I know! To the point of annoyance, but in all fairness, I think a lot of people/fans and casuals love watching him because he's an exciting wrestler. And admittedly, I love watching him too! The guy is a young lion! But sometime hunger isn't enough incentive to be fed. He'll eventually find his place on the international stage (maybe). J-Cox has been wrestling at this level for a minute and he's no one prey. He's probably the best defensive wrestler on the US team and outstanding at dictating pace.

Considering Bo weighed in at 87.7kg, i bet he would have went 86kg had he known David Taylor wouldn't be at that weight.
@richl25015 жыл бұрын
I thought that he was going to be that weight and always considered it was going to be the 2 Nittney Lions head to head.
@jeffdarnell79425 жыл бұрын
I think there is more going on. Im not sure when Nickal could have went down to 86, but clearly he could have made 86. Obv Taylor is going to 86 for the olympics, and Nickal vs Downey prob goes to Nickal. 92 isnt an oly weight, so Nickal doesnt want to grow into 92, specially if he thinks his future is 86. Nickal prob cant grow into 97 in time for 2020, and then theres the whole Snyder thing. So basically if Nickal wants to compete for olympic gold his path is 86 though Taylor. The last thing Taylor would want is for Nickal to get a bunch of world experience and paid training at the us training facility. So it makes sense that Taylor would keep Nickal in the dark about being injured. Then if Nickal medals at 2019 Worlds at 86 then the road for Taylor gets a lot tougher. People make the misconception that there is some kind of team mentality in the wrestling room, most of the time its brutal and cut throat.

That is freestyle for ya.
@robertchapman44885 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Was never fond of the NCAA push 20 yrs ago to increase action by breaking up every second of idling. And today, international is far worse than college. A lot of great set-ups require brief moments of stalling to pull off a technique, but refs are so heavily involved in forcing a continuous high pace. That ruins some tie-up and undertook scenarios, but then again, if we allow refs to use more discretion then it would likely worsen other aspects of the sport. I wish there was a high school folkstyle circuit for world class wrestlers. And why award so many back points for someone repeatedly gator rolling their opponents haha? I know why, to fuel the scoring system. It's stupid! Why is spinning the opponent on the mat 3 times almost enough to win by tech fall? It's easily the dumbest aspect of the modern scoring system. Back points/exposure should be rewarded, but why does rolling the opponent garner the same scoring? It's so illogical that I get worked up even talking about it. 😂 And this is coming from a participant and fan of over 4 decades.
@matthewhorizon60505 жыл бұрын
@@matthewhorizon6050 I couldn't agree more.
@jurrytaalib-deen97885 жыл бұрын
I disagree. You’re critiquing freestyle because you’re biased towards collegiate. What’s the difference between holding someone past 90 degrees with unlocked hands vs. getting a quick exposure with locked hands? Well, they serve the same purpose but represent scoring in different sports. The international scene appreciated the technique, speed, and strength required to turn an experienced opponent with a gutwrench or leg lace or crotch lift etc. Overall you’re biased towards collegiate and that’s ok. But don’t go saying one is better than the other in the grand scheme of things. Remember, both styles would get choked out or broken by a bjj black belt because it’s a different sport.
@mikemcnut3204 Жыл бұрын
@@mikemcnut3204 I never said or implied one style is better than the other; I just wanted to see them scrap a little more on the ground. And as far as BJJ being the superior system, like all wise fighters say, it depends on the person.

I think freestyle has some rules that make me cry, they're just the fuckin worst sometimes, passivity for having a hand on the mat, a threepoint stance is a valid and perfectly functioning technique, they call take downs way to quick cause that single was not in and I've seen more examples like that, and they fuckin dont sit you back in position which makes it to easy to A: tech fall someone since you can just take down turn and run them out of bounds without giving up 1 in an escape to restart that take down turn sequence, and B it makes everything else harder like pulling turns and escapes and really just mainaining any kind of momentum or plan since you're constantly up and down

Yes, Cox's sweating problem is an advantage, should be wiped down every 20 seconds.
This announcer is so in love with Bo
That's Flowrestling for ya. Any and all things PA.
People just following PSU the year Cox beat Taylor Cael, Cunningham, and DT threw a fit cause they didnt get a spot on world team. Very instrumental on destroying Cox and his reputation. That's what Cox was talking about after his victory over Nickal.
The announcers both took J'den in 2. They liked Bo but thought Jden was too much at this point. Check out the Flo Wrestling Podcast.
Dam I have never seen Bo lose. But you got to be an explosive beast to beat Bo. Bo will get better as he gets a little older.
Myles Martin beat Bo Nickal to win the NCAA title in 2016.
He's lost a few matches actually
Great VICTORY J'den way to wrestle smart. Way to compete. 💪🏾
Interesting to c bo in trouble cause all of his college stuff that I’ve seen he was in control of most of those matches
Yeah never once seen Bo in trouble he always dominated too
Jden is a beast...great wrestler, great person, great role model!
J’den’s wrestling has really hit a stride lately! He’s always been good, now though his technique is so sharp and he knows it. His upper body wrestling makes him one of the more exciting wrestlers currently at that level too.
"Truly on the level of Jden Cox but slightly beneath"...so not on the level...🤔
LMAOOO YES!
Im more of an mma/bjj fan but i appreciate the hell out of some high level wrestling and grappling. Ive watched Bo many times be so dominant, it was crazy to see him outclassed and more than anything overpowered by cox. Looking forward to seeing some of these guys make their way into the UFC/bellator/one championship. Not all of them do but the ones that do are typically dominant out of the gate because of their wrestling and grappling
Cox has some maturity on Nickal for sure. I do however worry about him on the international stage. Regarding Nickal, give him a few years.
kckcmctcrc Bo will never beat J’den. How long should it take for him to accustom to freestyle considering they are the same age?
Looks like he's arrived!
Bo Nickal: I cant wait to represent the US on my first world team. J’den Cox: Hold my beer! 😎
Had money Jden cox the whole time, he's such a beast. Bo has been dominating everyone tho so i can see why people had him winning
Amazing counter offense by J'den
Considering Bo weighed in at 87.7kg, i bet he would have went 86kg had he known David Taylor wouldn't be at that weight.
I thought that he was going to be that weight and always considered it was going to be the 2 Nittney Lions head to head.
First second camera action was dope.
I love how Cox understands that he has to be creative to score from neutral position at this high level and he does just that. Just a very simple Juke. Nothing weird About it fellas. Both wrestlers are incredible 👏

Different levels. You can for sure see it.
The ref stopped the action too many times. I would've loved to say some of those exchanges last a little longer.
That is freestyle for ya.
@@matthewhorizon6050 I couldn't agree more.
@@mikemcnut3204 I never said or implied one style is better than the other; I just wanted to see them scrap a little more on the ground. And as far as BJJ being the superior system, like all wise fighters say, it depends on the person.
Is it time for Bo to hit the weights or lower his fat percentage? I know he has a certain body type that hides his true strength... but he just does not look like any other world class wrestlers to me. I've watched Bo manhandle the best of college, but at the world class level, does Bo need to drop weight?
I've always thought he could wrestle at a lower weight
I looks like he has the frame that he could put more muscle on. He's probably surrounded by dumb coaches that think strength training too much will slow him down.

J’den is better at every phase than Bo
Bo is just a hair behind cox. No shame in that considering how big, strong and good Cox is.
Bo is too light- if you look at the first match, Bo couldn't pummel for position, or weather Jden's sprawl because he didn't have enough power. In this match he couldn't get his cradle for the same reasons. IDK if his power to weight is on par with Jden, but hes so much lighter it doesn't matter. He needs to do some serious bulking or cut down.
A hair? No way. Hes so far from being able to beat cox.

Bo is so much better but I used to be in the same room as him and he’s good
I think freestyle has some rules that make me cry, they're just the fuckin worst sometimes, passivity for having a hand on the mat, a threepoint stance is a valid and perfectly functioning technique, they call take downs way to quick cause that single was not in and I've seen more examples like that, and they fuckin dont sit you back in position which makes it to easy to A: tech fall someone since you can just take down turn and run them out of bounds without giving up 1 in an escape to restart that take down turn sequence, and B it makes everything else harder like pulling turns and escapes and really just mainaining any kind of momentum or plan since you're constantly up and down
