This is part one of a four part flight from Philadelphia area, to Oklahoma City, Las Vegas, Sedona, Phoenix, and back.
In this flight I talk about how and why I fly lean of peak, as well as the anti-icing systems of the Baron 58 after encountering light to moderate rime ice.
Contents:
00:00 Intro
04:40 Takeoff from KMQS Chester County Airport (Near Philadelphia)
08:28 How I lean the mixture in the climb.
09:24 Start of discussion about how and why fly lean of peak mixture setting
09:34 Gordon Feingold article about the "Red Box"
10:27 My rich of peak / leak of peak calculator
11:24 LOP LEAN on Garmin G500 TXi EIS
13:29 Using ROP LEAN find backwards from the lean side of peak to fly lean of peak.
18:21 More discussion about my lean of peak calculator
21:10 Why fly lean of peak?
22:23 Fuel Planning.
24:53 Icing Encounter

  • Good for you for including Moderate in your report as it seems like you picked it up fairly quickly. As a reminder to everyone severity estimations are roughly based on the accretion rate of ice on an airplane, and the levels are determined by the time it would take for an airfoil to accrete 1/4 in of ice: trace, 1 h; light, 15 min-1 h; moderate, 5-15 min; and heavy < 5 min.

  • Thanks for video……but for those of us who LIVE in flyover country, many of us like it and on the ground there is a lot to see. 😊

    • Fly over country is the heartland of America. Love it and the people. From high up in the air though it’s just flat fields after flat fields and all blends together. Certainly not as impressive in the air as the Rocky mountain elevations, etc. This flight instead of fields upon fields, it was clouds upon clouds!

  • Just discovered your channel! Wondering what is that triangular mount you have on top of the dash? Been trying to find something similar for my videos but don’t know what it’s called

    • Welcome. It’s a GPS friction mount with a GoPro mount put on it. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B663TE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  • Do enjoy your videos , I have E55 Baron , looks like Scimitar props how do you like them

    @stpello@stpello3 ай бұрын
    • I like the props aesthetically I think they’re pretty cool looking, but I bought this Baron with them on it so I don’t have a frame of reference to compare to any other prop sound or performance. I will say the engines are very smooth.
