Plot twist, he's the only human player, and just talking to himself.
I do feel like an NPC sometimes :)
Aha :P
@@Benoniyoutube plot twist: the entire bannerlord community is an ai made to deceive benon into thinking hes playing with real players
A couple things I’d like to remark: 1. I remember when the first 500 battle was played and how humongous it looked then; we are reaching such numbers on the regular now 2. You can actually see the different units getting better at fighting. You see a lot less of the lines just falling apart into a general melee but everyone is keeping with their allies and actually staying in formation. The captains have also visibly gotten better at keeping everyone reigned in
Exactly my thoughts and what I tell the soldiers. There’s moments in the battle I look the down the battle line. 1. It feels like a proper battle 2. I can’t even see the end of the battle line, leaving me to wonder what’s even happening on the far flank. Which is a cool feeling. Thanks for the comment brother
@@Benoniyoutube Oh, definitely! Especially in the first battle I was convinced that your flank, being outnumbered as it was was going to slowly cave in while the right pushed but the completely opposite happened. And you just can’t tell because there are too many people
Exactly! It’s great these battles are growing so much. The in-battle feeling is really awesome And unique
It's like I'm watching the evolution of mass melee combat in real time
How can I get involved
Historian here, that was awesome. Maybe not totally realistic because medieval infantry IRL as in other eras, wouldn't charge that way breaking formation as it would be a certain death sentence and you wouldn't have a respawn, and even in gaming simulators you don't have preservation instinct to worry about, but you acted tactically like a real platoon leader, a real centurion, a real manipolo commander. Awesome.
You know what, you’ve hit the nail on the head. Without that sense of preservation is exactly what is wrong with these battles. I appreciate the comment! I hope you enjoy my future videos :)
@@Benoniyoutube Hold the line shield on while charging. It will make a huge difference. Slow, but deadly.
this was amazing, and i think shows a lot more closely how real battles actually went on, it is hard to keep formation in a game, but you get a real idea of the importance of officers, order, formations, the pressure of numbers, or how devastating would it be to out of nowhere your formation gets attack from behind by cavalry, honestly im in love with this mod lol
Not to mention how ridiculous high armoured these people are. They look like a entire regiment of nobles due ultra expensive full armour. No peasant would have anything remotely close. Also the damage are are fully jancked. Sword vs armour? Lol.
@@user-vi6lg5fk4k Its a game, obviously its going to be unrealistic at some level
Hollywood could learn alot about how medieval battles look from this video as opposed to the crazy, dumb mashing together of armies who get completely intermixed
We can only Hope they do !
Some body said it!!!
When 2 solid lines slam into each other and the camera zooms out and the battle has somehow become a mile thick and every single person is fighting 1on1 kill me
I’ve said this shit for more than a decade! 👏
I can’t watch that crap
This looks crazy with just 200 people per side, I can’t even imagine the armies that consisted of 50000+ men 🤯
this but stretched longer and people just tapping in and out for days
And they all play in first person unlike these players who have the full advantage of third person.
@@drejade7119 I remember watching a video of a first person soldier once and a Knight with helmet, the soldier can't tell how many people the enemies have in the backlines as he only see what's infront of him and he sees a sea of people.
At least 50% of any ancient troops were actually logistic troops, to carry food and supplies. (Not sure about modern army’s proportion) But imagine 1 million men fighting a single battle in ancient China. That was still like half a million men ACTUALLY fighting
@@napolien1310and if you’ve ever been in a big crowd, whether leaving a sports stadium or being at a concert, you can really see how you only see what’s going on right in front of you. You have no idea what is happening at the other side of the crowd or how many other people there are.
Good Lord this was so cool. Knowing these are real people in essentially an unscripted battle using realistic tactics melted with video game mechanics. Seeing organized lines, moving behind the protection of other shield lines into their positions was amazing. Also very clearly shows the usefulness of banner bearers during the period. It’s so easy to get discombobulated in the battle, and then to hear your commanding officer, rally to the banner, and look up and see where that’s at very easily was an awesome moment.
Aye! The banners completely change how we fight! I remember before we had them how hard it was to rally. Keep an eye out for a new video I’m dropping soon. Some really strong banner team play. We also have a score between all our clan, who can capture the most banners
@@Benoniyoutube as did the warriors of old. with Rome (according to legend) doing a howl campaign to get one back.
The "Feigned retreat" by VSC was PERFECT
10:20 this is such a cool moment and impressive performance from both you and your opponent. How they try to bait you into a Hannibal's Crescent feigned retreat, but you immediately react, yet just as fast they notice you don't buy it and just rush your line - you shout for your troops to stand their ground, but in a glimpse there as you're fighting you can see the enemy's surprise worked and your line is pretty much routed, with stragglers getting cut down left and right.
This.
Hannibal's crescent is more involved and spans an entire army, but this is a feigned retreat into a charge that worked very well. Love that we're all learning more about historical battles to apply to this game🙏
Also love that it is the roundshield faction doing this, as the false retreat into counter charge was a very common tactic in Scandinavian warfare between 500-1200 after christ.
Reminds me of Battle of Hastings
Tbh I would love to watch historians to react to this sort of multiplayer battle, looks so fun.
Certainly I would too! Some battles are more realistic than others. Then again, I’ve never seen a real battle aha.
Most skirmishes atleast to my understanding caused less than 50 deaths before a side buckled and fled. However this is before Medieval times. Also the men actually worrying for their lives was a huge factor, seeing a well equipped and uniform enemy was like a death sentence to engage which caused much of Roman success. However if it is defending a home town or such where morale is high they usually would fight to the death, so those skirmishes/battles are usually the ones we know of today. " Kings and Generals " got alot of history on this subject breaking down battles to be understood.
Being the banner holder implie so much responsability and it now important to protect him as it is your way to regroups to your chief and you cant use shield.
Write down an elaborated idea surrounding that and send it in to a network. I mean why not? Fun idea.
The first round of this event was incredibly stressful. As standard bearer I could not use my shield and I had realised that all of the Mousillon infantry had perished so it really felt like me against the world that round. I think I ended up with 7 kills just from that first fight.
The faith you had in the colours helped you strike down your foes, Clearly.
Speaking of colors why your clan has troops with yellow and troops with red, does anyone know?
@@IRON_KING_KNIGHT Mb for not replying but basically BRE can bring loads of players to the point we can have multiple units. The different colours you see are the heraldry of each dukedom. Benoni commands the Aquitaine footmen (yellow and blue soldiers)
@@zanderman4059 it’s alright brother some people don’t reply for a whole year Either way thx for answering I’ve always thought different colors mean different weapons and armor lol
@@IRON_KING_KNIGHT The Order of the Lake (soldiers in black) get unique shock infantry gear. So 2handed maces, axes and cleavers and of course archers and knights use unique gear as well. But yeah for the most part men at arms use the standard loadout of sword, shield and spear. You can also replace your sword with a 1h mace or 1h axe if its your preference.
It's crazy to see such a well coordinated charge at 10:20 and how effective it was at breaking the recipients cohesion.
Indeed! Something so simple but so effective :)
I think if the yellows had not gone forward without orders, or had all listened to the instruction to hold (i.e. form a line again), the charge by black would not have been effective. As it was, the yellows were in a big L shape when the blacks charged into the apex of the L, and the blacks actually surrounded themselves with yellows briefly, which would ordinarily have had a bad outcome. However, the blacks seemed better at fighting and so, even though the yellow leader had several blacks backs exposed to his sword for a few seconds, there wasn't enough time to take advantage of it because the blacks beat most of their yellow opponents very quickly.
@@greatbriton8425 The surprise factor was very important too They were on the defensive with large round shields and suddenly feign retreat and charging right away with full force really was a masterplay Really gg to them, their discipline and fighting skills won the day
@@Benoniyoutubeit was (intentionally or not) an actual historical maneuver.
@@thebigenchilada678the good ole feigned retreat
The fact that you were able to keep all other players together and have them actually listen to you and play effectively is in itself amazing
Try that with WoW players and you'll have 5% at least pull off a Leeroy Jenkins. Try that with MOBA players and they'll kill each other for the "best" spots.
Same in War of Rights in a regiment. Players listens to the officers and do what they are told. Wish i could join a "regiment" in Bannerlord but first time watching these kind of videos. Didn't even know this game had a fan base so well organized.
@@BetrayingLightthere is a game this reminds me of “Planetside 2” its a small community most people are in outfits and its this massive 100v100v100 scifi milsim game, so much fun getting into a good outfit and getting an air fleet going or making massive armor ground pushes to bases
I remember watching this video months ago and thinking it should have done much better than it has. I'm really happy to see it crack 300k now! Congrats man, your work deserves this level of attention IMO.
Hello there
Thanks Strat! Means a lot. We are going to have to get some tips from your videos to apply to the battles.
Watching this, it made me think about several battles from the Medieval Period and Antiquity, particularly the battles where it's mentioned that one of the flanks had done very well and pushed their opposing flank back, but had become overzealous and pushed back too far and became separated from their forces. For a second, I imagined myself in the place of a soldier who was utterly confident as his unit pushed back the enemy, only to turn around and see that we have left our line behind, and are now being surrounded by enemy forces.
This happens so often! Especially now we have 400 soldiers. You can really feel like your winning only to realise the rest of the line has broken!
Bannerlord is so much fun, imagine large 300v300 battles
We’re close!
We can make it happen
30 seconds in and the first thought that came to mind is - you speak more charismatic and emotional to your viewers, than to the 30 lads you are leading into battle. :)
?
Ah your not the only one to say this. I use a different mic for playing and voiceover. But it’s still very different energy
It's difficult to be that charismatic in a stressful situation like this. You gotta maintain the temple and try to make coherent decisions in the heat of the battle, so there's little space for more charismatic and sweet talk :( I can tell it because I've been captain of a group of skirmishers/melee in M&B Warband and when shit comes down to your squad, you gotta make fast decisions. In a resume, it's better to lose some charisma at the time you give orders to maintain a clear mind so you can keep making good strategic decisions. That being said, Benoni was very supportive when things came down haha I'm not that sweet, but at the end of each battle, I gave my brothers-in-arms some pats on the back.
It is more important to stay composed and give clear commands than be emotional and cause unnecessary chaos or ramping up emotions ;) There is time for emotions after the battle. Ofc this is not the case for real combat when you're fighting for your life, but this is not such situation, even though it looks damn convincing and impressive.
Men have boxes. One is a combat box. Another is a feelings box. We might open the feelings box in conversation but never while we have the combat box open.
i can imagine this being in a tournament. like a nation v nation, making it a world war tournament game. and spectating it would be very amazing imo
This would be such a good Esport it would be even better if you had to fight with the tools your culture would have fought with example the Mongols horse archers ect and the cells essentially battania
Bro, this is amazing. I cannot articulate how happy I am that modern gamming has reached to this stage. This is just incredible. To think we went from the 25 fps frame rate of Total war Atilla, to this 350+ multiplayer battle is pure joy! Amazing work. You got a subscriber!
I don't think i've enjoyed a video so much in so long. This was fantastic! Well done everyone who took part! It was a fun watch.
This is actually awesome, I like how everyone's trying to listen and stay in formation.
Those battles are one of the biggest reasons I want to buy this game. It looks good to watch, and probably feels even better when you're the one fighting. Good fight, I hope to see more soon.
Thanks soldier! It’s certainly it a different experience. Everything happens so fast once you start fighting! If kudos to the soldiers fighting, reacting when needed! If you want to join the shield wall, add one of the officers in the chat!
This is amazing, I have goosebumps! I stopped folding laundry and gave this video my full attention. I was able to imagine myself being in this moment and its absolutely incredible. Instant sub for sure, great content, thank you.

Damn this is the best realistic medieval battle scenes i ever seen in a multiplayer game. I loved it. I want so bad to teleport in 20 years where we will have massive multiplayer games with more than 1 thousand players forming ranks in the same battle, but this is already really pretty
I love how important the banner is for cohesion. It's hard to appreciate how confusing the chaos could be but this really helps to visualize it.
multiplayer limit is 1000 slot server. Battles with 1000 players dont happen because community is not so active and big to fill 1000 slot server. There is also engine limitation 2048 agents/entities per map for both singleplayer/multiplayer. Game crashes with more than 2048 agents. If every player picked a horse on full 1000 slot server that would be 2000 agents per map, within allowed bounds, but add slighly more players and game crashes.. Horse also counts as agent.. There is a thread on forum where this is discussed in depth...
people playing singleplayer complain about 1000 troop limit and try to bypass that by not using horses, developers never explained why there is limit
Yeah i knew that that's why i said we will have to wait 10 years before really enjoying a battle of minimum 1 000 players with nice graphics and with people having suffisant pc conf to run it as the game.@@user-bh6kf9lg9m
@@user-bh6kf9lg9m I think you missed where they said "in 20 years". In other words, they want to skip ahead to when these limitations are surpassed.

Always fun seeing all the clans and your clans custom armor change and getting new ones
This is very cool! Do you like have an army commander that tries to coordinate all these sections? Would love to see some more advanced strategies from the commander rather than what looks like basic line ups and smashing together.
Was really fun to fight with you guys on the front line for once. Were hard but epic battles. Next event I support you again with my bow :)
I know this is a very late comment, but dang, this is my first time seeing you or this game and you already got me wanting to buy it. My first reaction to this video was how much like a commander you actually sounded like, in ways I haven't ever seen before in video games. Also, the combat looks extremely hard, and yet, in the first game you killed so many before dying yourself. You have earned this subscriber, I'm blown away.
That maneuver the black circle team did was so cool. Most entertaining thing I’ve seen in a minute. Wonder how often that works so well.
I wonder how Bannerlord would look-when-watching and feel-when-playing if the upper and lower body weren't so disconnected; imagine if making an attack was an animation lock that included set footwork, maybe even different footwork patterns for different WASD and swing-direction inputs. Edit: hyphens
I think I know what you mean. The footing does actually have an effect. Your character either has his right or left foot forward. Which wry slightly effects how you swing . ;)
That might be something the next game can implement using AI generated contextual animations. As it is now it just isn't that practical I think.
@@TheGenericAssasin yeah, sounds insanely difficult to pull off so it's easy to see why it is as it is, would be mental if something like that could ever fruition
@@ChilledoutDevil It'll definitely happen, it's just a question of when. ML tools are going to completely reshape video games over the next 30 years or so.
"different WASD and swing-direction inputs" if I understand u correctly Morrowind tried something like that, but it was not very effective Apparently, at least I've never heard anyone say it was good?
Great battle BRE, prob one of the most amazing battles I have ever played with the formations. See you in the next sunday
Yes it was some truely beautiful shield walls forming up on this battle!
Bro this looks awesome! Subbed!
I do love the very brotherly nature of the archers. The provide and protect nature towards the little brother character at the back.
You BRE lads might need to start getting some reinforcements, a lot of the coalition groups are getting trained up and more organised so that numbers advantage is really starting to show as a result. It was a cracking event though
Definitely a good thing :) the more we play the better these battles seem to be getting!
Great video! Some advice from a military person. Instead of saying something like 5:43 back row goto the left don’t use the front guys, try having your men form a 5/7/10 man front and the rest falling in behind them in rows. Your line disappeared for a second bc of confusion who the back row was (even if some were clearly the front). Still, this video is 3 months old and everyone is commenting how much better you guys are getting. It looks a lot of fun.
Hey dude some good advice. What do you mean by the 5/7/10 ? Sounds interesting. Regarding the front line. They should of kept their tight position and the back row manouver left/right. But half our soldiers miss the training session where we practice this. Appreciate the comment !
@@Benoniyoutube what i mean is if while forming you tell them to make a 5 man front then 5 people line up. Everyone makes rows of 5 covering down behind the front 5. This allows the front 5 to know they’re the front line. Or Vice, the back two rows knows who the commander is talking to and that they need to break off and cover left. Instead of the gaggle that occurred.
@@steffens260Couldn't make it more confusing or complicated if you tried 😂 Nobody speaks in that language - the way you coordinate people is to split big groups into smaller ones, and each one has a designated position and task. So if the 1st group fails for whatever reason, you simply tell the 4th group to take over or whichever one is the optimal for the task. If you want your individual team members to decipher where each of them should be, you'll end up with a chaotic mess of people overlapping.
@@TheDendra7 that’s why you don’t give them specific positions to be. If I tell group 1 (7 people) that they are the front line, then they don’t need to know who’s first second third etc. they just need to form a line in the front. Everyone else roughly gathers behind them. Doesn’t sound specific or complicated at all.
This is the single coolest thing I’ve seen. Amazing how tactics play out in the game. Great command. I’m flabbergasted.
The Bait-back into a consolidated charge maneuver seemed unstoppable! I expected it coming once you said they were going to do something interesting, but I did not expect it to have such a immediate result.
loved partaking in this, great to see it as a video too!
Thanks soldier!
To make it even more accurate, have it so the unit commander can only give so many commands. To replicate the idea that once combat starts, its hard as hell to order your troops around with an efficiency.
Aha that is a good idea. It’s very hard to get the troops together once the fighting does start! But realistically in a battle they wouldn’t have headsets
Bro those battle scene look so fking dope, cavalery movement into the battlefield feel so real
This is amazing content i really like it, i feel that the last few troops are those that are more experienced in combat; It's nice to see that makes guys with a stick are no longer the main units in the field. Haha
I wonder how combat would have to change for polearms to play more of a role in these line fights. In IRL reenactment you tend to see a lot more poking and prodding before any sort of charge, and spearheads can slip through very slim openings. In games, shields work almost as a binary defense - you're either fully protected from a given range of degrees, or not at all, so it's comparatively easy to advance on any formation. I'm sure there are other factors at play too, like the inherently frantic movement of a multiplayer game, but I'll stop here :P Very cool to see these kinds of organized fights! I used to be part of something similar in Napoleonic Wars for Warband
ok, so im fairly new to the community of the sword, but here's why i think spears are normally a bit trash in games: psychology, in game u never actuly die so one charge in and fights more with weapons than shields. in war, you only die once. so you would fight way more with ur shield than ur sword. even horses would not actually, willingly run into a wall of pikes. which is why they where used to harass, flank and chase down the enemy once routed. so real men fighting would charge but probebly not rush in head long. as they get closer the front rank starts slowing down, and gradually the momentum is lost. most battles would probably have been a stand off, with men tossing projectiles and move in and out of the moral tension zone to strike, which is a helluva risk. so in real battle, the longer ur weapon, the closer to ur own line u could stay while still striking at the enemy. not only is that range advantage a huge factor 1v1 psychologically, im sure it gives the combatant a bit more confidence to strike. becouse they dont have to get so far away from backup or quite so close to the actual enemy. as for making spears better in this game, IDK, faster attack rate and stabs only for spears, helberds could have thrust and over hand only. maybe with overhand being able to strike through allies. its beleved they where pretty much used this way in actual battle, the second line striking over the first. hence the pollaxe, pole but poll or crown of the head, at least according to some.
I would love to join something like this as the sheer immensity of battles such as these would be amazing. I would ask though, how do you get placed into specific ranks, do you simply ask to join CAV or are you recruited to the Frontline?
Execellent question! In the BRE you’d be placed in either the infantry or archer divisions. Cavalry is a very sought after position. If you can imagine 200 players on one team with only 15-20 cavalry. It’s hard to cater for everyone. The longer and more loyal to the clan you are, your path may eventurely become a mounted sergeant or a squire to a lord. Effectively there is a waiting list.
I'm at 1:00 currently and this already looks way more fun than a chaotic brawl would be, can we see more of this type of content, maybe even streams?
the way the sides clash, skirmish, retreat, then re-form to do it again is mesmerizing. If only movies were like this

It definitely does, it’s a slow burning masterpiece.
Having played Bannerlord singleplayer for a long time, this is the first time i want to try multiplayer. Instant sub!
1:41 the first moments are honestly a good example why medieval armies usually avoided a charge when in a shield wall, the attacker is at a disadvantage so it's either very slow progress or waiting for the enemy to come. Some scribes mention that a formation must be standing so close shoulder by shoulder that an apple can't pass between them, which can't be ensured when moving, it just needs one little bush or rabbit hole for a small gap in the formation that the enemy can use
I had privilege to be part of this event by not joining the battle because of my wooden PC :DD Nontheless im still proud of our lord Captain Benoit!
Not only peasants 😀
Aha thanks! Get saving for an upgrade and get in the shield wall! :)
I'll be there for you !
Doo do doodydo do doo doo doooooo
Wdym awesome maneuver, they just walked in a straight line and you broke your formation XD lmao
Hard to do mid fight with all this chaos. I can understand why an outsider would think otherwise though
They definitely feigned retreat, formed a proper shield wall, and pushed straight through the fight, separating Benoni’s line. It’s a combination of both the feigned retreat and the penetration of the center tactics, both of which are among the 8 classic military maneuvers.
This video was so awesome thank you for taking the time to upload
that was beautiful to watch, how both sides fought and how the tactics worked, it was amazing to watch

This is awesome!! reminds me of irl large battles like pennsic and bicolline who use larp weapons and whatnot. Looks just like it!
Wow. This looks amazing. like childhood dream come true. i always thought that bannerlord was more of a RTS strategy
Yes will most definitly be downloading this again. Looking very nice.
probs coolest thing ive seen today! great vid. only thing I think u should incorporate is give ur self's a little more space, and use ur archers in a way to force them together. for example a shield wall shoot the left or the right depending on whats happening ofc and if its just a single wall shoot the left and right and thin the wall and make them go tighter easier to flank and surround them. Plus in bannerlord u cant walk through small gaps between soliders so if u have slight gaps u can use spears through the gaps.
Some good ideas. We do sometimes slightly separate the wall when the archers are directly behind us. It’s hard to always pull off in the chaos of battle. Normally happens in the opening forming up
This is so fun to watch. I'm from SEA and joining the server would mean a latency of around 150ms, wonder if that is playable since the game isn't really fast paced.
Love this. Real tactics.
Wow, amazing gameplay, I’m actually impressed. I’m joining!!
Patient, caring, composed, and smart. Like a good father for the men.
4:00 If the gents in your unit were trusted/experienced enough, you could have called for a schiltrom (or half schiltrom facing the enemy) around the banner. Rapidly regained the advantage of formation, against a broken unit.
The way they pulled back and then charged forward and broke your line was nuts.
I wonder if battle historians should study these as experiments. I wonder what insight it will give on human behaviour in battle. How natural lines and paths form. How the battles will change overtime, as the players learn and adapt. Constant stream of new players basically being levy troops. Super narrow voip would be good so you can hear the very close players. The commander could have a horn function and louder voip command. The potential for this is incredible man.
Those guys with the round shield did it right. Even during the meelee, they were very tightly packed, each one covering each other with their shields. That shield charge was awesome too.
Aye the VSC are strong adversaries of ours. We have since acknowledged this move and try our bests to counter it

looks cool and i like how the battle showcases what it probably was like a bit. One thing tho is i expected the cavalry would be more devastating to the foot soldiers.

Watching the flow of the battle like that was crazy. :o
well done guys. absolut amazing. Respect to everyone there!
That move at 10:21 thats called the false gap. Makes the enemy think that your retreating so they push forward which ends up exposing their flanks allowing for a quick counter charge.

Nvidia shadow play. All modern nvidia cards have it already installed! It takes up nearly No cpu power. Whereas obs is very consuming. Top tip!
@@Benoniyoutube oh wow I didn’t know that, thank you 🫡
Very amazing defense though. Some fantastic command skills. Lovely to watch.
Those solders were having so much fun. I won't mind at all being like them just for the experience
The round shield guys have similar tactics used by the vikings in The last kingdom movie ❤
I love the tone in "for the glory of Brettonia." notice the lack of exclamation point. But it's so fun when you can play a game like this.
love the vidya as well.
Hell but I really need to get a gaming pc. Mine broke about 6 months ago.
First time seeing this, really enjoyed watching. I would like to know why it was only double column formations. Never saw a switch of tactics. Overall damn good to watch
God this looks glorious
this is freakin awesome. great job!
I had to do this sort of thing in real life at empire Larp back in June. actually being in one of these was a hell of an experience. If it was a real battle I would be dead right now
this is fucking epic!, and it shows how important officers like centurions where in battle to organize and quickly maneuver the men around, why there where flags and banners on the formations, even there is this theory that battles were a constant back and forward of mini charges/retreats/rinse and repeat, instead of the all out Hollywood melees, and you can see that happening here, alongside with the importance of formations and order vs how catastrophic a disordered open formation can be, i just love this!! can this be done in a campaign map or is a "1v1" MP mod?
This is a multiplayer event. We have them twice a week :) And yes playing these battles really show the importance of discipline and organisation. Especially the use of flags to rally on!!
That was truly awesome. I am off to reload the game, get upto speed and seek you guys out.
Good leadership. Calm and clear.
this looks incredible
Cograts on u're first mil brother
Beautiful! I'd love to see a Napoleonic War mod for Bannerlord with 400 Players.
Amazing!
This is amazing
Gives a pretty good idea of what was happening and how actual people handle it.
