Why Marijuana Could Help Save Veteran Lives | WEEDIQUETTE

2024 ж. 19 Сәу.
147 213 Рет қаралды

America loses an average of 22 Vets a day to suicide. PTSD is often treated with a myriad of pills. While many states have legalized medical marijuana, the federal government has not, so the V.A. can't recommend it.
This episode of Weediquette first aired on VICE TV in 2016. Weed laws in the US have since changed.

I should note that those who think of ending it are not "taking the easy way out." They simply do not want to live in pain and without hope anymore. It is anything but easy.

If you tell them you smoke weed, they might mess with your medical record by saying you're an addict and they might try putting you through rehab. It's a stupid game they play - at the end of the day, these young and old doctors are literally just trying to justify their continued existence so they can secure that paycheck (they paid alot of money and time to get their degrees)

We all know the definition of sobriety but only people in recovery know what it really means. I don't mean to seem dramatic, it's just that deep. Anyone can feel free to call out a recovering heroin addict for falsely claiming sobriety whilst smoking cannabis. It's not going to take anything away from them, just the same as it won't take anything away from me. We know what it means to us. You dig what I'm saying? It's deep. • There IS therapy. There IS help. The VA is no different than the military itself in that if you want it, you’re going to have to go get it. You’re going to have to push for it. I, too, am a combat veteran and I, too, suffer from a lot of the same problems and issues. The alcoholism, the drug addiction, the benzodiazepines, the antidepressants, the anti anxiety medications, the terrible sleep, the handful of pills twice a day, the marital difficulties, and the suicidal ideation and attempts - all of it. I still have really bad days, but the VA assigned me a great psychologist and psychiatrist and, initially, I endured (?) intensive therapy twice a week for 20 months in order to survive MYSELF. Nothing and no aspect of VA’s care is without flaw, but each of us as veterans owe it to ourselves to make every effort to find that part inside of us that is the fierce warrior we once were on the ground and do battle - put in the real and serious work - with the “things” destroying us from within. Stay in the fight, brothers and sisters, because YOU are worth it and worthy of it.

  • I have done a long term PTSD study with 2001-2006 OIF/OEF veterans. I had 500 in the first group. As of this time five(5) have been confirmed to be among the living. There might be a few more, but about 490 out of 500 are now gone. Lost to the nightmares of untreated PTSD and lack of care and empathy. The ones that still survive all consume marijuana and various psychedelics. From self reporting, all of them stopped most if not all of the VA psych meds.

This is a great video, but presenting the VA as useless pill-pushers isn't fair. I've had nothing but excellent service from them

    @commodorescott1@commodorescott125 күн бұрын
    • I'm a combat but myself and I did cognitive processing therapy with the VA the VA prefers that you do counseling for PTSD and pills are not really recommended. The guidelines change all the time and I read the 2024 guidelines and there are only two medications that are not FDA approved for PTSD but the VA even recognizes may help PTSD, however the VA recommends talk therapy as the first line prescription over the pills. a lot of these veterans just aren't willing to do the actual hard work and would rather complain about the VA and those cases a lot of times the VA does overprescribe the pills because they're just getting desperate to help the vets who are not even trying to help themselves.

You have plenty individuals at VA who have their own biases they should leave at the door, but va wants you to be open without fear of reprisal. The only situation the will have an issue with and this depends on the doctor even, is if you sign a contract for opioids or another controlled substance.

I was on 11 different medications when I started my journey through the VA 3 years ago. I spent the last 8 years in the criminal justice system. I am finally out. I also spent 284 days from July 28th until recently in jail for a crime I never commited..I was found not guilty at trial.. I lost everything. My house.. my belongings.. im currently homeless like I have been for the last 8 years. I had a house for 6 months before the class c felony that I was fighting. 40 years of my life was going to be taken away from me. I wish I had a civil lawyer right now to take my suit to federal court. I have my medical marijuana card but its illegal in wisconsin.. I lost so many people .. I lost my kids because of my ptsd.

Almost All the stuff in this video it was very misleading. For one VA does not use opiates to treat PTSD either used to treat pain over prescriptions for PTSD the reason they resort to given so many veteran prescriptions is that some veterans are hardheaded and not willing to do the work. This is also an older video it looks like and a lot has changed since then.

Wish this could have helped people in other wars like Vietnam, because maybe I could have seen my grandfather because he sadly killed himself because thought he had brain cancer or something wrong with his brain. He just had severe ptsd. He watched his best friend die in combat and would when having freakouts pull his gun out on my mom. From all the stories I heard from him before and after war he was a good man and just had his moments. If it was legal or for medical use back then I wonder if he would still be alive.

  • THC has been one of the most healing plants on the planet for my life. It made me so sad to see Danny suffering so much, he’s lost everything and to hear him say he wouldn’t do anything to “break the law” and it’s just that all of these processes and procedures we have created around healthcare has caused us to lose the person in the treatment of pushing drugs and money across a billion dollar industry. We know that pharmaceutical companies have been abusing us for years. They have proven that they cannot be trusted. I’m from Michigan, and our state has been leading the way in recreational and medical weed and I’m an advocate, I hope these vets can obtain the health they so desperately deserve.

If I drop something my body kicks in and jerks away, but before PTSD I would easily grab and catch things and react properly and it is so frustrating. I cannot fathom what that man went throught but I truly hope he finds finds peace and reconnects.

  • There are many jobs in the military that can cause PTSD even if you are not deployed. It is hard to explain to people that you've never been deployed but you feel the a lot of the same emotions that guys that have are experiencing. I was a 15P in the Army and it changed my life in so many ways I couldn't even begin to explain them all. ATC has the highest suicide rate in the civilian marketplace much less the military field. I wish soldiers would support soldiers but the skepticism I have felt from others has caused me to completely withdraw myself from society and avoid others that say they want to help when they really just go to work to collect the paycheck. The VA has tried to gaslight me and denied my claims over and over and veterans have to pay for the appointments to satisfy the VA. The whole system just feels like a business designed to make the most money off the back of veterans, not to help.
