The Blackshark V2x has a Hidden Problem | Razer Blackshark V2x Review

The Razer Blackshark v2x retails for around $80CAD and $60USD, I got mine on sale for $60CAD/$50USD.
Overall I have a couple things to say about this headset, I don’t have a lot to compare it to, but after using it for a couple days I’ve noticed a major problem with this headset that I want to talk about. So that will be the focus of the video.

So to anyone who recently bought this headset and is wondering what is wrong, try using a different splitter cable if you happen to have one and that might fix your problem. Or as i was suggested in the comments, maybe hook up a cheap external sound card. Update: sound on the right earcup of my friend's headset is not working anymore. He will contact razer for replacement. Negative experience overall. Edit 2: i have also contacted support and they again asked me to try on a different device. You know how in the video i connected it to my laptop and it sounded good? Well this time, i tried to connect the splitter and just plugged in the mic part, and then it sounded bad again... Edit 3: razer said the splitter is defective and that they dont have replacements, they just said get a splitter from somewhere else....
RAZER'S TRASH
bro i have blackshark v2 the one with sound card and my right earcup stopped working after a week i bought it. but then i watched some YT videos found out its windows problem go to speaker icon on right side below, right click select sound option, go to playback and select your headset. open it's properties go to levels check balance you'll find right earcup sound is at 0% happens with me often but this is the fix.
@@frankenstein5897 Are you sure??

Do you have to use the splitter cable on the pc to use the mic? It sounds better without splitter cable but could you connect it without it and still use the mic or is it rquired?
I fixed mine with this: -device manager -Sound, video and game controllers -realtek audio (right click-update driver) -browse my computer for drivers -let me pick from a list of available driver on my computer -high definition audio device Worked for me, good luck to you!
Yooo! Thank you so much for this info. I did all what you said and it works! Have a great day/night.
Thanks G
This was indeed the issue, thank you!
Just got a pair for Christmas and this worked perfectly, thanks!
thanks a lot
Finally the video about this headset I've been looking for.
thanks for the video! also loving the firewatch wallpaper
Thanks for this video, it's been really helpful and should be essential viewing for anyone considering buying what is a rather decent budget headset. What helped me is plugging the splitter into the back of the motherboard, as the front caused a crackling sound and didn't pick up my voice, and a Sabrent USB sound card didn't register my voice at all. Having plugged it into the back of my PC has made it nothing short of a dream. I hope this helps anyone else having trouble, though I'd prefer these problems didn't exist in the first place. ^^
helped me thank you legend
Do you have 2 jacks in front and back of your pc?
@@aukusti22 I do! But, and it's probably because of my how my PC was put together, I had difficulty getting one of the jacks into the front sockets. So the headphones could go in no problem, but the microphone would only go in half-way. Hence the back. But it might work on the front. No harm in trying the front if that works for you! ^^
@@withywarlock4298 i only have one port in the front and two in the back but my mic sounds bad from every port, i might try an external sound card
an you tell me how it sounds when you watch movies/ listen to songs, i know it's great for gaming, but im confused here,, plz help man
I knew I wasn't going crazy with the mic sounding VASTLY different from those two. From them it sounds perfectly fine, but with other people it sounds decent or just bad. I'm really glad to know that I'm going insane hearing vastly different mic qualities
10/10 would recommend watching this video before purchasing
Bro buy this one and save 100 buck the sound it's amazing man.
did you buy yet? can you tell me how it sounds when you watch movies/ listen to songs, i know it's great for gaming, but im confused here,, plz help man
Thankyou for the vid, that part about the guy putting the cable in the other end of the PC was spot on for me, my mic was horrible until i stumbled onto this vid and gave it a try.
Thanks so much was worrying about this but I didn't know the cable was a combo headphone and mic jack and thankfully I do have that Thanks so much!
10/10 video learned so much from it
Having issues with my microphone as well, I’m just gonna buy a different spliter cable, is there one you suggest ?
Can you teach us on how to clean the earpads for this headset? Ty in advance
You are a life saver!!! The splitter cable is so bad, I almost returned the whole headset. I had a USB audio splitter from another Razer headset ...RIP ...and that fixed it!!! Thank you 👍
Ok for those asking what kind of USB soundcard to use in order to fix this "MIC SITUATION". JUST USE ANY GENERIC USB SOUNDCARD. My soundcard doesn't even have a brand. It just says "Soundcard". My primary suspect was the ground in both of the ports of the motherboard so an external soundcard will fix it since it won't have direct contact to the port (Motherboard). It sounds great now.
Im thinking of buying these and gonna use them mostly without the splitter will it be a good choice ? Or should look up for any different one
First did you try to use another splitter cable? I had a very similar issue and odd issue I ran into. I think if you put your computer volume to around 50% then headset volume around 80%. Back to computer mic volume to 100%. Try it out.
I’m trying to decide between hyper cloud 2 and the v2/v2x on what’s best for directional movement on fps for ps4. I’m not sure if these are even the best so if they are which would you go with or do you have any other recommendations for what I’d like to get?
thank you for the honest review. i've watched many razer reviews and it sucks how so many people hide the flaws that some razer headsets have because they get paid to promote them.
Today in day to buy a headsets, is some so difficult because there are a lot of brands. and have watched some youtubers aren't sincerous with the analyze of the products
@@christiansenaguilaruribe very true
this actually doesnt have many flaws
I have it and I have zero complaints. They sound amazing but only after you tweak the sound with an EQ, otherwise they sound super muddy and the bass is way over the top in my opinion.
@@guymfalkon1236 Thanks for the honesty lol I'm glad to hear that. I ended up going with the HyperX Cloud Alpha and they turned out fantastic too. Wanted to try something other than Razer cause they were the only brand I used.
Well i do have an extra splitter cable from my former hyperx headset is it gonna work fine if mine has the same problem as yours?
I puchased a Blackshark V2x (included a usb sound card) .. same issue. Voice sounded identically crappy. I just tried plugging directly into the headphone jack on the side of my laptop (MSI GE76 Raider) and viola - great sound. So the included usb sound card is the culprit somehow, but I can't be bothered to troubleshoot. My laptop is state of the art in 2022, I have a brand new headset, the drivers are up to date. I dunno Razer maybe try not making a USB sound card smaller than a stick of gum?? What is the point of the USB sound card anyhow?
is the mic supposed to have a fuzzing noise in the background? my mic sounds good but it has a quiet fuzzing noise in the background
wow that guy who dropped 40 kills with phoenix is pretty cool
I tried your suggestion and switched out the razer splitter with the splitter from my old tecware headset and the muffle sound was gone. It wasn't the best but at least it doesnt sound as bad. May I ask the brand of your friend's splitter?
I got a razer nari wireless and a steel series arctis 7 wireless and the bad news is, they have only lasted me 1 year and a bit for both of them. But they were the best headsets I've ever used, the steel series was definitely my favourite becausd it was the smallest and most comfortable. Going to get the razer blackshark wired as they say it's the best most affordable headset you can have right now.
I am also experiencing the same problem right now, the mic quality is really distorted and muffled. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Luckily I got the full USB type C cable to connect headsets- EKSA 900 Pro + Creative SXFI gamer headset. Both work on Type C with solid materials.
@Dipidoodle i have the same problem like yours. I just bought my headset recently. Does your mic work when bought usb sound card ?
YOOOO YOU HELPED ME OUT SO MUCH. I FIXED IT AND MY MICROPHONE SOUNDS SO MUCH BETTER NOW. JUST PLUG IT INTO THE MOTHERBOARD AND RESTART YOUR PC AND BAM ITS BETTER NOW. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I had the Kraken X (sadly the headband snapped) and some of the spiltter cable issues you spoke of affect that headset too. If it wasn't correctly inserted the audio would only play in one ear and the mic wouldn't work. This shows that Razer's splitter cables are unreliable. That being the case I would like to know what makes a splitter cable good? Any insight is more than welcome.
I have no idea

hi. i brought razor sharq v2 from amazon. due to some reasons i had to format my laptop so had to reinstall razor synapse and the problem started. earphones work fine but there is not THX. i signed and also registered my product. it asks me activation code which i never received via email or on the box. any idea or solution you are aware of? Thanks.
does the surrond sound work on xbox series s because i play alot of pubg wich requires to hear where the person is
I have had nothing but issues with this same headset I updated the drivers on it recently and found out that in the 7.1 surround sound setup it switched my mhz in my settings to 192000Hz and 24 bits when the highest rating for this one is 16 bit 4800 Hz and its caused a ton of issues
Im using windows 10 but why the mic is not working. Should i get a splitter? Or is there any other ways to overcome this issue. Really appreciate any suggestions😥
I have the same issue, the sound is amazing but the microphone is so bad and i tried to take off the splitter and just plug it directly to the pc but it says that the microphone is not plugged. Any solution? Should i buy a soundcard or a new splitter?
im having the same problem
idk why but my pc def got a prob with the 3.5mm mic idk why but i cant get any mic to work like all i can hear is bzzzzzzzzzzz and there is a bit too much electricty on the 3.5mm cable that i can feel can it be the cause of the bzzz sound? also yea even the mobo 3.5mm mic does tge same shi
How can I get the serial number on the headphones? I dont see them on the headphone and dont know how to open them up (lost the box it came in)
i have a problem with these headphones, if i remove the splitter that comes with, and try to connect them on the front panel of my case, the mic can barely be heard if anything at all, just doesnt work, but if i use the splitter and connect it through the back from the motherboard, it works perfect, any solution for this?
cant you just use the splitter cable then?
A surprisingly quick fix would be using any cheap external usb sound card, better mic + improved sound quality
You are right. That would probably fix the issue, but i have to review the headset by itself. And i think razer shouldve seen this issue.
Thanks for that suggestion though, i will put your suggestion in my pinned comment.

Hi! I have the same headphone. Mic is working but only on sounds on my pc, not my voice talking to the mic. Hope you can help me how to fix this. Thank you
i have the same headset as in this video and i plugged them in with the splitter cable, i thought everything was fine until i went to a discord call with my friends and they said i sounded like i was underwater :( pls help what do i need to do
I used a Kraken for more than 5 years and the headset and splitter cable still works fine. BUT I can confirm that the splitter makes the sound worser. I personally think that's because of the increased range the signal has to travel and the fact that it's not intended to be splitted. Anyways Razer provides a lot of USB Headsets by now and they just work fine for me
My splitter doesn't do shi* on my PC. It's pretty much useless...
U gotta plug the audio jack into the splitter really hard for it to fully be in , I used to not do that and the sound was worse but when I did that it worked

Hi, do you think that the fact that the mic isn’t removable and that I wouldn’t even use it cause I have a seperate one makes it a deal breaker for this headset if I’m looking to buy it?
I laughed at this part in the vid, he said he watched reviewed and yet still bought them even with non removable mic.
I purchased the "courage JD" version, and it doesn't even come with the splitter cable, which i suspect is why my mic isn't working at ALL. I've tried everything in this video, and nothing works. I decided to purchase a separate splitter cable to see if that works. I tried connecting through the USB sound card, and still nothing. I'm extremely disappointed with the mic issues, and hope i can get it to work when i get the splitter. My old Logitech G430s worked perfectly fine, but i thought these would be more comfortable.
Hello, can you use any USB sound card for this headset ?
I'm using the included splitter and it seems perfectly fine for now
Thats great!
I’ve been using it since April and no problems yet

@@swapnilsaha7629 it's good for the price, but it won't blow your mind. you can eq it with Equalizer APO and it will sound significantly better, but still not as good and resolving as a decent pair of headphones. But for a gaming headset I find it very comfortable, very good noise isolation, sounds good with proper eq, and the mic is really good for a headset.

Hey guys pls tell me is it possible to use 7.1 surround sound on these headphones on PS5? And if yes then how
after 2 years with this headset got it to work somehow with high definition driver instead of realtek. but still sound leak through mic even tried diffrent splitter. so my conclusion is that this headset just isnt compatible with pc. all of my friends have it on console and it works with no problems. so or find a spliter that will work for you or just buy diffrent headset. i recomend on corsair void elite usb. very comfortable on the head not pressing the head hard. and sounds great for the price. and no connectivity issues.

The terrible mic is a model problem from what I researched. It strangely only works well with Windows native drivers (pretty well tbh). I got mine from a Razer Bundle, exact same issue. I'm using a Hyperx splitter, same problem. In my old and new PC I had the same issue (both mobos made by Gigabyte, with a really good construction), and I used so many different mics here without issues for 8 YEARS (OneOdio A71 and many cheap headsets/mics.. all without mic problems on realtek drivers). Pay attention to your damn QA, Razer... besides this, the headset is good, but don't pay too much for it.
what is a good price for a good splitter cable?
This happened to me but I don’t even use the spitter I play on Xbox how do I fix it
Hi, may I ask if you can actually use the headset mic WITHOUT using the splitter cable provided? Meaning connecting directly with the single 3.5 from the headset itself only. The mic will still work perfectly fine, yes? As I’ll be using the headset mainly on my gaming laptop I do not need to use the extension cable for the added length. So if I do not use the extension/splitter I guess I’ll be bypassing this issue many ppl seems to be facing ?
As far as I know, you have to have some sort of splitter/adapter in order for both the headphones and microphone to work. I use the USB adapter I got in the box rather than the Y splitter though. I'd like to know how your headset is doing currently because I'm still having troubles with mine
@@SchlueterMan hey, what troubles are you having? Hope you can have it resolved . At the time of my post I was still researching. I placed an order of a Blackshark v2 x USB over the weekend. Seeing all the feedback and sharing ppl have with this headset, as good as it is bang-for-buck wise, the cable/connection/splitter issue seems to be a big 50:50 hit and miss. That’s when I realised Razer actually makes an only USB version of this headset too! Guess Razer is well aware of the situation and troubles customers are having and must have decided to release the USB only version. Yet to receive the headset but I suppose I’m lucky in that I didn’t get this headset when it was first launched and have this other option available presently. Price wise is similar and since I primarily game on PC, I’m fine with USB-only The original Blackshark V2 X was released 2yrs ago and the USB version only sometime last year!

plug the mic port of the splitter into the phone and take a voicenote on the phone to see if it is the computer or the cable
It’s gotta be a production issue. Companies partner with distributors who cut deals to use companies’ designs to massively produce their product. Because of how long this has been on the market, I would imagine that somewhere along the line, the distributors thought they could pass it with some other material. Things that are less conductive or not insulating the wires well enough. I’m about to get 2. For my channel

Idk if this is just me, but if you have an ear that is small or if your a kid. The headphones might cause your ear to feel really sore. I am currently experiencing the issue and it is very painful. This only happens if you wear it for a long time. The only way to get rid of the swelling is to not wear them for a week or so.

I have the same headset and sometimes use it on my phone for calls, usually it's fine but sometimes people on the other end complain that they are hearing a lot of mechanical noises and distortion, however I don't use the splitter at all. And in any app that I can record my voice in the mic always sounds really good on my end. This plastic headset unfortunately makes lots of creaking sounds when I move my head or jaw that transmit loudly back into my own hearing, I thought maybe the creaking was causing the sound issues in the mic but again when I test it on my own recordings it's not an issue at all.

I really recommend razer black shark v2 over razer blackshark v2 x cuz I think with black shark v2 there is a bundle where you can buy black shark v2 with soundcard which makes the price increase by 40 dollars and the soundcard really makes the audio 10 times better and not just that there is a grab bag for outdoor usage and a detachable mic which is a pretty good deal for 100 usd
how to make it a lot louder i can speak normally while kissing the mic but there will be almost no sound even with +10dB
like many have expressed thank you for the honest review of the headset. A lot of the reviews i've seen on youtube have embellished the product a bit that it seemed too good to be true. still seems like a worth while product for the price range.
i plugged it to my creative sound blaster AE-5 Plus... it sounded so much better. haha... but yeah, the splitter cable is an issue, it will have noise over time, perhaps might gets worse over time.
Good to know that the splitter screws up the mic quality
