Making the perfect fried chicken as we know it - juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside - used to be a luxury. But a man named Harland Sanders changed that after mastering his own recipe - inside a gas station.

He ended up hating KFC when they changed the recipe after he sold it. He compared it to wet newspaper. You probably didn't cook the chicken he worked so hard to formulate.

It is sad that Kentucky Fried Chicken is gone. When they changed to to KFC they shortcutted everything from the way the Chicken was deep-fried to the way the mashed potatoes were made. I was fortunate to have worked at a Kentucky Fried Chicken in the early 80's.
I always hear about how it used to be. I was born in 87 and KFC was never ever the go to spot for fried chicken.
It is still Kentucky Fried Chicken here in Frederick Maryland.

I love Kentucky Fried Chicken as I did growing up in the 70's which I still like the orginal recipe. I wish they still sold dinner rolls vs biscuits and wish still had baked beans too.
I miss the baked beans.
I forgot about the dinner rolls.
They sell diner rolls here in saudi arabia
The standards have dropped so far
Miss the chicken livers and buttermilk.
I can remember my Dad in the 70's, bringing home a bucket of KFC. Its was great. Today...the chicken is not the same. If the Colonel was alive..he would shut them all down. Just not the same !!
They have modified it a lot through the years. You can try to replicate the original recipe if you like
You could probably say the same for all the franchised fast food outlets I bet McDonald’s was better back then too
Even though it's not the same at least we still have it. I grew up in the '80s and it's definitely not the same I mean I think it's gotten saltier. My wife and I went there for the first time and quite a while a couple of months ago and I just think it still had a lot of the same flavor I remember but I just remember thinking it was a lot saltier than I remember.
The coleslaw is now non existent and the gravy sucks now too. I loved the coleslaw!

@Devilry Games You forget he had many more years than that cooking fried chicken conventionally. Once he perfected (or optimized) the pan fry method, he had all that experience going into the the pressure cooker method.

Unlike any other competitor, whose chicken can be easily replicated at home, KFC has stood the test of time. To make it at home, you have to get the seasoning right(which is still a secret). That's not just a mystery (though some have gotten mighty close), but also is a question of the adhesion. It has to blend into the flour perfectly also. Then, you have to cook it right. The cooking time has to be precise. Most of all, you have to have a pressure cooker. Good luck on that; they're expensive, hard to set up, hard to clean, and hazardous if you're not careful.
It seems to me that life is lived in the spaces between the "ups." That's where the adventure is and Harlan Sanders always was grateful for wherever he was.

Yup most people around now never tasted real KFC. It tasted nothing like now. There was literally no better F chicken anywhere. It was so juicy and tasty, it went bad around early 90's. The mash was actual potato, fresh corn, and the biscuits were fluffy. People don't realize that the horrible fast food of today got popular because it used to taste better than gourmet.
