    • Indeed, both were heroes who loved life and had did their best to save it. That's why the Godzilla series will always be relevant for many years to come. Jonah and Emma may have been right about human nature's capacity for evil, but their unwillingness to see what they had become made them the very evil he sought he destroy as both versions of Serizawa show that saving humanity gives it hero that one could inspire others to learn not to repeat history. That's the Godzilla series is all about. He was the hero we needed, but never the one we deserve. While Ghidorah was the villain we deserve, but never the one, not even Earth needed. In many ways, the film showed a great parallel with the Dark Knight as Batman and Harvey Dent represented different circumstances in those events.

  • He was the only one who TRULY believed in Godzilla. Everyone else feared him, but Serizawa never did. He respected him. He understood him. In a way, I think Serizawa loved Godzilla. That's why he sacrificed himself to bring Godzilla back. As someone who's been a Godzilla fan all my life, this is how I always wanted to see Serizawa die - by Godzilla's side.

    • You must have watched Gojira 1954, where Serizwa dies alongside the king of monsters. And what is important, neither in 1954 nor in 2019 was he hostile to Godzilla because he understood the fact that both were victims of war - human pride, stupidity and striving for domination at all costs. I personally perceived Serizawa's attitude as compassion and the only right attempt at that time to alleviate the suffering that befell the great monster.

He respect Godzilla not because he's mighty, it's because he is an amazing lifeform beyond anything he has seen and understood him from learning how he live and behave, which is why he believes that coexisting with him was possible and he might become mankind's hope one day against a crisis that they can't handle.

When he had an emergency nap after fighting the male MUTO, he was visibly exhausted and even distraught. He realised what was happening and what Serizawa did for him. People need to pay attention to the movie before they start tearing it apart...

  • This will remain my most favorite scene in all of the MonsterVerse. Serizawa's sacrifice to save Godzilla, the ancient city, the music in this scene, Serizawa walking up to Godzilla and putting his hand on Godzilla's snout saying his farewell in Japanese, the slight smile he gives him seconds before the bomb explodes, the raw emotion of it all. It's perfect. By far one of the best scenes in the Godzilla Franchise. KOTM might be underrated to many, but it has heart and respect for the history of the franchise. And THAT'S why as time goes on, it will be recognized more and more.

  • I've read many of the comments here below this vid and here's my take on it. This scene for me is a very touching one, it shows the amount of love Serizawa has for Godzilla. One thing I noticed is when Serizawa places his hand on Godzilla's muzzle and they have eyecontact with one another, Godzilla has tears in his eyes. It's subtle but to me it shows recognition and understanding between them. When Godzilla resurfaces and sends his atomic breath into the air, it's obvious to me that the King is sending Serizawa heavenward. The amount of emotion here is unmistakable, to go above and beyond for a creature such as Godzilla, there has to be some sort friendship there. Godzilla is far more than just a simple killing machine, he's strong, he's fast, he's intelligent and shows how tactical he can be in a fight. He understands what the humans were doing to help him in the fight with Ghidorah. I just think some people don't the big guy enough credit when it comes to how much understanding, intelligence and emotion he actually shows.

Dude, if I'm gonna die by killing myself to help an "old friend" then I'm probably gonna be sad that, for one, I'm about to die and don't generally want to but have to and, for another, won't be able to see that friend again, at least for a long time. You just kinda jumped ahead and applied some thought or symbolism to the character's last moments and didn't really seem to try and put yourself in that situation. Best I can tell just from watching this scene and not even the entire movie is that he is saying goodbye to his friend because he is about to die, and that already hits hard enough where it needs to without overcomplicating it by being the bystander looking in.

While I kinda liked Ford, I kinda wish that the roles were reverse. And it was Ford that died at the beginning and Joe was the one that had to make his way back to San Francisco to his family, effectively making Joe the main character. It would’ve been a good twist to kill off Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Who you think is the main character.

They even say it in the film that it could take decades for him to get back to full strength. But he was in fact on the mend. You can't save someone, or something, when it doesn't need you to live. All Serizawa did was expedite the process manifold. But that's not "saving" anything.

  • Probably the first time anyone had ever referred to Godzilla as "friend". Seriously, Godzilla by all accounts has one dreary existence. He has no friends or even companions among the other Titans, barring Mothra of course, he is hated and treated as a menace by almost all of mankind, when he once lived in harmony with them, and he has lived hundreds of thousands if not MILLIONS of years of seclusion, loneliness and violence. Then, at his weakest point, a lone human courageously enters his lair (which is highly radioactive, might I add), places a nuclear device at his feet (his "medicine", you could say) and even places his hand on his snout, calling him "old friend". That must really move him. He always thought that humans would never accept him as they once did, and now he's getting just that- acceptance. To hear a human call him "friend" must be truly uplifting. Wouldn't you say?
