This was a respectful fight. I think once that knee blew out, Jon knew he had won…hence no major take down attempts, strong blocks, direct solid strikes and confident posture. But, respect for Marreta continuing to fight as hard as he did.

O Jones já estava sentindo os chutes do Marreta a muito tempo. Mesmo o Brasileiro machucado depois q chutou o Jones, precisava ir pro tudo ou nada, pq o Americano já tava com os músculos das pernas travado, o Marreta respeitou de mais., era tudo ou nada. He landed cleaner punches, but jones dominated the mid range this fight by keeping santos against the fence, and by using his kicks. Jones landed many body, leg, oblique kicks, and landed a number of side kicks and spinning back kicks. Jones fight iq is amazing, his experience also won him this fight. Constantly feinting at him with the low kicks, feinting take downs, keeping Thiago off balance that’s why santos wasn’t pulling the trigger. But santos patience and movement made it harder for jones to dominate how he usually does.

This is the sociopath who targets the eyes, throws knee-damaging oblique kicks, tried to break Texeira's arm while standing (the sort of 'all of a sudden' submission that doesnt give you time to tap before getting injured), and so on. This is one of the rare fights where pressure heavily influenced the decision. Another one that comes to mind is Khabib Nurmagomedov v Tibau. The closest Jones ever came to getting beat, is somehow the most forgotten fight. Too bad santos got injured. Only marketable athletes will win close decisions over a champ like jones.

Even then, Santos was still landing and still putting up a fight. And injuries like that don't typically happen suddenly. That's accumulated damage likely compiling from training.

This was a respectful fight. I think once that knee blew out, Jon knew he had won…hence no major take down attempts, strong blocks, direct solid strikes and confident posture. But, respect for Marreta continuing to fight as hard as he did.

He landed cleaner punches, but jones dominated the mid range this fight by keeping santos against the fence, and by using his kicks. Jones landed many body, leg, oblique kicks, and landed a number of side kicks and spinning back kicks. Jones fight iq is amazing, his experience also won him this fight. Constantly feinting at him with the low kicks, feinting take downs, keeping Thiago off balance that’s why santos wasn’t pulling the trigger. But santos patience and movement made it harder for jones to dominate how he usually does.

The closest Jones ever came to getting beat, is somehow the most forgotten fight. Too bad santos got injured. Only marketable athletes will win close decisions over a champ like jones.

Even then, Santos was still landing and still putting up a fight. And injuries like that don't typically happen suddenly. That's accumulated damage likely compiling from training.
