat was fluffy, very friendly, always coming over and always asking for food. occasionally, we feed it. the other, however, looked skinny and was always silent and never really shows up. i named the fluffy cat Niko. i truly don’t know if the fluffy black cat is a male or female, i just usually refer to it as she/her. Niko is a really playful cat. we usually like to call her Kiki or Gerard (named after my chemical romance lol). Niko looks like she’s healthy, but she’s always seen licking herself, near her abdomen or her paws. my parents and I were thinking about taking her to a vet. just today, my mother got Niko a flea collar to eliminate any ticks or bugs that are on her. Niko however always tried backing away from my mother each time she tried putting the collar on her. so we ended up having throwing it away. recently, we got her some toys and a bed. she doesn’t use the bed that much, she’s really only used to some outdoor chairs we have in the backyard. she likes to lay down on and it makes her fall asleep. i also like feeding her from time to time. i always wanted to keep her but since my aunt is allergic to cats, we weren’t able to. we haven’t thought about calling a shelter or anything yet. Niko also doesn’t have a collar, she looked like she has been playing around in the grass a lot cause she always comes with usually anything stuck in her fur. she’s also a very playful cat, she likes drinking water from the sprinklers, and likes catching bugs whenever she sees one. she is a very wonderful cat. please reply if you have tips or suggestions so I can let my parents know! - poncho

Today i found a stray cat in my garage and it ran under the house where the plumers go to fix the pipes i left a can of tuna and a bowl of water. the cat was eather feral or scared the seconed i opend the grage dor it ran my mom thaught it was a recoon becuase it was a stripey gray and black colour, im hoping it had kittens and that we can save the cat or cat and kittens or cats. A month ago I found a start too it keeper on going inside my house and I had to make a loud noise to make the cat away, but my mom just says that she's gonna eat the rats, but one day the cat got locked inside so I fed the cat and now it's my pet lol, but bathing the cat is still a challenge
Today I saw a big kitty on my deck, i could tell he/ she was skinny (BIG cat but very skinny) So I instantly jumped up and got treats for them. I called for my mom so I could figure out what to do, I asked if I could attempt to catch it She said yes so I put out treats by the door Also food+water bowls, the cat carrier and a blanket We were on my bed eating pizza when I saw the cat peering in my door a few hours later (they were eating the treats I left by the door) so I went out the front door and tried to sneak around back but by the time I got there they were already on the ground, I called to them and they didn't run, so I slowly approached gave some pets and treats I tried to pick them up but I startled them so he kinda just walked out of my arms,n but he came back for more pets and the 2nd time I got him. Brought him in Now they're in my Landry room and we're waiting to go to the vets 😇 posted on a few FB and missing pet forms no luck yet They are very friendly (Can't tell if it's female or male... very fluffy cat and we don't want to stress them out) I kinda really want to keep them xD

Usually that's be a good thing but she seems like a psycho, We posted flyers and she got in contact with my mom saying it was her cat (she was being normal at first) simply explaining he's an outdoor cat and there's a few houses around that care for him And my mom went "oh great, so he's healthy and vetted?" He had some lumps and was shaved weirdly so we were genuinely asking And the lady went "EXCUSE ME?" Not yelling but stern, and my mom repeated herself because it was a genuine question, we hate when cats are mistreated and the lady said it's none of her business and to let the cat go (we already let him go at that point) Just wish it ended nicer, cuthen we couldve had a neighborhood cat, my mom wasn't being rude at all the lady is just nuts so we just left it at that xD
I have just found a stray cat in my backyard who is friends with cat he the stray is ginger not neutered and when I fed him it seemed as if he’d never had cat food before! I have named him Bob and after this video I think I’m going to try and keep him and look after him.
Saw a cat outside my apartment today, they came right up onto the porch and rubbed against the door, it was past midnight, so I couldn't see well, but with a little light I discovered it was a black cat. It's fur looked messy and it had no collar. I would've let it in, but my family was asleep, so I went to my room to grab a blanket, intent on staying in the living room so the cat would have someone till morning. But when I came back, the cat was gone. This happened less than an hour ago and I couldn't sleep until I researched a bit more, I hope to find the cat again, they just wanted attention and seemed so cuddly.

I found a stray kitten when I was on holiday with my family on a Greek island called Kos. It jumped onto my lap and started playing with my earphone wires. When my Mum took them away so he wouldn't break them I thought he'd climb onto Mum's lap instead, but he just laid down in my lap and I stroked him, he was purring and I felt him licking my hand at one point.
I did not find it. It found me and it hired me as a cat butler. Now I am its slave till the end of its life.

Today me and my mom went walking to exersize and we found not 3 but 5 cat today! They were around a house that is not abandoned and they live around there. 2 of them let us pet them and they were so sweet. We want to keep the 1 kitten but we dont know if she has an owner. We looked to see the gender of both cats we could pick up they were both girls and we named them Shadow and Jasper. Shadow is the black and dark brown kitten we want to take home and we are currently researching on websites and facebook to see if we have found the owners. PS: Great video it really helped us out!
There’s a cat in my neighborhood that had a rather tight belt collar. I’m guessing it’s a he because I have a female cat (although spayed) and he always visits and stares at her through the window. He runs from people, and he heads over into the other yards same direction. My cat hasn’t been at that house in over a year, when I brought her back, as I was leaving Mr 😂 came around looking for her. Anyway, I would like to get close to put a note with contact info on his collar and see if anyone responds in case he doesn’t have a chip.
So my cat went missing a while ago and we just saw a post on Facebook of somebody finding a cat! Our cat looked just like that cat so we might have found our cat

My friend found a cat in my backyard yesterday and I loved on him then went to my front porch and he followed me. We gave him some food and water, and last night he stayed here because he thinks he lives at my house now!😂
I know this video is old but I just stumbled upon this problem so if anyone can help me I'd appreciate it. I go to my aunt's house and she lives in a pretty populated neighborhood on a very busy road. There's this stray cat that lives in the area she's got a big dirt lot for a parking lot so I don't know if this cat comes from next door or whatever the case. But last year in the winter I seen this cat and I built it a little shelter outside with tarps and blankets and even a pillow lol. It wouldn't come with me I was trying to get it out of the cold. I'm not a cat person by nature at all. In fact I have two little dogs. Fast forward to this winter and I've been seeing this cat for the last few months. Every time I pull up to my aunt's house this cat comes running out of nowhere. It follows me all over the place running up against my leg. It definitely remembered me from last year so I started bringing it food every time I came. It lets me pet it but you could tell it's still very apprehensive sometimes he snaps at me a little not to hurt me I don't think just isn't warning you swipes at me. I want to take him home and at least if nothing else relocate him to where I live in a condo association. He can stay in my basement where it would be nice and warm and then go outside as he pleases but at least he would have food and water and shelter whenever he wants it. I know that's not perfect but it's much better than where he is now freezing to death so what does anyone think
I have found many strey cats where i live but they always run away. In mexico where i am from.. cats are more playful and simply just trust you more. I really want a cat though, and my auntie has some but unfortunately we cannot take them on the airplane.
i found a stray cat there was so many strays out there but i liked this one its a female she has a good body with no collar but i can tell that she is hungry i saw two tuna cans in the bush and they were empty but she tried to get the bits inside i gave her food my mom does not let me take her but we will go there a lot to see her she was playful and kind she had a scratch in her left eye and she keeps falling in her sides like she wants a rub on the belly she was rubbing against my legs if someone could tell me what that means please it will help a lot 😊 i named her luna
I found a very very skiny and dirty kitten today. Its only bones and skin. She came to us, let us take her so we took her home. She is puring like crazy every time she sees as (we have her quarantined in the bathroom for now). She ate some food and now is sleeping in a cardboard box with a blanket. We take her to the vet tomorrow. Never had any cats.
I have a stray cat. I took it to the shelter. They said the cat is feral. I disagree bc he’s always let us pet him and pick him up. They neutered him and I have to pick him up tomorrow to release. I would like to keep this cat, but I currently have three pets. I’m asking everyone if they could possibly foster this cat.

I found a ginger cat just on the street so I ran and got him and he always came to my door so I took him in a put a microchip in him to make sure he never got lost and if he did they would know that he is lost and I'm the owner and yes I did have to go to the vet to give him shots and I washed him off to make sure he was fle free
Where I live we get a lot of cats that are dumped near our park. There was a cat living under my trailer at one time, and it was very very friendly. I was able to pet it and give it scratches on its ears and back. There were no babies, and I was under pressure by family members to not keep it or take it to the vet and look for a microchip. In the end I sealed the bottom of the trailer and the cat eventually left. I hope it got a great home. It was very sweet.
I did infact she was a female and she was a black cat I got to pet her for a while but then she scratched me then she walked away I found her again in the same place but i wasn’t allowed to touch her sadly she was taking away to a shelter and she was pregnant with 6-7 babies
this ginger cat has been coming to my house for several weeks now, he keeps bossing my female cat (Bell) and now she is scared of him, we fed him, gave him a bath and he sleeps sometimes on our bed, but it has been now 3 times the cat (ginger as we named him) has been so aggressive toward us, he bit my partner and he bit me today ............ I just lost it, and I took the bastard by the neck shouting at him that if he ever try to bite me again, I was going to kill him and brought him to the front door and simply threw him on the floor and shouted at him not coming back again as he was no welcome anymore, ............. he got scared and I saw him through the window he stayed outside in from of the house in a green area for quite some time. just watching from the distance, but didn't try to come near again, I didn't like his aptitude as we have been really caring for him and he just turned against us biting us and I won't allow him to come back anymore as he lost his place in our house, I cannot stand an ungrateful cat ..............damn bastard.

What do you do with a cat that constantly comes to your door. You can feed her and she goes back out in the streets. I want to take her to the vet but she just keeps running out in the streets. She will leave and comes back
I ran into so many stray cats in Dubai and Abu Dhabi i,m naming them but I don't keep them but I recorded them with my phone just in case also I take pictures of where I find the cat.
Small cat approached me n asked for food i am terrified of cats but kept meowing n seemed like it wanted to jump on my car as i was bringing groceries fortunately i buy fried fish for my 13 year dog so i gave it a pack n ever since it waits for me. There is plenty of stray cats in my neighborhood. Im not sure if these cats belong to one of my neighbors or she just feeds them but on her porch she has a couple of cat beds but they are everywhere during the day so im not sure. But anyway, I have 1 week and some telling my husband that I hear a cat and he thought I was going crazy and than 5 days later I thought my husband was in the kitchen hiding and making cats sounds, so I looked for him and his car was NOT THERE!! I got scared because I fear cats and I called him and he was like these cats are outside. I went outside there was not cats near so I went back and i didn't hear the cat so I was like ok w.e, when my husband came home he opened the basement door and he was like omg there's a cat, I thought he was joking and im like ok he was like no for real i just saw the cat. I was like see I know we hd a cat down there! We feed him and try to get him or her to come to us but no luck! Idk if I can keep a cat they scare me for some reason, we named him or her Tommy I always refer to the cat as he/him.
We have a spare room with my house. I want a mother cat from the street to stay there with her kittens and she herself comes here with her kittens. I feed her regularly and she is very close to me. What should I do for this if anyone could help

I found a stray cat under my house today, its half blind, it has a frozen tail and frozen snot on its face, and its ear is bleeding and it wont come 2 me, i gave her sum turkey and water so once me and my dad get it 2 trust us we r gonna take it 2 the vet

Was he friendly? If so put him in a carrier and take it to a vet to see if it’s chipped. Take pictures and post him on nextdoor and Facebook

found one today in my backyard. It let me pick it up to feed it canned tuna. it only ate half and walked away. It somehow let me pick it up again and I brought it back to the tuna so it can finish it but ran to the neighbors yard as soon as I let it down. Since I didn't wanna cross into their property I just sat there and waved goodbye. 🥲
