    • It’s interesting how you compared riffing and melisma to tutting and voguing, cuz I did make the exact same comparison back then as well lol. Runs and riffs require 3 main components: pitch precision, melodic flow, and clear note separation. While dancing styles like tutting, voguing, waacking are very intricate and focus on the smallest details and body parts like fingers, wrists, palms, etc. They all take a whole lot of memorization, discipline and practice practice practice to make them perfect. I’d also compare ballet or hip hop to sustained legato in singing, cuz they both are very “straightforward”, focus more on bigger pictures. That explains why a sustained belted high note or a big hip hop routine would be very up in the face and looking/sounding big. But overall, when it comes to singing or dancing in general they all take hella hard work and discipline to become better.

  • I love your analysis about Irene and Seulgi's dance style! You nailed them down pat considering you just newly reacted to them. The moment you said Irene has ballet lessons I smiled cause she really is the most flexible in the group! And with Seulgi, I get what you said about her having a bit of a bounce to her moves. She's known to take every choreography and make it her own thus the choreo would always have her own flavor. Whereas Irene is more faithful to the choreo and it helps that she's super flexible so she can easily get the angles right 😁 Amazing thing is they both entered SM as non-dancers. So to get to this level, I can't imagine how hard they must've worked!

  • You got the names right. 👏🏻 Do not worry about making mistakes on their names, ReveLuvs are happy to help you with that. 😊 Seulgi is Red Velvet's "Main Dancer" and her moves are more into hiphop? Her vocals are also amazing and it is very rare for a Kpop Main Dancer (because Main Dancers are usually good at rapping). She could be Red Velvet's Main Vocalist if they don't have Wendy. While Irene is Red Velvet's "Leader" and "Main Rapper" so her vocals in this subunit is a wake-up call that she is more than just a pretty face and rapping. She is also part of the dance line of RV. If you're going to check out Red Velvet to know more about these two, it will be an unexpected rollercoaster ride for you. This subunit's concept is very different from Red Velvet. And every Red Velvet concept (every comeback, even the Red concepts and the Velvet concepts, or even every song in their album) is no way same from each other. Red Velvet's Title in Kpop so far: "Best Idol Group Alive" "Summer Queens" or "Summer Bosses" "Queen of b-side tracks" "First Kpop Group to perform in North Korea" "Most Versatile Group" "Irreplaceable Girl Group" "Nation's Pride"

  • Irene is sharp and elegant. She hits the moves and is able to isolate it in a very crisp way. Seulgi is more fluid and that "bounce" is like a slight extension of the move. It looks more animated because she extends beyond the move then settles back into place. It gives the moves an interesting energy in contrast to the incredible control Irene has. It makes them such a great duo.

  • How spot on you described their dance styles 😳 Irene‘s dance has always been very fluid and elegant but also very sharp when needed. And she‘s naturally very flexible so getting the angles right seems a bit easier for her. That‘s why tutting fits especially well with her style. However Seulgi is more trained in powerful dances. She also used to do more boygroup kind of dances as a trainee. And she usually puts her own touch on a dance so that‘s where the extra bounce might come from. But i‘m glad we got a performer‘s view on this dance. I‘ve been waiting for a proper and detailed analysis like this. You got yourself a new subscriber ☺️

  • This is why SM is a superb agency. They have their own colour while keep trying to blend and create a new colour in every comeback. In terms of concept, SM and Pledis always bring something fresh to the table. Other agency usually stuck with "safe concept", especially with their big, well-known and established group, it becomes boring.

This reminded me of a comment by a youtuber that cover all dance of a group and record them (I think she is called Ploopy or something) , but basically she said, the thing with Red Velvet's choreography is that it has a lot of gesture with their hand and that makes the choreo easy to get, but hard to master

  • "Tutting is HARD" THE FACTSSS! I, myself an experienced dancer and pretty much confident in any genre.. but tutting and breakdance. Breakdance is hard since im a girl and dont develop as much muscle as boys unless I want to make it. But tutting needs soooo much focus, concentration, good hands isolation, and patient. I only have pretty trained hands isolation... but learning tutting got me super tired coz I cant remember the sequences in a short time. I always excited with red velvet's choreography cut i wanna learn it. And then naughty released (: I'm not gonna make it. Props to my girls because they use more than 90% tutting in their choreography :') Not to mention they need to focus on vocal as well if they do live performances.

  • And yes it is mainly tutting since they did a lot of shapes by their hands. Some of it looked voguing since the genre got an inspiration from tutting. Tutting is indeed harder than how it looks because symmetry is one point of it and most of us are only dominant in one side. The execution of power and speed on right side should have the same delivery on the other side. Coordination. It's a lot of mental work tbh and imagine doing all of it without the mirror. A horror for beginners. It took them 1 month to learn the basics and the choreography was completed after 6 months according to their choreographer Shim Jaewon (who is also the choreographer of the iconic pre debut Be Natural performance of the duo, you should definitely check it out) and Spella. I'm assuming that when they said 6 months, the solo performances of Irene and Seulgi are also included since this Naughty video is just the first episode.

  • OH I love that you noticed and mentioned those 2 very specific yet almost hard to notice differences in their styles. As someone who trained a long time in ballet and before that did come jazz contemporary and lyrical etc before. I was like, did Irene do ballet because her isolation on her torso and how she moves her arms and legs coordination are creating beautiful lines. Lines and shape are a big thing in ballet. The leg snap u can tell she has great pelvic placement and it's just beautiful!! THAT SAID U SHOULD WATCH THE REMAINING TWO!! Episode 2 Irene and episode 3 uncover sung by Seulgi.

In addition, a new boy group called E’Last recently debuted and I’d be cool if you got the chance to react to their dance practice of their debut song “Swear”. Based on their live performances I can’t wait to see how they’ll evolve.

  • Yesssss! I was waiting for this reaction since I know it's gonna be lit! + the fact that you like precision, synchronization and coordination a lot ... Red Velvet really don't do the same thing twice, a lot of dancers who covers Kpop songs (from what they said in their reactions) already gave up trying to learn this insane choreo T_T so much intricate details uWu
