Apple recently introduced their new phones for 2020. Which, for the first time, include four different models. The iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max. Back in the early days, from the original iPhone to the iPhone 5, they only introduced one new model per year. But starting in 2012 with the 5s and 5c, Apple began releasing two iPhones. And in 2017, three new models. And their decision to release multiple iPhones has been met with some criticism. You’ll often find complaints on social media that buying an iPhone has become more confusing than ever. Since customers are forced to browse through several tiers of iPhone models with different features and prices, whereas Apple used to offer a one-size-fits-all solution that was much simpler for customers to understand. So in this video I’m going to explain why Apple went from releasing one iPhone per year to four.

    • @SuperSydneyPerson 1 But overall nothing has changed. Apple may has released slightly more devices in the last years but they also stopped selling older iPhone models. Previously, when the iPhone 6S was released for example, Apple sold the 6S, 6S Plus, 6, 6 Plus, 5S and 5C at the same time which makes it a total of 6 devices even back then. Today we have the iPhone 12 models, SE, XR and 11. So only 1 device more overall but MUCH more variety. Apple has a bigger catalog of different form factors, sizes and designs with 7 models than Samsung with all their 30+ devices

  • I like that there are so many phones, it kind of killed the trend of having the newest iPhone. So once everyone got confused about iPhones and there were multiple kinds, people stop having an eye for the newest. The confusion also made people more conscious about the phone. Instead of buying the shiniest model, people had to to think about what they needed. And after that, a good amount of people realized that they didn’t need an upgrade every year or even every 2 years. I’m not saying that sales declined but it really helped Apple convince people to focus more on tech than trend

  • I also believe another reason Apple released this many phones at the different price points is so they can shift their focus to services/subscriptions instead of hardware. People seem to keep their phones a little longer now, as there are many options now. Once Apple can get a customer into their walled garden they can keep them there by offering services that generate recurring revenue instead of relying primarily on new smartphone purchases.

  • I still like Apples simple strategy with Smartphone releases. 4 models, 3 sizes, all released at one point in the year. Not 20+ models with all the same size released every other year. The biggest joke even is that the entire iPhone catalog from the SE, XR, 11 and the new iPhone 12 models give users WAY more options for designs and sizes than the ENTIRE Android markets combined. Apple gives you 7 models, 5 different sizes and 3 different designs. Now compared to Android: literally 1000+ devices, all between 6.3 and 6.8" with about the same devices size, mostly the same "bezelless" design, ignoring all people that don't want notches, bezelless and gigantic phones.

    @Raja995mh33@Raja995mh333 жыл бұрын
    • Android has a much wider range of design than iPhone. Some Android phones have huge bezels, while some almost don't have them. There are some phones with smaller screens, but as most users don't want that, that's just a small category of Android. Considering that and the giant notch on any iPhone, and that they all look almost the same, your comment seems nonsensical to me. That said, I'm not interested in iPhone that much, and you don't seem interested in Android that much, so I'll just agree to disagree

    • @@megawonszrzeczny9 Sorry dude but here and there some minor changes like smaller bezels are NOT "wide range of designs". When iPhones are always blamed for "looking the same for four years" than the small differences that get ignored on iPhones, they're are also ignored on Android phones. Stop this hypocrisy bs and double standards. Most Android phones in fact DO look the same - especially from the front. And even stuff like camera bumps look closer and closer on Android. It's ridiculous to say that Android has a wide range of designs. They just in fact don't. And they have even less options when it comes to sizes, which was my main point dude. At least 95% of Android phones are literally the same size or bigger than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. There's literally not a single Android phone that even has the same size as the normal iPhone 12/13 - let alone the mini.
