What New Secret Service Recruits Go Through At Boot Camp

We got an inside look at the United States Secret Service's intense, six-month basic training program. Senior video correspondent Graham Flanagan spent three days inside the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, Maryland, where he observed recruits at various stages of training.
According to the Secret Service, about one in every 100 applicants makes it through the agency's intense vetting process to become a recruit. The base salary for new agents and officers is $47,000 per year.
After spending three months at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in either Artesia, New Mexico or Glynco, Georgia, recruits return to Laurel for three more months of Secret Service-specific training.
Although we were allowed to film inside the academy, much of the training remained secret. According to the training center's deputy chief, Michael Buck, this was intended to avoid "giving people specifics into our protective methodologies ... we don't advertise our playbook."
UPDATE: In the video, we identify a car as a Dodge Challenger, when what is seen on screen is a Dodge Charger. We regret the error.

    • Yes, I agree it's amazing he listed them under noble professions. However, it kind of annoys me how he pretends that only the secret service don't get bad days. If a doctor, nurse, firefighter, ... has a bad day, people die. And it might not be as world-changing as the president of the US dying, but it's still unacceptable!

    • I would say its seems like marine boot camp is more physically stressful. You’re isolated from the outside world and you training the entire time. Sundays, only day off and you better clean be cleaning your rifle. CBRN, rollover, underwater, combatives, simulations..etc I would say there is no intense driving course like this in the marines. The difference, secrete service just seems to require that you have a proven high iQ. If you were in the military with proven leadership skills, and you have confidence in your intelligence. Then the course should be just fine, maybe even easy.

      @BoFries@BoFries4 жыл бұрын
  • It's much harder to get in the Secret Service than anything else. Not only do you have to be clean, your friends and the people you interact with on a daily basis, your family and those that interact with them, and so on and so forth; and so clean it's like opening a brand new and minted set of cards for the very first time.

    @baoge4591@baoge4591 Жыл бұрын
    • I'm guessing that you need work experience and even more references than the police require. Since only around 20% of secret service recruits are veterans, I'm guessing the rest of them are often guys with a few years of security experience, a few years of law enforcement experience, and a long list of work references from their colleagues and bosses.

  • 4:14 I'm so glad you touched on this. My business (and several others in the area) was getting hit with (really good) counterfeit bill's, and I always called PD after I caught the bill's when prepping my deposits, and nothing happened. After catching one of the suspects of the group in the act, and PD still did nothing (despite having them on video, and PD recognizing them), I looked into it, and found that it's technically the Secret Services jurisdiction. The next time it happened, I called the local Secret Service office, and they said they'd send someone over to collect the evidence. I was soooooo expecting some dude with perfect hair, cleanly shaven, wearing an immaculate suit, sunglasses, and an ear piece ... I got "Milton" from "Office Space" ... it was su h a let down

    • It is much more “chill” as you say, as Federal LE officers/agents aren’t training to engage into combat in a war zone with 80 lbs of gear while manning heavy artillery and calling in air strikes because your unit is pinned down by another country’s military (see the difference?) Training is pretty standard along federal LE pipelines (FLETC, compartmented, OTJ, etc). Movies are just movies. Law enforcement training differs greatly from military combat training. LE’s protect, defend, and investigate, but the military is a deployed combat offensive force. They’re really nothing alike.

That's very different compared to soldier and army/military. The secret service is involved with America itself almost like how cops are suppose to keep law and order. Secret service are to protect important people. Killing the president is definitely and can change the world and cause an uproar and issues within America.
