  • As always, great video. Fantastic explanation on all the intricacies of the flight. This is a perfect video for someone like myself working on my IFR. I'm sure these videos are allot of work to edit. Thanks for taking the time, and please keep it up!

  • Great videos. You both work well together. Like to see the teamwork. And I liked seeing Mike make some radio mistakes. So many new pilots are afraid of saying the wrong thing on the radio, so they make more mistakes due to their own anxiety. But everyone is human and makes mistakes. Just make sure to correct yourself when you make a mistake. Keep the IFR videos coming!

Love the change in video processing to lift the instrument panel into clear view. A joy to watch inside and outside the flightdeck. Great CRM happening here. Looking forward to the next one

  • Answer to the question "why are the hands not on the throttles during take off and climb out"? In a jet we use a different system compared to single engine aircraft. Up the the decision speed on take off (V1) the hands are on he throttles to pull back in the event of a malfunction. Beyond that speed, there would be not enough runway available to stop on the ground. So the hands go off the throttles to overcome the temptation to still want to "pull back" at a too high speed. To avoid the throttles from creeping back (the reason why some flight instructors tech to keep the hand on the throttle), there is a friction lock. Happy Landings, Guido

    • My old company taught hands-off at V1, but right back on once airborne. We did a LOT of reduced thrust takeoffs and in the event of an engine failure, you could quickly add thrust if desired/required. Plus, in GENERAL, we were also taught that being the PF meant one hand on the controls, feet on the rudders, and the other hand on the throttles. Technique.

  • The sophistication of GPS/instrumentation certainly has changed the RNAV approach. Used to call them them the "two needle approaches". Taking an aircraft to minimums on an RNAV approach was definitely not for the faint of heart. Another fine video. Thank you for posting.

    @TheTemest@TheTemest10 жыл бұрын
    • Thank you! Precision of RNAV approaches is going up a lot. New aircraft fly LPV (localizer performance with vertical guidance) on the GPS and that brings you down to minimums of 250 ft! I have done these and it is just amazing. You have to trust in technology though. I see the ILS installation go away from the regional airports very soon as these are very expensive to maintain. More and more backyard airports get a GPS approach. Thanks for watching my videos & happy landings, Guido

I've learned with your vids about a lot of stuff and phraseology, which is the hardest part when i fly to the US because i'm not English native speaker, even though I'm level 5/6 in the ICAO test.The captain who I fly with has taught me a lot about flying in the US, It's kind of different than flying in Venezuela in the phraseology way. I have gone to KOPF, KFLL, KTPA and KMCO. Thank you for posting these good vids and i hope to meet you someday. Greetings from Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela.

    • I agree. IFR is nerve-wracking at first but it soon becomes fun. You have to stay ahead of the airplane at all times, of course, as the video shows. But there's nothing like busting out of the clouds and seeing that beautiful runway waiting for you!.

  • Great video, Thanks. I did see one gotcha though. The PM in his zeal to give the pilot report that the controller asked him to provide actually set himself up for a bust. He reported breaking out at 700 feet and then cancelled his IFR clearance while still technically in IMC conditions (700 ft ceiling). Silly technicality but I've read about pilots getting busted on this.

    @joenatoli3471@joenatoli34719 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Joe, you have a good point here. This was class G airspace and day time, so it is only 1 mile visibility and clear of clouds required. If it is sensible to cancel IFR - this is up for a professional debate. Happy Landings in 2015, Guido

      @arawakaero5344@arawakaero534410 жыл бұрын
    • tim mills Thank you, Tim. My understanding is that the part 135 standards are in some aspects even more strict than part 135. Part 135 is on demand charter, airplanes go to a lot of different airports, with much less infrastructure etc. So it looks like the FAA "does not trust" the part 135 guys and imposes strong rules. Happy Landings, Guido

      @GuidoWarnecke@GuidoWarnecke10 жыл бұрын
    • Guido Warnecke Totally understand Captain. Flying part 121 all the time can be quite boring. You bid your trip & fly the same city pairs for a month (or whatever the length of the bid-period). The same airports, crew members, hotels, food...for the entire month regardless if the crew members like each other! I'm sure you are familiar with the routine. Flying 135, you never know what is going to happen (to a certain degree). That in and of itself is exciting! Thanks again Captain.
