  • For those who are wondering what Strickland did to achieved this win, let me explain (it’s simple but amazing, so read and watch again) To preface: In this fight Strickland is using classic/conventional boxing fundamentals to beat a masterful freestyle/open fight style (within a MMA framework). 1. Respect your centre: Do you notice Stricklands head is always centred in relation to his feet and shoulders (imagine a line drawn from head to toe), never to far forward (exposing his chin), never to far back (losing his measured distance, slow response). Static head movement (no side to side) wouldn’t work in boxing, but I guess it can in MMA, as we have learnt, haha 2. “In fighting” stance: in (conventional) boxing you typically throw punches/defend from three different distances(close/mid/long), depending on how far you are from an opponent. In this fight, Strickland adopts a close (aka “in-fighting”) stance regardless of Izzy’s distance. In this stance you are the most protected (able to use things like a “Philly shell”), the most reactive (to throw effective conventional basics like a L+R down the line) and able to apply the most pressure (having an opponent that is always in your face sucks btw!). This stance is immensely tiring and extremely hard to stay in (aka “sit in”). Did you notice the commentators mentioned he’s been doing lots of rounds in prep for this fight… believe me, it shows! 3. Foot Movement: when fighting using a close “infighting stance”, your foot movement should be slow and purposeful (almost stiff… Ready!). You are on high alert to either throw or respond (in this case block, catch counter). Look how slow Strickland is walking, but always moving forward, always closing the gap and applying pressure. We call this “Stalking” (when done right it should be relaxed and purposeful, but the pressure gauge should always be red). Notice how Strickland isn’t sitting down between rounds and constantly moving, it’s both an external and internal pressure strategy to maintain the tempo (part of a larger game plan and not just for show) 4. Sticking to the game plan: this is the hardest thing to achieve, particularly when fighting a freestyle/open fighter like Izzy (the crux of his plan is to throw you off yours and leave you to the wind, quickly find an opening and end the fight). I should also mention that Stricklands (strict) game plan is so specific and unnatural that I get tired just watching this fight (from his perspective). To understand the opposite approach, just watch Izzy , constantly “stepping off”, catching a breathe and coming back with a new idea/shift in his game plan… but nothing seems to work (wearing him down over the long term). 5. Know your enemy, fight to their weakness: A conventional fighter will always beat a freestyle fighter if they stick to the game plan (easy to say, ridiculously hard to achieve). It means removing all emotion, being less free in your movement, having the least room for error and (purposefully) being in a constant state of pressure…. All while knowing your opponent is in the opposite position. It takes a level of mental agility and confidence that most will never know. In this fight, Strickland managed to achieve this (just like Barrera did against Naseem). It’s amazing to watch, particularly knowing how rarely it is repeated! I hope these notes help some folks out there to better understand what is happening in this fight and to truly appreciate a “unicorn” moment, like what occured on this night.

    • @kleenbeats That’s absolutely not an in-fighting distance. It’s clearly long range as majority of the strikes are push kicks, leg kicks and attempted high kicks from Izzy. Strickland stayed right on the threshold of being within range to strike and being able to back away from a low kick, which he did many times. Your entire comment is just kinda weird and seems like a desperate attempt to give advice in an area you aren’t too versed in.

Sean is just quicker stays locked in & his body position shoulder roll is beautiful. When Sean knocked Adesanyam down that first round, he took his soul right then. As a 675 favorite, he wasn't able to deal with Sean's defense. Sean saw his body set ,his mind adjusted, he'd throw up an arm to block and while still in position, counter back. Sean will beat him everytime he faces him. His style & mental toughness is a great combination. Adesanya ran away practically the whole fight...although he came back some & barely took the 2nd round. Sean dominated a really good fighter. I think DuPlessi is also in for a surprise .

    • Carlos, he was backpedaling. for those going through the comments, I've got good news. God is good because He gives His blessings to everyone, whether they be good or bad. but everyone has at least, told a lie, or stolen something in their life. and that makes them sinners, and God will not allow sinners in heaven; in His presence, because He is holy. so, God has to punish the sinners in hell, because God is severe and just. but God is also love and He made a way for some to be saved from His wrath. here are the steps: 1. admit that you're a sinner and are lost. 2. realize that the penalty of sin is death (hell). 3. believe that Jesus (who is God) died on the cross, was buried, then rose from the grave, to pay the penalty for man's past, present, and future sins. 4. trust Christ alone as your Savior, and not on your own good deeds to get you to heaven (nor a combination of your faith and self-righteous works). 5. pray to God NOW that you're accepting Christ's free gift of salvation because if you die before making this decision, it's too late, and you'll 🔥🥵😈 6. and to be a disciple, tell people about Jesus, read the bible, go to church regularly to know God's will for your life.
