The thing that killed me was the idea that a person who spent thousands of hours meditating in monasteries, yet he literally could not sit cross legged without his knees being high in the air.
Plus, the guy can't control his emotions...
Also keeping his shoes on indoors all the time. You don't wear shoes in a monastery. Also being the only one keeping his shoes on in those dojo shots, looool.
What bothers me is how after all this time, comic books still can't tell the difference between Chinese martial arts and karate/ninjas.
@@Xannyphantom905 Well you have Chinese movies showing the same tropes used in "Ninja Movies" aswell. The thing is, that both are closely related and mixing them up is thus even easyer. Karate was developed from Southern Shaolin Kung Fu and most people can't differenciate them anyway, so people usually sadly don't bother to do it in their comics and stories that well.
I can't remember any scene of him sitting cross legged, so my question would be what do you mean exactly with "high in the air". I train Hung Gar and we stretch them down for various purposes, but when sitting cross legged normally, the knees don't touch the ground and also we do not turn the feet up like some people tend to do.

He was so very level-headed, complete grasp over his abilities and more of the Danny Rand fans came to love from the comics. Just proves that it was indeed the writing part of this series that went wrong.

One of my favorite parts in Defenders was when Stick called Danny "Thundering Dumbass."

All jokes aside, Ward was imo one of the very few highlights of the show. The actor did an amazing job and I really liked his development (that scene in S1 where he and his sister talk about him needing a break had me in tears, but then again, I'm a burnout risk patient so maybe it just hit close too home)
I just watched the two seasons of this show. Season 1 was ok, Season 2 was horrible. The only redeeming quality of season 2 was Ward’s character development.

You guys didn't mention how the protagonist is always saying "Kunlun" and "when I fought AND DEFEATED the Kunlun dragon" but we never see a flashback so it feels like he's just boasting.
And yet they keep showing flashbacks of the plane going down! So clearly they had time for a Kunlun dragon flashback. I swear you could take a shot for every flashback and get tipsy. Get drunk everytime he says Kunlun
Yes, and everyone thinks he's crazy because he says it. A smart character would realize that he's not helping people with that, and instead say something like, "I was in a plane crash and rescued by a group of Tibetan monks. It's taken me a while to get back. I did learn some Kung Fu while I was there though."

@@maggiemcfly5267 He signed a vague 5 picture deal with Paramount studios, its not quite the same thing. At least in a Marvel film, you know what character youre signing up to play. With this, he got assigned to projects without knowing anything about them. Im guessing he signed the deal right after Step Up, thinking it would help his career, not knowing the studio would be in such control. Studios are known for making these types of predatory deals with new actors. Hes been pretty open with how much he hated being in the GI Joe films. (and I do mean predatory. the actors dont have bargaining power for the paycheck they get, and a couple of actors got hurt on the set of GI Joe.)
He told interviewers that because of his tight schedule he could only train for 15 min and that's why he became that good...yup that's how martial arts work.

As much as don't like the series for pretty much ruining the Iron Fist lore (The Marvel TV and Buck did again with The Inhumans, and the before that with Dexter, LIKE DAMN!) for many new eyes, the second season TRIED to redeem it, but it was a bit too late... Hell, even had a hype cliffhanger. Out of all the Marvel Netflix shows though, Iron Fist was the first one to get a trailer, what a world.

Yeah, the Luke Cage/Iron Fist team up episode somehow ended up being a highlight for both characters.
Season 2 started okay and ended like crap. Iron Fist is one of my favorite characters and this is what they gave us. But if I think about it, season 2 of every MCU show was kinda bad. I can't remember anything from Jessica Jones S2 and most of Luke Cage S2. Even Daredevil S2 isn't really jumping out. Defenders was okay though.
Best episode in whole luke cage series as well. A Buddy action series with them would have been waaaaay more entertaining

I did actually watch season 2 - still not sure why, because season 1 really was execrable. But season 2 was so much better, I can't even give an accurate assessment of the quality because just thinking about it gives me whiplash. It helps that roughly two thirds of the season consisted of all the other characters telling Danny how thoroughly he'd screwed up, and then going off and fixing stuff while he lay on a couch looking sad. Also, it gave us the Daughters of the Dragon team-up we didn't know we needed. The real tragedy of season 2, though, is that Alice Eve gave an absolutely brilliant double performance as Mary/Walker, which was watched by a grand total of eight people and a handful of dogs whose owners had left Netflix running while they were out at work.
This. Season 2 was so good I actually was disappointed when it was cancelled. I wanted to see more of Collen Wing as the Iron Fist and all the other team ups . 😵

Agreed! I watched season 2 and it was a drastic improvement without Scott Buck. It just couldn't get back from the damage already done though. Mary Walker was also an excellent addition to the season. I heard strong rumors that Iron Fist might be included in a Shang Chi sequel, so let's hope that we can get some true Iron Fist back.

Jessica Henwick was the only actor that made this show watchable, so I’m glad that was pointed out. She gave her all as Colleen, in both her physical and emotional performance. I wish she was in more films.

Yeah can't believe they did nothing with him, he is a very talented actor. He was phenomenal in banshee.
His name is Tom Pelphry; he was also in Season 3 of Ozark and was absolutely fantastic. He won an Emmy for another show in 2006.
He was my favorite part of the show.
"You know, I think this season 2 episode is the only time in MCU history that a hero has tried to stop a villain's evil plan with a dinner party. The Avengers should've tried this with Thanos!" It's now my headcanon that T'Challa did exactly that in "What If...?" episode 2.

See, gotta be honest, I loved this. Because miscommunication is a TERRIBLE plot motivator. There are so many hero/villain relationships that could be solved by just sitting down and talking about it. And having a scene where they try to do that shows that, actually, the show is crafting a good hero/villain motivation. Because it can't be resolved by just sitting down and talking it out, there are genuine issues that need to be resolved.

Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing was the best thing to come out of this show. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she makes it into the MCU.

The thing that makes this criminal, is that it was done SOOOOO much better in the comics. The back story, plots and themes were already there. But instead they jettisoned all that and did... this.
The main reason I refuse to watch it
they may not have had the budget for the tournament, but damn they could have done soo much with the immortal weapons. instead they had to set it all in NY, use NY characters, and concentrate on trying to Avenger-fy it by building it up to part of the Defenders. I really like the happy-go-lucky Danny we get in the first episode but then they go make him all dour and 'i'm not worthy'. groan. But yeah, considering how Brubaker/Fraction were absolutely killing it in the comics, it makes this an even bigger tragedy.
ironic part is that IF had more time to make a story happen than the movies but they couldn't be bothered to read the comics

By the 3rd season they fixed a few things and it got better but it's still average, imo I think it's not too late to safe the show. But it's gonna be hard.
This would have been even better if they had just had it star Coleen Wing and Misty Knight and called it Daughters of the Dragon. Although season 2 was "better".

If people did watch season 2, they would know it was a huge improvement over the first. It wasnt as great as Daredevil but it was competent

I think I watched S02.... I think. The entire show was so forgettable that I only remember how awkward Finn's martial arts movements were :\ If you even want to call it that

This is perfectly accurate & therapeutic in the way it makes us laugh about all the wasted time. XD
What was sad is this was and still is one of my favorite comic book characters.
The things that probably bothered me the most were the terrible fight scenes with more cuts than someone who died by Death by a Thousand Cuts and the ‘there is magic but there is no magic’ approach.

There were a lot of problems with this show but for me the biggest issue was the terrible acting. Most of the cast were soap opera-level actors (in some cases, quite literally) and just could not carry a scene to save their lives. Rosario Dawson and Jessica Henwick were the only two actors who actually gave good performances.
Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing) was the best part of the entire series. Followed closely by Tom Pelphery (Ward). Then Season 2 was a big step up from the travesty that was Season 1, and they made Danny likeable and gave us Typhoid Mary (played excellently by Alice Eve).
7:06 "Can she and Finn Jones witch paychecks?" That's the most succinct, honest take I've ever seen on this show.
It's not really fair, though. Finn was done dirty by the production.
