My cat Bob was a shoulder cat. All my t-shirts had holes in the shoulder and stomach area from him holding on and digging in with his front & back claws. he had thumbs and a bob tail. I think his short tail made him a little off balance sometimes and I could only pick him up from the front. If I picked him up from behind, he would just flail. I miss my baby Bob. I lost him in Feb 2016 to hyperthyroidism after 11 yrs. he was such a sweetheart.

Honestly, we can't. I would be a lot wealthier if I lived anywhere else, but it is a lifestyle choice. I may be poor, but I can walk to the shops and ride my bike all summer (all 2 months of it). Perhaps evidence that you don't have to be smart to be a vet :p

What I learned today: Cats like to be squished. Gently.
We took in this spunky little cat (small for a year old) a few years ago, and she’s a shoulder _queen._ She’ll meow (very loudly) at you if she’s in the mood for a ride, and if you make eye contact she’ll scramble for the nearest surface to shoulder-height to eagerly await you. If you’re busy, she’ll sometimes grow impatient and just leap onto you if she thinks she can make it (we always catch her). She’ll also climb onto your back if you’re leaning over for something, say, a pen off a desk, and will smugly curl up right where she is, purring contently. She only uses us for the transportation, I’m sure.

Dang, that actually helped with my female cat. She has been through at least two owners before me and had some bad expriences which obviously resulted in trust issues. She has now been with me for two years and it had gotten loads better, but she still did not want me to hold her. Normally I simply would have let her be, but for vet visits and such it was not an ideal situation. But then I saw this video and tried to squish the cat. And she loves it! She is turning into quite the snuggly bug. Thank you!

I didn’t know I could squish my cat :) Another tip that’s worked for me: if your cat’s in a bad mood, cover him with a blanket for a few minutes, he’ll totally reset his mood and come out happy and gentle!

Today I found out that my cat is a shoulder cat. My life is complete.
I highly recommend your "squish-that-cat"-method if someome wants to experience less death glares from your cat. I used the "squish that cat"-technique to administer the monthly flea-tick-prevention fluid to our 9 stray cats today (don't worry, they're all vaccinated and neutered). Turns out, 8 out of 9 cats agree with your technique. It went much faster than normal, as they tend to freak out when they see me with the little white tube every month. Those 8 are now in a corner near me somewhere, purring with a bit of distrust but not too much anxiety. Number 9, however, heavily disagreed with your technique and clawed his way out of the squish-that-cat by going backwards and lower than I thought a cat could physically go, despite me heavily squishing him as much as I dared. I ended up having to squish him awkwardly against my thighs, hoping he wouldn't claw his way out again, and basically just flicked some of the fluid between his shoulder blades from afar for the few seconds before he bolted backwards through a tumble the best gymnasts couldn't reenact. Number 9 is now glaring at me from the top of the cat tree, drooling out of pure anxiety (he's a fear-drooler). I'm pretty sure that if I weren't immune to cat glares, I would be not just dead, but really really REALLY dead. The previous month that I administered the fluid, however, I hadn't watched your video yet and there were 9 of his angry behavior hidden around the house and garden giving me the death glare, and they wouldn't come near me for four days. I give the technique an 8/9.

Oh dang. My cat's a shoulder cat! I usually wear a thick varsity jacket when she wants to gets on shoulders in the morning, so she'll occasionally just dig her claws into that to climb up and sit on my shoulder, perched like a parrot (she's a pretty small cat). Adorable. Except the morning I wasn't wearing my varsity jacket... there was a little blood.
