You’ve probably heard of the Razer Blackshark V2 X. As people lost their minds when it was released and it has taken the gaming market by storm. In this review I’ll discuss if it is worth the hype or not by going over the different versions, build quality, design, comfort, mic quality and sound quality finishing it up with a conclusion.

-------------------
BLACKSHARK V2 X vs BLACKSHARK V2 vs BLACKSHARK V2 PRO WIRELESS:
COSTS:
There are three versions of this headset. The first is the base model which is what we are reviewing today named the Blackshark V2 X, emphasis on the X. It retails for $60 but is often on sale for $44 and gives excellent price to performance. Next up is the middle of the road Blackshark V2 and it retails for $99 and I don’t see it on sale very often. The market is saturated in this price range. But it still holds its own. Next is the high end which is the Blackshark V2 Pro Wireless. It retails for $179 but I see it on sale regularly for $ 150 - 160. I can’t comment on its quality compared to others.
DIFFERENCES:
There are a few minor differences between the Blackshark V2 X and The Blackshark V2. The biggest difference is the TriForce Drivers. They both use 50mm drivers but the V2 uses titanium-coated diaphragms in addition to using a 3.5 mm jack + USB sound card. These two upgrades lead to mildly clearer sound across the entire spectrum along with unlocking more control. As the V2 can be seen in Razer Synapse Software allowing you to tune the EQ, adjust mic EQ, and adjust the THX surround sound. The X doesn’t have any software and uses a download code for 7.1 surround sound which unlocks it in Razer Synapse. But you don’t get the adjustable EQ’s. The second biggest difference is the V2 has a removeable mic which the X doesn’t. This was one of my biggest cons and is greatly appreciated. Third, you get slightly improved ear cushions. Fourth, the cable is braided. Fifth, the V2 is 12 grams heavier than the X. Sixth, the Razer logo is black on the X and green on the V2.
The differences between the Blackshark V2 and the Blackshark V2 Pro Wireless are even less. The biggest difference is the V2 Pro uses Razer’s Hyperspeed Wireless and supports RGB lighting on each earcup. Second, the Pro uses the HyperClear Supercardioid mic over the V2’s HyperClear Cardioid mic. Third, it is 320 grams compared to 262. But otherwise they are the same.

  • I do have a question for you. So, apart from gaming, do you consider this headphone be certified to hear music and game soundtracks while playing your favourite games ? Or are there better options out there for a similar price range ? Finally, can you put one of those cat ear clip-ons made by Razer (V1 not V2) ?

    • All great questions. I don't think I have good answer for you unfortunately. Mostly, just because I haven't tried a lot of it. No, I don't think this is a great headset for music/game soundtracks. As I think the bass is a bit too heavy where it squashes the other frequencies. Additionally, I don't think it has good enough separation (imaging) to make that super great. I think you'd be better suited with HyperX Cloud III. Which would be in a similar price range. But performs drastically better. As for the cat ear clips, I have no idea. I'm sorry.

The biggest concern is the build quality. Coming off the aluminum framed krakens, these feel very flimsy. I baby them. Great review though! 👍

    @JameelKhan-vi8yj@JameelKhan-vi8yj Жыл бұрын
    • I find these to be fine. And by fine I mean they do everything alright but nothing great. For my ears they didn't have very good directional sound. But that is going to be highly personal as our hearing is different. I think my hearing is semi-broken as a lot of headsets directionality are meh to me. Also, I haven't found a headset that checks all the boxes and don't think it exists. You are always trading something. With those disclaimers out of the way the best directional headphones I've tried are (in no specific order). Ranking (S, A, B, C, D, F Tier) from best to worst. 1. Corsair HS80 Wired (Haven't tried the wireless variant. These are my go too for most people but I don't think they work on console which sucks). 2. Sennheiser Game One. Solid all around. Not the most comfortable. 3. Sony H3 has phenomnial directional sound. But the rest of the sound is terrible. And really everything else is F Tier about it. 4. Astro A10 Gen 2 had pretty good sound. But are defective most of the time so I can't recommend them. 5. The G335/535 are alright. I found directional sound to be good. Comfort is also good. Mic was alright. But overall sound for most people is going to be a bit bland and boring. Has a lack of bass. 6. The ones I use all the time and actually hit pretty much every box are the Steelseries Arctis NOVA Pro. I have the wireless variant. They are incredible all around and I love them. But they are stupid expensive. I got mine on sale for $250 which I think they are worth. The $350 price point to me is at best $50 too expensive at worst $100. If you can afford it that would be my recommendation. I'd also recommend checking out this channel (GadgetryTech) as he focuses more on headsets and may be able to give you more ideas

    • I'm not the biggest fan of this headset. As I just wasn't impressed by it. That's not to say it is a bad headset. But it sits comfortable in the "good" category. Where it doesn't do anything particularly poor or excellent either. I personally prefer the G335. But the G335 is very treble focused which turns some people off. As the bass presence isn't quite as good. But I'm able to hear audio cues, positioning, and footsteps a lot easier. Along with pull apart different parts of audio easier. But explosions don't sound as good and I don't feel as immersed. I also find it to be more comfortable and have a better microphone. My recommendation would actually be the Corsair HS80 Wired. As I think it looks fantastic. The microphone is the best I've ever tried on a headset. Seriously its ridiculously good. Comfort is solid but not as good as the other two above. But the sound is almost the perfect balance between the two above. Where you have a good low end (as it can actually give you rumbling lows which adds a lot to immersion), then you have very strong mids (some people will say overbearing), and then great highs. Leading to a relatively "balanced" sound profile which allows me to have excellent audio cues (footsteps, reloads, gunshots, brushing of leaves, etc.), excellent directional quality, great imaging, good gunshot and explosions, imaging, and immerses me into whatever it is that I'm listening too. It's $99 which is a bit more than you were looking. But I'm sure on sale it would be close. If not I think it is worth saving up and getting a better headset. As the build quality is also solid and it comes with RGB if that is your jam. I've really enjoyed my time with this headset. I'm still in process of doing the review for KZhead but have finished all my testing and it is my favorite around $99 headset I've tried. The Sony H3 is almost an improved G335. Where comfort is great. Microphone is fine. Sound quality is treble focused but I think has THE BEST directional sound I've ever tried. With the second best going to the HS80 Wired. Where I'm literally able to hunt people down by sound alone. But the rest of the sound is very treble focused and doesn't lead as much to immersion. Which is why I think most reviews are calling them adequate for sound. As you really need to get used to it. I had a hard time nailing it down. But how I'd explain it now is surgical/clinical. You can hear almost everything (it may not be fully accurate but doesn't sound processed either). But you can hear every single audio cue, imaging is great, directional quality like I said was the best I've tried. Explosions are improved over the G335 where there is actual bass. But it is slightly recessed and more accurate over rumbling. Which leads me back to unless if you live and breath for competitive play then the HS80 is the best "balance" where you can easily use it for almost everything and have an above average time with it.

    • @@ThomasMuehler Thank you for the incredibly detailed answer, I truly appreciate it 🙏🏼 Tbh, i need a headset almost exclusively for playing warzone hahah, so the Logitech 335 sound like the best bang for buck in that regard, and definitely better than the blacksharks, based on your opinions. Don’t really care if the overall sound is not “perfect” you know.. The HS80 is a bit pricy for me, in my country, it’s like 100+.. Don’t really feel the need to spend that much money, considering what i need them for.. Sony is also close to 100, and honestly I don’t like the look of em 😅 Thank you for all the recommendations, and if there’s any more, any better than the 335’s for that price, 50-60, I’d love to know 😂😅

    • @@user-pg8en5qx7i Yeah, if it is for PlayStation then the H3 would be best over the HS80 (as I don't think the HS80 are officially supported but do work). Granted both of those are off the table. But more of an FYI. As for the anything better than the 335. Not that I can think of. There are a ton of headsets I haven't tried. But the ones I've mentioned are the ones I've tried recently and actually liked and would recommend. As for the Baracuda X Wireless. Haven't tried them so I can't comment on them. They do sound interesting though from the feature set. But I have yet to find a Razer headset that I like the sound on. Also, depending on how much you use your microphone (which I would assume regularly with warzone) wireless headset mics tend to be worse than normal headset microphones (which usually aren't the best anyways). So something to keep in mind or research more into on how this particular one does. You lost me a bit on "considering they are ps4 controller compatible, which i'm not sure of yet". As I can take that in a lot of different ways so I'm not quite sure what that meant.

    • I don't know why that would be the case. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

      @ThomasMuehler@ThomasMuehler2 жыл бұрын
    • i know why. Look, sometimes isn't only the headphones, but the internal hardware that reproduces the sound, meaning, the sound card. I don't know much about this theme, but enough, i know my phone has a better soundcard, because when i used my old budget auriculars, those of 1$, it sounded a lot better in my phone than in my pc, and i bought a lot of these, so i became some sort of guru to know what sounded the best, you would be surprised how some of them even being the same pirated design sound better, this for the cheap manufacturing, some are made betters. But the thing is my razer blackshark v2 X sounds just as high, but more clearer, than those cheap auriculars i had, in MY PHONE, in my pc it sounds pretty much low, just as the cheap auriculars i had before, always better in my phone. You would be surprised how bad some integrated sound cards are in decent motherboards, that's because when gaming how much high should sound is very subjective and taste dependable, so they don't care to make something good, and at most focus in clear enough sounds. Long story short, buy a sound card. I have read these are awesome good when put in sound cards. It's to expect. Do note, that the difference between my pc sound and my phone sound with these blackshark ARE HUGE. And the sound card of my phone should not compare to normal sound cards for pc of 70$ or more XD. I gonna buy one after my monitor, of course after researching enough, because i'm not an expert in these things. My hope is the sound card is the obvious problem. And too you can MEANWHILE use software to sharpen a bit the sound, you can really use very high volumes , but without the proper hardware, it will sound more and more disturbed the more you higher the sound. Softwares like Viper4windows is what you are looking for.

    • Too i would recommend searching and manipulating a bit your configs, and drivers, maybe you need to update something.

      @robertoaltuve4145@robertoaltuve4145 Жыл бұрын
    • @Roberto Altuve Thanks for you input Roberto. I would agree to an extent. That yes, the soundcard can be playing a big role. However, in recent years (maybe the last 3 - 5) the soundcards you get on your motherboard have gotten dramatically better. Especially, if you are buying from a reputable brand and get a mid to high level motherboard. But if you are rocking an older motherboard or don't have the correct sound drivers (or updated drivers) running it can reduce the sound quality. Dedicated sound cards can be beneficial in improving your audio. But that isn't always the case. There are two types a Digital Audio Converter (DAC) and and AMP. The DAC will decode the sound while the AMP will increase the volume of said sound. Personally, I use the Schiit Modi 3 and JDS Atoms Amp for most things. I also use the GoXLR Mini because I like to separate my sound into different channels (music goes to music, game to game, video to video) so I can have different sound levels that I can adjust on the fly with a physical slider. As I don't like virtual options for this (Voicemeeter Banana). But my sound is also redundant (as I am going through The Stack (Modi 3 and Atom Amp)) as they are both DAC and Amps and is a stupid way to do it and a waste of money. As you only need The Stack, GoXLR Mini, or Motherboard Sound (depending on PC). Or a different Soundcard. Windows has also continued to make sound on the PC more complicated. Where you can have headset sound along with onboard computer sound. If one of those is low then it can make everything low even though one is at 100%. Not always the case but sometimes. I'd just recommend doing your research before buying as sometimes diminishing returns can come up quickly.

    • Great question. I think the Edifier G4TE is fantastic for the price. It's not as pretty as the Blackshark V2 but both are comfortable. As mentioned in my review I found the sound on the G4 to be more surgical where the V2 is going to be a bit more fun but not as accurate. Meaning if you are going for a headset where you want to hear details to give you a competitive edge then the G4. If you want a headset that you just want to enjoy sound the V2. I think I prefer the G4TE. Which is a bit shocking for me to say. But that headset seriously blew my expectations out of the water. I haven't done dedicated A vs B testing. @lionakarami7986@lionakarami79864 ай бұрын
    • I think that the G335 is better than the Razer Blackshark personally. I'm not sure what other reviewers are saying. The reason why is because I find the bass and mids on the Blackshark to be too aggressive causing it to spill over into the other sounds of the headset making it hard to hear each sound individually. Additionally, I find the imaging (directional) sound to be worse on the Blacksharks. Making the G335 a better COMPETITIVE headset. As I am able to hear directional sound, footsteps, etc. a lot easier on them. However, gunshots and other sounds aren't as full making it a less IMMERSIVE headset which I would give to the Blackshark. With the G335 being a 3.5 mm headset it DOES NOT support G Hub.

  • This or g335 for both movies and videogames?

    @YEPCLOCK69@YEPCLOCK692 жыл бұрын
    • Depends on what you want the most out of your sound. Blackshark has a more bass heavy sound which means gunshots, explosions, and lower end male voices sound better. Which means for media viewing it is better. It also does a good job for non-competitive gaming. But if you are big into competitive gaming the directional sound and sound queues aren’t as good due to the bass kind of overwhelming some of the high end sounds which are critical for reloads, weapon movement, footsteps, etc. But the G335 is brilliant for competitive gaming. As it is treble (high) focused. Meaning you can easily hear footsteps, reloads, weapon sway, glass breaking, etc. Along with having great directional sound. But bass can be a bit anemic (thin) so explosions and gunshots don’t sound as good. But I find this headset to sound more “realistic” if a bit tinny. Where the other is a bit bloated, processed, and muddy. Both are comfortable. I think the mic on the G335 was better. I don’t recall but you could go to my reviews and listen to the mic sections for both and make up your own mind (if that’s important). Personally, I like the G335 better for gaming and media. But I also prefer the treble focused sound so there is a lot of bias there. Most people DON’T like that. I’d love to hear which one you get and your thoughts on it.

As they were a bit bass/mid heavy making it hard to hear footsteps and other higher pitched audio queues. But they were comfortable. You can judge the mic audio quality yourself. And it seems a lot of people really like them. For me they weren't my cup of tea and I prefer the Logitech G335. But those also have there problems. But at $100 I think you're going to take some trades no matter what. And for the most part the only trade you're making with these is that they aren't good for competitive gaming. Which I know didn't really answer your question. I think they are good, not great. But headphones come down to personal opinion and what YOU are looking for. As mentioned for me they didn't check my boxes. But I still think they are a solid headset for the price.

    • @@NNSenpai Again, I think the G335 is great for competitive games. I enjoyed the HyperX Flight but I think those are over $100 but you can find them used for a lot less. I'm not the best one to ask. As I haven't tried a lot of headsets around the $100 range. I think the Sennheiser Game One are excellent but I don't think those are around anymore. But I think they have something similar on Massdrop (now drop.com). Which would probably be my actual recommendation. (drop.com/buy/drop-sennheiser-pc38x-gaming-headset). But that was a lot more than I thought as well. Like I said I don't try a lot of headsets around the $100 range. I also tried the Astro A20 Gen 2 and thought they were good. They are on sale currently. Last, the Edifier G4 surprised me for the cost. It isn't the most attractive but sounded great and was very comfortable.

    • @@NNSenpai I don't use Razer Synapse for sound. Or EQ anything so I'm not sure if that would work. I know the V2 X isn't seen in Synapse (as it is a just a 3.5 mm headset). So if that EQ you are talking about works on anything plugged into your system then you could but I'm not sure if it would be changed enough to make a difference or not. As again I don't EQ things myself. I'm more of the stock that if it doesn't sound good stock then it just doesn't sound good. I'd love to hear which one you decide to go with and your thoughts on it.

    @coldblind@coldblind2 жыл бұрын
    • since I haven’t tried the recon 500 I really can’t give you a good recommendation. I wasn’t completely blown away by these. So, looking at the marketing for the recon 500 I would probably try that one if I were in your shoes. Also, I’ve enjoyed turtle beaches in the past. Usually their build quality is less than stellar being mostly cheap plastic. however their sound quality tends to be pretty good especially for competitive gaming as they focus on the highs while also providing clean bass. And by that I mean it’s not going to be overwhelming or particularly hard hitting but present. But this is coming from experience from many years ago and I’m sure they have changed a lot. But that’s who I would try out first and if I didn’t enjoy the sound signature I would return it and then try these guys.

  • razer blackshark v2 x for non competetive? i think they are great for competetive , iv had hyperx cloud 2 and razer v2x and with razer its way more easy to distinguish where the shots and footsteps are coming from

    • Between the HyperX Cloud 2 and the Razer Blackshark V2 X the Blackshark V2 X may be a better competitive headset. But compared to the plethora of other headsets I've tried and what I would rate as a good competitive headset the Blackshark V2 X doesn't fit the bill. But sound is subjective so maybe for your ears it works better than for mine.

    • While I get what you are going for. There is a difference for people who lack skills or are developing skills that you already have. I can get rank 50 on Halo with TV speakers. But that doesn't mean that having a high quality headset doesn't make my job easier. As all three of the games mentioned don't prioritize audio. CSGO being a slight exception. Yes, this is "fine" for anyone. But if you lack skill and need any type of competitive edge or are playing a different competitive game, such as Escape From Tarkov, where sound is critically important then your headset can make or break you.

  • I own the Cougar Phontum S (i bought them in 2018 for 70USD) and i got the Blackshark V2 X one week ago for 65Euros. Literally they feel cheap, nothing special with the sound, my phontum S headset overal sounds better, the bass is overexposed u need to tune it with EQ, and the mic is a midrage mic for that kind of money. So nothing special. Dont get me wrong. I do not mean that it is for the trash, but overal not worth the price. If u can find it at 30-35max it is a good deal. For 45+shipping its a no
