If you haven’t already heard, Apple has given their iPod touch a minor update for the first time in four years. Its processor was updated from the A8 which first appeared in the iPhone 6, to the A10, giving it the same performance as the iPhone 7. Also, Apple added an option for 256GB of storage, which means this 7th gen iPod touch has the highest capacity of any iPod ever, including the Classic which offered 160GB of storage at its peak. Now that may not sound like a very news-worthy update, but what most people were surprised by aren’t the improvements made to the iPod, but that the iPod touch was updated at all, since rumors surrounding its discontinuation have been circulating for years. So why exactly is Apple still selling iPods in 2019? Well that’s exactly what we’re going to find out.
Thanks to Skinit for sponsoring this video!

  • Because kids don't need phones. They still need a device for games, music etc. An iPod provides them with everything they need. If they need cell phone connectivity for web browsing, downloading apps/music/games, they can tether to their parents phones. Parents can then control their usage. Anyone with a phone doesn't need an iPod Touch. Although some Android users say they like to have an iPod too.

Literally, you can backup so many songs from your iTunes library, insert all your songs on a 512GB Micro SD Card, and never have to worry about in need of iCloud Storage along internal storage being full. My s10e is 128GB internal storage, and tbh, I wish Apple would've presented Apple Users the microSD Card feature that most Android phones have for storing photos, videos, music and more. Only downside about my s10e is that App Store is better than Google Play Store; along likely to not receive additional software support ( iPhones receive up to 4-5 years of iPhone iOS support ) . I don't wanna be getting texts and what not while listening to music. I like having something that can handle all my music that I can use for only that reason without being connected in anyway.

    • Same here, but I'm almost 61, lol. I use it mainly for the music capability/storage, but it's also nice to be able to store photos/videos on it too. Like you, I hate when my music is interrupted by notifications of any kind, so I've turned all that stuff off. I still use the old iPod Touch 3 from '09 (64 gb) daily, and it works great in my car, and is also hooked up via Bluetooth to my workshop speaker (a Sony GTK-XB7). It's a kickass system that does everything I want from it and I can take it anywhere, yet still access the internet when I travel (w/o paying a $50 per month or more contract to do that). I love my iPod and have absolutely no need for a smart phone, so I think it's people like us that the iPod was created for.

He had a few android tablets before and generally used to hop to new brands when we bought a new tablet. The same happened with his clothes, and generally all the items, he didn't care about the brand enough to stick to it, but after I bought the iPad , this year he's begging for either and apple watch series 7 or an iPad air or pro, and even said to wait till the new apple launch event this year, rather than buy the iPad or watch straight on his birthday. I think an apple watch will be more useful, because he has gotten into somewhat small accidents before, when both of us were at work, and while they were somewhat small accidents, it's worrying about what could have happened.

  • I don't know about you, but I can't afford the $$$$ monthly fees charged by mobile phone companies. However, I get most of what I need WITHOUT the "smartphone" part, which I don'tt need. (I have a "pay-as-you-go" cellphone for emergencies which costs $100/year.) The fact that I can use it as a music player is a bonus, and there are useful apps, even if I don't waste time playing games. (Plus, iTunes doesn't have, say, Aidan James, Pure Heart, The Hawaiian Style Band, or Streetlight Cadence in the online store.)

  • Honestly I feel iPods are really great. I play Minecraft on my phone and it's already annoying enough with endless notifications and calls. If Apple will still support iPods, then it would be a good media device. They just need to make it slightly bigger with a bigger resolution.

  • Apple sells huge volumes of iPod touches to retail. The reason the form factor hasn’t changed is because companies have fleets of barcode sleds designed for the current size and shape. I have literally seen boxes of iPod touches shipped for this reason to warehouses, stores, stock yards, etc.

  • I wish Apple would relaunch the classic iPod with the thumbnail circle. With its minimalist interface for just songs (and maybe videos), it’s an iconic device. I remember when I was little, I always wanted to buy it but by the time I graduated, iPhones and other Android smartphones were already quite popular

  • Yay, the new 7th gen iPod is here! :D Edit: I just prefer how Apple continues to keep it affordable and not as expensive compared to flagship phones. Edit 2: But I kind of expected more out of this iPod that apple was making. (A redesign and stuff but it’s just a spec bump)
