  • 3 compartment isn't really needed anymore. It was used for power, data, and telephone. Nowadays, we don't run telephone cables as mostly it's VOIP so we use data sockets for IP phones. So really we only need 2 compartments but 2 compartment trunking looks a bit weird as sockets aren't in the middle. (You can get 2 compartment trunking)

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts… some great points 👍🏻

      @efixx@efixx Жыл бұрын
    • Data and telephone still used the same UTP cabling so that argument doesn't really hold any weight. I would argue that having two outer compartments is important for being able to run the large number of data cables required for a busy office with many dozens of network points.

    • @@davepusey what I mean is that in the old days, telephone cable was different to data cable. I get that you need the space but if there were 2 compartments only, it would be easier to run data in 1 and power in the other. You actually need more space for data than power as data is 1 cable per point whereas power is daisy chained. We often run data in the middle and one of the other compartments and power in the 3rd for more space

      @AsadMulla@AsadMulla Жыл бұрын
    • @@AsadMulla I didn’t think running data in the middle was allowed due to segregation requirements

  • What is the IP rating and UV resistance? I need to install trunking on an outside wall but everything I've looked at is either hideous or is made from material which will yellow or become brittle after a summer in the sun.
