  • as someone who got my first drill last year and really has no clue what i'm doing, thank you for these tips! they might be common sense to people who grew up using tools but for those who didn't and have had no mentorship, this was really helpful.

  • My opinion. When you relax, take your time and maintain full control of your power tools. Your power tools will last twice as long. Read the manual or another brands manual that is more detailed. Use sharp drill bits when drilling holes. Dull drill bits waste time, will possibly overheat the motor, battery, gears and ball bearings in the drill. I'm a hybrid or transitional tool user. I enjoy both corded and cordless tools. I still enjoy using my very reliable corded electric drills. I actually like the, motor sound and the small internal carbon brush sparks. The fan blowing out of the vents feels good to. Grab and go. Cordless drills are awesome too as long as the batteries are charged. The clutch and ability to driving screws is amazing. I occasionally grab a screwdriver and enjoy the feeling that I drove in that screw by hand. Drill a pilot hole and use a tiny amount beeswax on wood screws threads. I personally don't like the cordless drill"s "electric brake " sound or noise. Internal parts rotating high speed are being stopped almost instantly. My opinion. If it sounds really bad and destructive it may not be very good for the cordless drill.

  • 2:25 nothing wrong will be done to the mechanism while we are stopping rotation ruptly - just normal electric breaking system stops the drill. The real damage to the gearbox is caused by clutching the gearbox from slow to fast speed while the drill keeps rotation or incomplete gear switching. That's the source of the most drill mechanism problem.

    • It is believed that carbon brushes wear out from a sudden stop. But I think it's easier to change these brushes more often than to waste time on a smooth stop.

  • You did not explain why you chose a Phillips #2, when you ended up using a PZ 3 bit in the first large screw. Why didn’t you start with a PH 3? It wouldn’t have spun out.

    @johnrobertson7583@johnrobertson7583 Жыл бұрын
    • True, maybe not that easily, but it would still be the wrong bit for the PZ screw.

  • As well as drilling a pilot hole near the end of a piece of wood I would also recomend countersinking it because without doing so the head of the screw forces the wood fibres apart; it's like driving a wedge into the wood. Whenever I want to join two pieces of wood together I always drill a hole in the top piece wood the same diameter as the screwthread, otherwise the top piece of wood is never really clamped tight to the bottom piece because the screw thead prevents them from doing.

    @johnwatson8192@johnwatson8192 Жыл бұрын
  • I'm going to add one more note that goes with the video itself I already know that you never ever ever had the wrong screwdriver bit with the screw could be slop it will strip the bit out clutch or no clutch and you are correct about the hammer mode never use it for screws and you most must have masonry bits you'll destroy regular bits. The only way my 27 years using cordless drills I've learned he is in a hex screw bit that usually either has a Phillips or Flathead secondary you can use the drill mode just be careful I wouldn't recommend that for a newbie or a homeowner someone in the trees and know what they're doing and know how to use the variable speed trigger properly yeah

    • This can be felt and seen when the screw has reached the desired position, especially if there are drilled holes. But it does take skill, especially on large fasteners where the final effort will twist the arm.

      @variablegoods7234@variablegoods7234 Жыл бұрын
    • The hammer function of a battery tool does not add anything to the torque rotation of the fastener. It is purely percussion from the end. That’s why it doesn’t matter if you use it unless you want to damage your drill.

  • I once used latex gloves operating a pillar drill. Can't believe I was so stupid. Unsurprisingly the rotating bit caught the glove, which began wrapping round, pulled my hand in towards the spinning bit. Got away with a small gash on the back of my hand. Gloves and drills=No! Get dirty hands instead 👍

I improved your message into proper english - "I will show this video to my father-in-law, who thinks that a the clutch in the cordless drill is not needed. He just puts it on drill mode and go. His wife has been telling me that he breaks the screes all the time, and still doesn't listen. I remember entering a contest and winning a Ryobi toolkit. I gave him the drill machine, and sold the impact driver, because he didn't know how to use it. Same with the circular saw, he never uses the adjustments or bevel angle settings. He just turns it on and cuts. I told him that he can get kickback if he keeps using the wrong level of the blade. I did this stuff for a living, so I know what I am talking about. But people just dont listen to me and keep doing the wrong thigs again and again. Just wanted to throw my two cents here, which might help someone out."
