Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2016 | Skyscraper-studded Frankfurt - with so much commerce it’s nicknamed “Bankfurt” - has a delightful-to-explore old center. We'll also visit Nürnberg, a capital for both the First Reich (the Holy Roman Empire) and the Third. From its towering castle and playful fountains to its Nazi Documentation Center and maze of underground bomb shelters, Nürnberg is a fascinating study in contrasts. #ricksteveseurope #frankfurt #nuremberg

  • as a german i feel sad about all the lost architecture of the war. germany was SO much more beautiful before the war.

    @weisthor0815@weisthor08153 жыл бұрын
    • It was the same in the U.K. Many beautiful buildings were lost. Unfortunately, after the war, many buildings built across the continent lacked the soul of the buildings that came before them.

    • pproust I think you might have missed my point. I was talking about the sadness of losing so many beautiful buildings across the continent. I certainly wasn’t trying to make a political point about who was worse when it came to the bombing. Europe is still a beautiful continent, but it was arguably even more so before the war.

    • Those parks and trees are going to be there for a very long time. The climate has always 'changed'. I live in New England, 25,000 years ago this area was under a sheet of ice a mile and a half thick. Obviously anyone who can think independently of the b.s the media tells us would come to understand it. In the 70's the climate alarmists were telling us were headed into a new ice age so pack up and head south. Then it was global warming and we'll all be underwater so pack up and head for the hills. Then, because those of us who lived lond enough began to not believe the b.s they just switched to a blanket term that will cover all their bases and call it climate change. Also new tech is coming online that can remove co2 from the atmosphere and convert into graphite, or graphene? Not sure which. Preferably graphite because it makes excellent way to store energy.

If you will be in Frankfurt in 2021, when - so help us God - the Frankfurt Soccer Stadium (today it’s named Deutsche Bank Park, but it‘s called after it’s real name the Waldstadion) will be reopened, take part in a Bundesliga soccer match of Eintracht Frankfurt! You will be a spectator among 51.000 Frankfurt soccer fans! Phantastic atmosphere and a very big fun!

Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. • Excellent video; full of really interesting and useful information. I've been to Frankfurt a few times and Nürnberg once before. I wish I'd seen this video before I'd visited! Thanks very much for so much care to detail and great presentation. Just one factual correction. Germany became a nation-state in 1871 (not "in about 1870") when, after the defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War, the then German princes proclaimed the founding of the German Empire. The King of Prussia was installed as "Kaiser" of the new empire and Berlin became its capital.

  • I was stationed in Germany from 1978-1981. The last time I went to Germany was in 1991. It is totally different today. The Germans did a massive reconstruction of Germany after the East & West reunited. The best year to travel Europe was in 1983. I was stationed in Italy at that time. That was the year the dollar was very strong and a lot of people in the U.S. were getting passports that there was a long ling in the passport office. Never again did the dollar was that big.

    • Yes. I was stationed in Kitzingen in 1983 and 1984. One dollar was worth 3 marks then. We had a blast for those 2 years when we weren't working.
