In my experience you’ll never meet a bunch of more respectable lads, especially as a woman. I had to treat their minor injuries and fractures as a civilian overseas and wow, I’ve never been treated with such respect from anyone ever. Their parents should be extremely proud of these young lads.
They haven't been tainted by the influence of the "civilized" world to a greater extent. And their civility shows. It's the products of the "civilized" world that no longer feel the need to be or act or learn the need to to be polite. This is due to the nature of where and who they grew up with and parented them. They HONOR disciple, and their lethality, with a Humble, but ready frame of mind, They are less likely, actually, to debase their women and assault their children, until you start to reach into the upper echelons of society. It's because they truly realize and understand the value of the human being. It's also the attraction for foreigners to go "native", they wish to live in a world where living the ethics of right and wrong is more well defined and looked upon more as a character credit than a fools errand. I wouldn't mess with any of them; unless I had a horrific, terminal illness to exploit it with.

I had the pleasure of working with the Gurkha's in the Falkland's. I have never met a more polite, respectful and terrifying group of men in my life. Welcome to Australia and God bless.

I came back from Falklands (1982 but the war had finished) on the SS Uganda with a company of Gurkhas. I’d worked a lot with Gurkhas in mortar concentrations. And knew a little bit of their culture (never wash the wooden spoon!). But on the Uganda (a converted educational ship for kids so everything was small). The Gurkha lads would shower in 2s and 3s in the tiny cubicles. Just a different culture. They didn’t drink either so we got their tins of beer. They also caught trigger fish of Ascension and ate them. Working with these remarkable, smart, proud lads is a privilege.
My uncle did too. Head-hunters. He died a couple of years back and most his career is blacked. He said if i serve be with these guys, they will keep you safe.

The Gurkhas are very well respected in Singapore as part of our Singapore Police Force. Thank you for your service.

But Gurkhas and Royal Marines Commandos once had been ashamed by 3 infiltrators from KKO ( Indonesian Marine Corps Soldier) in Ganyang Malaysia Operation when Macdonald House ( South East Asian HSBC office ) could be blown up with bombs by only three KKO soldiers. In fact at that time Singapore were stritcly guarded by Gurkha and Royal Marines Commandos. It can be understood until Now, why Gurkha and Royal Marines Commandos never do joint training with Indonesian Corps Marine ( Korps Marinir Indonesia ). Only Korps Marinir Indonesia has long range strong and extra ordinary swimmers and divers can do long range infiltration by sea for at least 40 Km or at least 25 miles without stopping. We usually call it " Renang Selat Sunda or Sunda Straits swim ". Can Gurkhas and Royal Marines Commandos do it? I still doubt they can do it as well.
@@Eatenslapen69 One failure does not mean they're worthless. Not to mention, Indonesia lost the Konfrontasi and never really had the advantage during that conflict. Yes, Indonesia did a lot of damage but never were outright looking like they were going to win.

My elderly father went hiking into the forest in Singapore, and got lost for 3 days. It was the Gurkha jungle trekkers from Singapore police force who went into the woods, combed the area and saved my father. I have utmost respect for these professional military men, my father still lives today because of the Gurkhas. Thank you all.
When was this? There was a incident where teo youngsters were also lost in the woods and the Ghuka soldiers were involved in their search

also nepalese families near the barracks in london are the nicest people you could meet.

An American playfully unsheafed a gurkha kukri The gurhka explained that once the knife was unsheafed It had to draw blood So the american suffered an arm wound to satisfy them!
My grandad served with these soldiers in WW2 in Burma.Spoke so highly of them

What more do you want for them? A personal butler and a chef? Gurkhas have been paid the equivalent of UK soldiers for years now. Have full rights to live in the UK if they want, as many of them do. Where do you get your ignorance from?

If it was that bad for the veterans them would not apply in such numbers. These days, it's the vets that are used for recruitment.

These tiny chaps are head and shoulders above their foes primarily because they stand atop their fallen bodies. In a very polite and uniform manner 👌
In 1989, I had the amazing experience of visiting your regiment in Church Chrookham. I was in the Danish Royal Life Guards who sent our company over to you, and you sent one of your companies over to us in Denmark. Your soldiers were very friendly and absolutely very professional. It was an experience I will never forget. You were amazing hosts and I thank you for your friendship.
Absolute respect to the Gurkhas. They are the official definition of ‘well hard’. We love and salute you!

One word to describe the Gukha's, Legends!
I grew up in Fleet, walked past the Gurkha Reg. every morning on the way to school. They were always friendly and kind when we saw them, we sometimes played football with them. If you ever meet a Civ Gurkha the are calm, polite and respectful....but deep down we all know just how impressive and devastating a force they are. I'll never forget the times they came to our school and did landing exercises with blank, smokes the whole bang. IF you know when, how and why the Gurkhas joined the British Army, you know why they deserve such respect.
These men have earned the respect and honour of the British people. They have our hearts. Proud of all of them 💖💖💖💖💖💖👌👌👌👌
I have never met any, only ever seen Gurkhas in Hong Kong around 1989-90 when I went there in the RAN. Their exploits are absolutely legendary, and I’m so glad they are training here with the Australian Army and US Marine Corps! 🇦🇺🇬🇧🇺🇸

Total and utter respect for these amazing men who are the most polite and respectful but also one if not the most feared fighting men in the world. They are absolutely true warriors and will fight and overcome right to the very end without fear, they provide the fear and rightfully so. Thank you for your service gentlemen and from an old British veteran I salute each and everyone of you.

Fantastic people, everyone who has messed with them in the past has either regretted it, ran away or hired them.
I have mates in the ADF who told me about the Gurkha years ago, they're genuinely venerated amongst professional solders like few others. Hardly surprising TBH, when you have guys like Dipprasad Pun (who took out 30 or more Taliban by himself) in your ranks - that evolves to legendary status pretty quickly. It also makes me grateful to Joanna Lumley for campaigning to ensure these guys had proper rights to retire to the UK if they wanted to, it was bizarre to me that they previously couldn't especially given that they'd served so remarkably in the defence of the country. This is historic tie that we should preserve and protect at all times. I genuinely pity an enemy who ever sees Gurkhas heading towards their trench... better hope your next life works out better than this one.

Excellent video, highlighting the Mt Bundey training area- most British exchange soldiers are a bit blown away by the size of our training areas, especially when it is possible to fire out to full ranges, and that is without obliterating some English village 18 km away! The Gurkhas would be absolutely lethal in CQB with those khukris, I was thinking that when they were doing entry exercises in the MOUT facility. AYO GURKHALI!!!!!
To be fair, I guess that is because your country is MASSIVE in size, so space isn't an issue. Haha

I’m very proud my Dad was a RSM in the Gurkhas he loved his men as his own,he told me biggest mistake in his life when he resigned his commission and left them he regretted it till the day he died.
We indians are super lucky to have these polite badass warriors ....They do missions so much professional...just them coming breaks morals of many hardcore fighters
My Grandfather fought in Burma during world war 2. He spoke only once of his experiences and on that one occasion mentioned that the Gurkhas were the most elite warriors he'd ever fought with. Very glad those soldiers are on our side!

In the 1990's a Gurkha Company was on exercise at the Puckapunyal Range in Victoria Australia. I was in RAEME (Royal Australian Electrical Mechanical Engineers) and when out on the range area on a job, my Corporal and myself came across some of the Gurkhas who were with one of their support vehicles (a borrowed Australian Land Rover) that had broken down. We quickly got their vehicle repaired and operational again and went on our way. I don't how they found us, but a few days later we were greeted by a couple of Gurkha's with their Official Exercise polo shirts to present to us as thanks for assisting them. Great blokes and very tough soldiers.

Gurkhas are hard core. They have been leading the charge in the British Army for a long time. They are one of the most respected units in the world.
I was working at US Embassy in Kathmandu and was given a Gurka Knife back around 1982. It was just made.

I remember a story my grandad used to tell me on occasion about my great-uncle Arthur. During WW2 he was captured and tortured by the Japanese forces who were assaulting Burma at the time, after spending months in captivity (starved and beaten) he was eventually rescued by Gurkha commandos. He said that Arthur had never seen such a professional and daring group of soldiers in all his life, they essentially nursed him back to life in the middle of the forest until he was fit to travel back to where allied forces were situated. Arthur used to say that that despite being mountain people, they could adapt to and survive in practically any environment. He used to talk about how they would be able to tell which side you belonged to based upon how your shoelaces were tied, and "god help you if they weren't tied the way they preferred" is something he used to say a lot.
Absolute warriors. Probably one of the last true warrior class/cultures we have left. Extremely happy they are on our side. The stories about this group sound like something out of mythology but....its real.

I had the honour of being friends with some of these little guys I was on the same barracks as them in Aldershot years ago you cannot meet a more honest and respectful group of men they are small in stature but giants in bravery and courage they used to love torturing me with their curry nights I'm Scottish and can't handle a tikka never mind a ghurkas curry by the time I had finished the curry they would all be in tears they love us Scottish as we are classed as highlanders like they are I will always love and respect the men of this great regiment thanks for your service ghurka rifles I hope Britain honour you all the way you should be it's about time we recognised the blood and tears these men have put into the protection of this country godbless and protect them all

Mountainous regions produce the best warriors across the globe, but Gurkhas man. Ferocity and professionalism combined. Our enemies can dread them, run from them, but Gurkhas will get them all the same
I spent 15 months with 2/2 GR in both Hong Kong and Korea. It was the highlight of my 21 year career!

It's a honour for the family to be chosen to serve, and then after years of unwavering service they are treated terribly and have to fight to stay in the country they've served with distinction.

These guys go through a huge selection process just to be selected from the overwhelming number of young men desperate for the privilege, income, and other enormous benefits, of the Ghurka position. Their training and physical abilities would make them naturals for SO training.
Saw them hiking in the Brecon Beacons once and stopped for a chat. Very polite and professional men.
I have a love for these soldiers that is born from 'I know not where' - its hair raising stuff to witness our Gurkha soldiers in effect. I am proud and admire them all.
Damn glad that these men are on our side. I hope that the Gurkha rifles know what high regard the ordinary British person holds them.
How can we forget that they become what they are now after a gruelling selection process and 9 months of training. Jai Gorkhali! Jai Nepal! 🇳🇵

I work at a lot of events where the SIA staff are mostly ex 2nd Rifles Gurkhas. Nicest bunch of blokes I've ever met !

When they were doing UN missions they used to go into marine camps and tie the shoelaces while the marines were sleeping. Imagine the level of stealth Also the legend is that if the khukri is unsheathed, it has to draw blood, so they probably cut themselves slightly. Always fun and terrifying to read their stories
It's common practice in our Hindu religion.
I was a mortar man way back in the 1980's, the basics are pretty much the same but the equipment and ammunition has advanced considerably making morta men more lethal and effective.

Yea the Gurkhas are people who don't talk too much they keep to themselves they are not like other regular people who like to boast or showoff their capabilities and achievements.They have alot of achievements but they don't go around telling people

Es gibt keinen besseren Kameraden als die Gurkhs ,habe 4 von den Kameraden als ACW im GGS der Bfg kennen gelernt sie waren immer korrkt wenn mal obwohl man sie kannte und en Ausweis kontrolieren musste , nie hatten wir Probleme , was man leider von den anderen nicht sagen kann. Außerdem gibt es bei der Truppe noch Ehre , was mehr als selten ist in einer Armee. Thx for your Service Fellows .Was ich so nicht wusste ist das sie die AUG haben [oh lag falsch , das sind die AUSIS wie wir sie nannten ), dachte immer das SR80 sein die StanWaffe.Mein Arbeitswerkzeug war der 120mm Mörser für 8 Jahre beim Bund , 89-97.THX to the CO for the nice Words , you dont get these Words not often from an CO , like he said it you can see it in his Face that this is real what he sayd and not only from Paper coming .
Royal Gurkha's still don't get the recognition that they deserve from the first world war. My great grandfathers both served alongside the Gurkhas in the 'Black Watch' & 'Seaforth Highlanders' regiments. I have diaries describing the courage and ferocity displayed by the Gurkhas (Although the language used was more 'colourful' back then).

It was my absolute privilege and pleasure to know and work alongside Gurkhas during my time in the Royal Corps of Signals. To visit their homeland in 2009 was a life goal achieved.
I wish the cultural climate in the United States was receptive to the idea of incorporating Gurkha elements into our ground forces, instead of dismissing or disparaging that idea.
Gurkha's saved my grandfather's life when he was participating in operation chindits. I pity the enemy that has to face these men in combat.

A VC was awarded to a Gurkha who had his hand and arm blown off and still held off waves of enemies and 31 bodies were found around him. Hard as nails.

I remember visiting a local businessman whose life had been threatened, he’d employed retired Gurkha’s for protection, one was stood near the front gate to his farmhouse, he was about five foot tall, in a high viz vest and was very polite letting me on to the premises, he had a very disarming smile but I thought, I would not like to upset you…
In any bad situation if you have the Gurkha Rifles by your side you know you'll be at an advantage. The most profesional soldiers to have had the chance to worked with. All the best to them.
They are the bravest of the brave. I have known them in Afghanistan and Hong Kong . Just count the number of VC's.

From what I hear/see/feel - these Gurkhas simply do not eff around on the battle field. Lots of stories of valor coming from the Gurkhas. Hats off to you Sirs! From a New Zealander.
My late grandfather was in the British Army in WW2, he served in middle east and Italy. I remember he told me a story as a child on how the Gurkha's used to sneak to German lines and tie their shoelaces together for fun. True Warriors!
