Razer NAILED IT - BlackShark V2 and V2 X Gaming Headset Review
The Razer BlackShark V2 X is our new leader for the best budget gaming headset of 2020 and it might be the best gaming headset for the money....period since the V2 X price is just $60. The Razer BlackShark V2 with its USB sound card is another option since it costs $100 and brings other features too. When these two headsets become available, others like the Logitech G PRO X, Sennheiser GSP 300, Sennheiser PC37X and Steelseries Arctis 5 have been put on notice that the BlackShark microphone, sound quality and comfort test is the new benchmark. But how does the Razer BlackShark V2 compare vs the BlackShark V2 X?

When you have zero plans to buy a new headset but you still watch the review...
Tell me about it, I have Sennheiser HD660s and yet I was curious to see the review
Portinha its entertainment.
using AKG K702 and still checking out any audio review cause im always curious to see where things are going now for razer.
solid audio related content lately👍😁
Hey thanks for the review, really really helpful and helped sway me into buying! I’m going to try the USB card one as I figure I can swap it out if I don’t like it and often USB suits my setup better. Thanks again!
Oh hell yes! You don't know how happy I am for these. Used to have the original with the helicopter pilot aesthetic to it, had 2 of them, first one wore out naturally, the second one had a bad encounter with my ex. They were so expensive for the longest time and I just now find that these exist. I am SO FRIGGIN HAPPY! Now all we need is a new SteelSeries Merc Stealth Pro keyboard and I'm set again!
For some reason I thought this vid was from razer

I owned the original Blackshark headset. I loved the comfort and the rugged, hard plastic with the streel headband was the perfect combination. The headset lasted me about 5 years with some repairs on the wiring.
Thank you!! for actually showing exactly how the headset adjusts it's height. I've seen plenty of headset reviews just recently and I see people skipping the most obvious and basic things like that.. 😐

This is why I love Dimitri's videos, high quality videos, honest opinions on each product and a in depth test with rivaling products. In order to ensure you (the consumer) make the best decision possible. P.s. I got a Logitech G Pro X recently, and I and really pleased with it.
Picture quality, slight humor, objectiveness and overall professionalism is a step above the rest as far as independent channels go. Dimitri adds that one bit of emotion and humility the other hosts on this channel lack, no offense intended.
the other black dude review is just lazy and lousy when compared to Dimitri lol
Thanks for this! I was turned off by the mic sound quality of the V2 but you clarified that it was the sound card unlike most other youtubers.

Plz do a quick review on the wireless version, it's looking like a better purchase over the logitech g pro x, unless they messed something up horribly.
aaaaaaaaand that's a sub, first vid I've watched of yours, I love it!
Really great comprehensive review on this, Dmitry! Thanks! Really want to get the V2 now after watching this video!
Did u buy v2 or v2 x
highs help you hear footsteps more. Bass is only for immersion. Therefore, the v2 is better at competitive than the cheaper variant. There is a reason why the soundblaster g6 soundcard has "scout mode" button that boosts the highs. The gsp 600 from sennheiser has lots of highs and little bass for exactly that.
I've tried the V2 PRO version of this headset, the sound quality and the comfort is well worth the money BUT if your after the perfect headset for you then there are some things you should be aware of, the headset is really comfort the foam padding does a great job however the audio is abit of an acquired taste, it is really good and the software is great to play around with yet it seems to lack a richer, crisper sound that you do get with more expensive headsets right out of the box and the other thing I didn't like was the wire headband it's sturdy and I doubt it would break but you do find after a while that the headset can move or slide so you have to re-adjust the positioning from time to time which can be alittle annoying.
There's not a single period in that entire paragraph.

I won’t lie I think the v2x microphone sounds just a little bit better. It’s still not enough to put weight the other pros like the cushioning, software customization, and the addition of a dongle which could come in handy (you never know)
I love we sound testing in Tarkov now
I just got these headphones and am absolutely loving them! I just have one question: should I be on the Razer Sound Card (Stereo) when doing anything but playing a game, and switch to THX default when I am?
tysm hardware canucks you have helped me a lot in your videos these past few months and I cant thank you enought tysm, and have a great day.
Detachable mic should not be understated. That means you can also use the V2 like normal headphones on a plane or something with no embarrassment.
really love watching HC's headset reviews. just here watching without the intention to buy any of these. hahaha.
From this video, I can tell GSP-300 and V2X has similar microphone audio quality, although the GSP-300 has some white noise audible. I use GSP-300 at home, the earcup leather is messed up and peeled off due to continuous use. But I still use it due to the excellent audio quality. I probably will consider the V2X for future use, though.
I really like this headset but one thing I'm worried about is the passive noise cancelling. I live in a household with multiple people and I get frequently called throughout the day and I have to be the one who hears doorbells and etc. Do you think these would block out these sounds too much? I used to have (and still have but not using it) the Corsair Void Wired, and I really loved it's pnc (or lack of it) since it's perfect for the surroundings I am in. I recently decided to get the Sony WH1000XM4 and whilst they are stellar sounding, the pnc is way too much on these, and so I plan to buy another headphone/headset that would be one where I'd switch around depending on the situation. Maybe this can give you context of what I would prefer with headphones/headsets regarding pnc.
I have both models and seem to gravitate more to the V2x. I play on console and both sound damn near identical to me. However I like the earpads better on the V2 x as they are almost identical to Brainwavz Hybrid models. Microphone is also slightly clearer from what friends have told me.
I like being able to use the v2 as headphones without it looking like a gaming headset though.
How is the direction of sound in game's like Cod Warzone?
I just got it today. Very impressed with the sound quality and bass. A lot of setting for MIC. I highly recommended it. Very comfortable.
Hey man quick question sorry to bother you but I s the headset audio good like can you hear the footsteps gunshots and locate where they are
7 months later, How is it?
Holy smokes... I bought the V2 version (rather than the V2 X for some reasons). And WOW!!! I'm totally amazed. Razer finally made their homeworks for the sound, the sound is superb. A little lacking for the bass, but since I'm no basshead I don't mind
Thanks! This was very helpful
Razer: we have a really good microphone on this headset Also Razer: let's put an USB sound card for that Razer quality sound signature so they know they are using a Razer product.

I honestly love every one of your videos.
I still feel like the comparison to MH751/752 is a missed opportunity in this review. I hope you will address it in the future! Also props for the product packages in the background of the shot. I'm glad that Razer chose to change their approach on the market starting with keyboards and now their most weak point which was always audio.
Yeah I'm googling like crazy through the entire internet trying to find a comparison with MH751 cuz mine pair just broke and I need to know whether I should buy a second pair or go for something new and last time I checked MH751/2 was the undefeated champion. So yeah... It frustrates me that literally no KZheadr compares them (this is like 4th review I'm binge-watching). An important thing that people should know before buying a headset that almost nobody talks about is the availability of replacement parts, mainly the cushions, given that this headset tend to last around 3 years but the cushions (in my case) only last about a year and then finding a replacement is a pain in the ass
I don't know about two years ago, but in 2023, Razer sells spares. Ear cushions are one item in their shop-

@Hardware Canucks would you ever consider talking about the Beyerdynamic MMX 300 ? Personally I feel it's the best headset I've ever used for pc/gaming but I rarely find any proper reviews of it online.
Could you tell us which motherboard you're using on that PC? onboard mic audio sounded really clean!
And that's a very relevant question. I've heard motherboards with anything from abysmal audio quality to some really decent ones. Back when motherboard reviews was a big thing on the tech sites they used to put at least some effort into testing both mic and audio out, but I haven't seen anything like that in the last few years.
I think it's cleaner because of the noise gate in the software
@@blahorgaslisk7763 TechPowerUp still does mobo reviews and they're still great
Yes, this! This question is actually important.
i wouldn’t recommend getting any for audio especially with how powerful CPUs can be now a days too much interference , invest in a desk mic / MoTU. M2 interface , they have decent headphone amp on them too for the money and well it’s a DAC too
I remember how much I wanted the blackshark many, many years ago.. The colour scheme and looks of it was so cool to me, ended up getting the characherias or something. Broke only a few years later, since razer headsets seem to be notorious for fragile wiring
Might just be my next headset! Nice review bro 👍🏿
Did you end up getting them?
@@tanuncito Not yet. looking at getting a kb b4 upgrading the headset
Been using the V2 since October 2020, and it has served me very well. It’s by far the most comfortable headset/headphones I’ve ever had. I’ve worn them for 6+ hours at a time and my ears didn’t even start to hurt. The only things I could criticize would be the mic (which I don’t even use anymore, I plug them into a Blue Yeti now) and the sound quality. It’s not terrible, but they just don’t sound good when compared to basically any of my previous headphones.
can you adjust the settings and make it clear? or no?
@@sofialee2471 just saw this. What did you mean by “make it clear”?

The size adjustment is ass, these have no clicks so you dont know that both sides are exact the same size. Which causes unbalance in the audio if you have other side longer than the other.

@@OneDollaBill you own one ??
nice review indeed... so please help me deciding, which is better regarding footsteps directions (imaging) in fps games, the blackshark v2 or the logitech g pro 2019 ?
I purchased these and the SHP9500's to compare. It's not even close, the SHP9500's blow these out of the water on sound clarity, soundspace, and gaming. The only advantage they have is bass. The SHP's are weak in the bass area unless you boost it with an EQ or DAC. I just ordered the Fidelio X2HR's to compare with the SHP's. But, if you're looking at these, it's worth spending a bit more to get the SHP9500's over the Black Shark's in my opinion. (Unless you can't do an open back headset) With that said, Next week Philips is launching the SHP9600's and the Fidelio X3's, however, the price is double the current models so I'm not really interested in them unless the prices come down to the current model levels.
While the USB sound card is pretty crap for the mic, after messing with the gain and EQ, you can actually get a pretty good sound from it. Better than the direct mic sound without any processing, anyway. They still should've used a better preamp that doesn't make the mic worse by default and that has more headroom, but the point is that it's possible to still get a better sound.
With which configuration did you end up for the mic (clarity, EQ, etc.)?
Does the Blackshark v2 X have a razer synapse configuration possibility? I am now able to detect it on razer synapse
8:54 good ole leg meta! Nice..
I was shocked when I saw that forbes posted a razer product within the best gaming headsets. So i had to come here and check it out! They sound pretty good!~ (plugged into the motherboard ofc yikes on that first impression.) Honestly i bought a gsp 300 a while ago and was so pissed off at the default quietness of the mic. I've completely ripped it apart since but now that i'm getting back into pc gaming. It's starting to look like either logitech g pro or this baby. Maybe both? Great video though. I like that you go into detail. Sick work bro.

@@User-gx3sr Yeah i had extensive time with both and went with the V2. What has you torn between the two? maybe i can answer any specific questions or concerns you have on both to help you choose.
OnMyGrizzle my main priority is reliability. I’m switching from Xbox to PC and I’ve been using some Turtle beach XO ones for about 4 years now, I’ve treated them poorly and they’ve really been thrown around. Despite all this they still work just fine. Coming from a headset like this I really want a headset that won’t break (note I will treat my next headset with slightly more care). I’ve been looking at the hyper X alphas as well, and almost decided on them until I saw multiple reviews on amazon saying they are REALLY uncomfortable. I play FPS so footsteps ect and soundscape is also something I am taking into consideration.
Got a deal on the V2, can’t wait to hook em up to my pc!
Question please! Do you need the sound card plugged in all the time or can you set the setting then just connect to controller
I'm sold when I saw the THX finally razer using their THX!!!!!!! like I've been waiting for them to do this and now they did
They made the right move testing it on a budget headphone first as well - a THX certified/integrated headphone for 60 bucks will fly off the shelves, very clever marketing.
Razer have been doing pretty good and took people's opinions this year and made great peripherals overall
Hello do these work with Xbox and Nintendo switch? I been looking for a gaming headset that I can use for both.
Leather earpads usually do better than fabric or velour in noise isolation and also keeping the bass in. How is the bass on both of the variants? Which one has a better thump?
Should've compared the v2x with the razer kraken 2019 model, both are 60$
I’ve been asking the same, also wondering if they sound better than the Arctis 3?
Razer is improving on almost every front, their new mice are top notch, the huntsman line of keaboards are good and a nice entry into custom keebs later on, audio is missing in the puzzle obviously and apparently they are addressing it too, hopefully they release a proper flagship, would be nice if they collaborate with an actual audio brand that does not have a huge presence in this market like Audio Technica or even Hifiman.
If you change the sound settings on PC can you use it on console?
thank you for helping to pick my next gaming headset
