  • Did this on the wife's clio, I decided to drain and refill the gearbox and change the bottom ball joint,while I was at it. We've had our clio 13 years now and it's a great little car for the home mechanic to maintain. Great video as always!

  • You sir, are fantastic, I can't thank you for this video, enough! I'm a complete novice and know nothing about cars. However, despite this, and with thanks to this very simple and concise video, I've managed to replace my reluctor ring with very minimal fuss. Great stuff, and thank you again.

  • Great video and very helpful many thanks. I need to do this on my Kangoo so I do hope those splines come out of the hub as easy as yours did. But I must admit you surprize me all that messing about with gearbox oil, all I use is 3 or 4 feet of 3/8 clear tubing and tight fit funnel a bit of wire or whatever and hook it onto the bonnet catch and just pour it in until it over flows . I cannot be the only one who has thought of this. Love your stuff keep them coming.

  • I have an old square of carpet to kneel on and normally after a session of banging and clattering it normally collects the grease and rust and makes it easier to clean up or a quick tool roll if the weather changes and you don't want your tools rusty. If it gets wet or to dirty I just replace it... Cardboard is ideal if you have big sheets but not many people buy big stuff that often.. Your son is very clever... • Thanks for returning the old intro. Just didn't seem like the real retrorestore without it. Not sure I like the Renault axle seal. Leave it to the French to create two potential leaks instead of one. Not to mention the disaster a split inner boot would cause. They always did do strange things. Probably why we haven't seen one over here since the 80's. Hope the ABS light went out....

    • Renault are actually the most reliable of the European brands these days and have been for the last decade at least unlike all the German brands that come out as poor for reliability in the actual break down charts here in the UK and are being slated for their unreliabilty and crap customer relations all over the world. Mercedes uses a lot of Renault engines etc in some of their cars now with their A-Class being Renault Megane underneath and their Citan van being a Renault Kangoo with a different grill, dashboard and badges and made in the same French factory as the Kangoo's and yet you get the usual mugs paying lots more for the Citan just because it has Mercedes badges on it. We have used Renault Kangoo vans, and Clio vans, for a long time and they are very reliable and had no problems with them - I liked the Kangoo so much I bought a 2008 Kangoo DCi Expression car version which was the last of the original generation and it is very versatile and can be used as a car, van, mini-camper etc. This has also been very reliable.

  • I had a Clio and it went through no end of cv joints and the ABS light kept popping up every time you moved your seat.

    @jaggass@jaggass5 жыл бұрын
    • Yes, that's a common fault on these.

      @retrorestore@retrorestore5 жыл бұрын
    • Maybe you have been buying cheap cv joints as we have not had any trouble with the cv joints on our Clio vans or Kangoos either and these are driven hard. The ABS light keeping coming on is the plug under one of the front seats usually the drivers seat and is not just a problem with Renaults as it is a problem on most cars - as if the wiring to it is slightly too short or is being pulled tight by the carpeting etc. You can extend the wiring or just cut the plugs off and solder the wires together or replace the plugs with better ones. The ABS light on my Kangoo Expression comes on every so often but all I do is reach under and push the two sides of the plug together and that puts the light out again until the next time. I may try and replace the plug at some point in the future but having a bad back and it being in an awkward place under the seat I will probably just stick to what I am doing since I know that is all the problem is.

    • Most decent nut runners (DeWalt, Milwaukee etc.) can deliver 950Nm with over 1600Nm of breakaway torque... That's way beyond anything that even I would remove. It would be that tight you would sheer the bolt first lol.
