  • Hey Joe. I'm a cancer patient with low counts, and I get an epoetin alfa shot once a week to increase my red blood cell counts enough, to give a unit of blood a week for iron chelation. And the first few shots I had of it, were seriously crazy. It felt as if my blood was infused with oxygen, and gave me a serious oxygen high. Like I was drunk on oxygen. When your counts are super low for a long time, and you get a hit with a shot of that stuff, it's really crazy how great it is. And my doctor is super careful about my red blood cell count every time I get a shot. We HAVE to take a unit of blood, with every shot weekly, or my red cell count would get too high. Your blood being like 'paint' analogy was really spot on. I have iron overload, and the epo shot 'sucks up' iron in my body also, when your body produces a red blood cell, it requires two molecules of iron to make, keeping it from settling in my organs. And I give a unit of blood, to bleed me slowly and reduce my iron overload. Really interesting stuff. I suggest that UFC fighters be very careful with it, and don't overdo it. It might help you short term, but long term, it's probly not good for you at all, especially at high levels like DJ sounds like he was taking. Probly not a good idea.

    • I’m just going to inform you. When your body lifts weights, it tears the muscle. Over the next day your body recovers. It builds the muscle back even stronger, that’s how training is done. If you train the same muscle everyday (do bench press everyday) you won’t get stronger because your body needs time to rest. The way steroids like testosterone work is they make your body recover quicker, so you train more, and build more muscle. When he was saying it has some anabolic properties increasing recovery time, he saying this because he’s referring to anabolic steroids. He’s specifying this because epo is for endurance but he’s saying it also has effects like anabolic steroids So now you know what he meant by “recovering”

I've never heard of anyone using EPO during training, but in bicycle sports its used alot for those big races. Also, fun fact, the detection of EPO was once simply a too high concentration of red blood cells in the bloodstream.

Eerythropoietin (EPO) has neuroprotective activities that include suppression of cellular inflammatory conditions, inhibiting apoptosis, and improving cerebrovascular function, and it may enhance recovery by stimulating neurogenesis.... Refer Treatment of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3653382/ And even if the recovery time is too short for this to effect, somebody on EPO has energy to burn. So potentially keeping themselves out of trouble for their head to clear.

You could even find a video of Joe on here making an excuse for him about being on some type of medication. And it only makes more sense when he pops for masking agents clomiphene and letrozole the 2end time.
