In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

Steve was the only one to get the 3 words right straight away, then had no plan with the balls.
you win some you lose some lol.
A genius, IMHO
Of all the contestants for series 17, Pemberton is the one I'm most excited about. My bet is on him to take home Greg's golden noggin.
My prediction - it'll be close between him and John
I think Nick Mohamed. Singer, writer, actor, comedian, magician, memory master. He's got it in spades, pemberton second
Yeah he's the one I'm most excited about too.
He's in a league of his own
I'm most excited about him too and hope he gets to take the golden bonce as well... however, I'm a little concerned after his initial attempt at taking the balls one at time!
Love casually whipping out "nominative determinism"
Even if it was used in the wrong context!
I've no real idea what it means but it just worked.
@@user-bh6ok3qj4g It’s when your name matches your job, or what you do. For example, if your surname is baker and you end up becoming a baker.
Is that the first, actual celebrity gossip that we've had so far? Dame Shirley Bassey - quality stuff!
I knew Steve wouldn't dissapoint on that front. His best friend is one third of The Gossip Club.
Just in case nobody's heard this story - when the young David Bowie was playing working mens' clubs he asked one promoter where the talent's toilet was and was told to use the sink in the dressing room. When he protested he was told, "Listen, lad, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey it's good enough for thee".
I know something about Shirley Bassey. It was fairly common knowledge in the Docks area of Cardiff. (A family friend was a merchant seaman.) She deserves the success she has had.
Can't believe no one moved the empty buckets to the ball bucket
Cant believe nobody removed the string attaching them to Alex!
Came here to say exactly this
I was expecting somebody to make Alex carry the bucket of balls.
Barbed wire can... opener the man's a genius
His delivery of Alex's 3 words was superb!
Steve Pemberton. He's just a normal man, just an innocent man.
Interview task times: Joanne McNally - 4,43 John Robins - Task Failed Nick Mohammed - 5,53 Sophie Willan - 6,12 Steve Pemberton - 6,05
Finally, someone who took their time and ignored this was timed. Is Steve the first one to use the three first words each time, without being prompted to do it?
he was so chilled and was,,, well not ‘good’ at the task but like so focused on it, really did what he was told haha, will love him being on this if this is his approach to every task.
Weird thing is, he was actually pretty fast. He finished with the balls well before the last question.
@@OriginalPiMan - If only time was measured in questions instead of minutes and seconds.
@@RFC3514 Time on the task started at 0:32, and the last ball was in the last bucket at 6:02 (can just barely hear it land). That's 5 minutes 30, not the 6 minutes 05 listed on the video. My best guess is that Alex was measuring in questions, because he appears to have not stopped the timer until after the final question.
@@OriginalPiMan - I was addressing your point that "he was actually pretty fast; he finished with the balls well before the last question". That's irrelevant. If he'd taken 20 minutes to answer the first question, he would have been done with the balls "well before the second question", and he would still have been very slow. Because the time to complete the task is measured in, you know, _time_ units, not in _questions._ 😜 Also, answering the questions is part of the task, so there's no advantage in finishing the balls first (or vice-versa). In Joanne's video, for example, the first question is asked at 0:32 and the last ball goes into the bucket at 4:41. That would have been 4:09, but her time was 4:43, which includes the last question and probably a few seconds that were edited out.
Oh, he's way more delightful than I thought he was going to be.
I love these little interview/tasks. You get to learn a little about contestants you’re unfamiliar with. And when the show airs, you’ve already got new people you want to root for. 😄
Shearsmith would be amazing on TM. I imagine him getting quite agitated in the studio. Gatiss probably too clever for his own good.
I think Reece would be sweet in the studio, but rage in the tasks.
@@lnfreeman yeah, he's shy around people but will be good under the preasure. He'd really let loose on alex in the tasks. James Accaster/ Victoria Corren Mitchell style
Dyson we shall forget exists, because I just always do even though I have nothing against him.
I think Mark Gatiss would be one of the contestants who would think laterally and use loopholes or interpret instructions differently to others and complete tasks quickly.
One ball at a time? Interesting approach. Ahh, good, he worked it out.
"That's a relief"
I am so excited for Steve this Season!
It premieres tomorrow as well 😊
He seems so lovely! I've always liked Steve but only ever seen him acting before.
He’s a genuine nice person in real life - on my birthday I went to the cinema with friends and he was coming out. One of my friends asked if he would sign my birthday card and he did! Then he tried to get us tickets to his show but they were sold out. Can’t find the birthday card now tho - gutted 😅
what an extraordinary gentleman
In a League of his own. Well, of four.
3 more of them and there’d be a league mayhaps
Yeah, they cancelled that show too
@@phonotical who 'cancelled' it?
@@phonotical yea thought you wouldn't reply, stop being dumb
So nice that Steve said he'd get jealous if Reece and Mark were on together :')
Im a huge fan of Inside No. 9. I cant wait to see what he does on the show!
Not pyschoville or league of gentlemen?
@@Lezzyboy87to be fair they are very different shows
"Sorry, I used an expletive!" 🤣🤣
That was in stark contrast to the others, an actor and a thinker. Interestingly though, didn’t pick the flexitub up initially so this bodes well for embarrassment in the practical tasks! So glad Steve has come on board HMS Taskmaster!! Thank you Alex.
Adorable, capable, best bit of showbiz gossip ever, complete with terrific impersonation of Dame SB.
You did it beautifully Tubbs
This comment made me very happy. 🥰
I read that out loud as Edward! lol!
Now... undress.
I don’t know why, but I find is so weird to see Steve Pemberton not playing one of the thousands of character he played with Reese Shearsmith. Every time I see him, I’m just waiting for a very very very dark turn like in Inside No. 9
An imagination as vivid as his can think of things that are not dark, I’m sure. Anyway, we shall soon see. Eight hours and counting.
@@mcculloch29 He's most known for Inside No. 9 which often does have a dark twist.
Wow. He just got the task right away and got on with it. I think he's going to do well.
Mark Gatiss on taskmaster would be iconic
Quite concerning that no one thought of bringing the empty colored buckets to the balls, rather than the other way around… I can already see I’m gonna struggle with their decision making 😂 Can’t wait ❤️
The ‘barbed wire can’ riff was outstanding
Mark Gatiss would be Victoria Coren Mitchell all over again. A particular brand of high brown humor and a good chance he learns to do something fairly basic the rest of us take for granted while doing one of the tasks.
A bot copied your comment and got over 100 likes just an fyi
You know it's "brow" right?
@@jamescarroll384I thought they meant like high brow jokes about poo at first 😂
Trivia: Reece Shearsmith and Mark Gatiss appear together in an episode of the recent Netflix series "3 Body Problem". Gatiss plays "Sir Isaac Newton" and Shearsmith plays "Alan Turing" in Episode 3 "Destroyer of Worlds". Added bonus: Phil Wang plays "Aristotle" in the same episode.
I’m now absolutely convinced that Steve Pemberton stole some sweets in the 70s.
No! I feel his frustration as the same thing happened to me. I was completely innocent. Yep, it still bothers me to this day!
@@Darapsa Yes! You are not alone, twice! The injustice and frustration you feel at that as a kid is SO strong, I swear it can't be shaken off even long into adulthood 😂
I definitely stole woolworths sweets in the 90s, too easy not to lol
@@Darapsa - I'm now convinced you were his accomplice.
@@RFC3514 Man, come on, you maķe me so sad.
Given the dark twists and turns of Inside Number 9, I’m really intrigued as to where Steve Pemberton’s imagination and considerable intellect will take him with the tasks. I think we could be in for some vintage moments. Even if that doesn’t happen, what a lovely man he is.
“I didn’t know I was so artistically creative.” I think we all knew that Steve! Seriously, to those that haven’t, watch The League of Gentlemen and Inside No. 9
And Psychoville
Been wanting to see this gentleman on TM for a very long time.
well this is the most exciting thing to ever happen
Just 24 hours to wait!!!
Local task for local contestant!
What an absolute gem of a human Steve is.
Dame Shirley Bassey is part of Taskmaster history twice now, and I enjoy that.
Plus we now know that she does a great impression of Alan Carr
I'm so rooting for Steve and this clip does not disappoint!
That hissed 'youuu' at 3.19 actually made me kinda anxious 😂
Steve is the one im looking forward to the most. Hope he is as darkly bizarre as usual 😁
He is so cool. This is gonna be good.
I’m rooting for Steve!!!
So glad to meet the peoples champion, every season has one
"Oh that's a relief."
Those angles on Steve gave him a very Herr Lipp look I felt...!
he has spoken, reece must be summoned for a series of taskmaster
I didn't know Steve before this, but now I am really excited to see him. He was amazing at this task, while not being too serious. 🤩
They had to invite Steve first because he's the one who'd care the least about _not_ being invited. Next series we'll get Mark, and Reece will be left to stew for another 3 years.
Steve is my favorite to win
SO EXCITED to see him on the show!!! what a delight he is :D
Two more days👏👏👏👏👏😁
Love, love, love Steve! I am so looking forward to him taking on the Taskmaster.
That's a relief! 🤣
Even Alex doesn't have that many questions
@@CaesarTjalbo😄Exactly!
You asked for Irish comedians Pauline mcglynn (father ted) tommy tiernan, Patrick kielty. Brendan grace
eating horses is nowhere near the taboo everywhere as it is in Britain. But ideally you want to know about it and have a choice...
Who would I like to see as a contestant? Alex and Greg!
Steve seems to be the one most people seem to know of, but he’s all new for me. Looking forward!
Watch league of gentlemen, pyschoville or inside number 9. All brilliant, he's in and created all of them
Thank you for these interviews! I am seriously jazzed about this series!
Why not put all the buckets close to each other, then lift each ball up to between your eyes and Alex's, thus maintaining eye contact but also seeing what colour ball you've got?
"uuuuhp!..Alex kicked the bucket!" 😅 That was clever! Too bad that Alex didn't react to any of his bucket puns lol What a jerk! 😂
I think Steve is gonna be my favourite, or at least I will be rooting for him the most lol
One of my favourite comedic actors. Can't wait to watch him. Reece Shearsmith for series 18!
Best interview.
This is going to be an epic series!
"Where are the balls?" "Good question, here we go" :D :D
Steve: "And he's gonna give me my private training session" Alex, while working out with Steve: "Oooohhhhh"
AHH I’M SO EXCITED TO SEE STEVE ON TASKMASTER! I really hope they take his advice and get Reece Shearsmith and Mark Gatiss on too - that would be the actual best. ❤😆
So far still nobody has moved the buckets together and sat down next to them, which would make the entire task much easier. So much for another taskmasterly example of cognitive overload!
Can we get a compilation of Alex Horne laughing at contestens? There must be a lot of unused footage.
Mark Gatiss - yes!!
I would watch Gordan Ramsey on Taskmaster, Twice.
Can’t wait for tomorrow.
That personal trainer idea at the end is honestly genius!
yipeeeeeee!!! l am so excited about meeting the new team!
I don't know this man but I'm really excited for an older contestant who is both goofy and high-energy. I feel like many of them are low-energy and sassy which is also very funny, but I've been craving some Rhod Gilbert chaos that only comes with time and experience.
Oh, Steve... 😎
All the Dutch people surprised about not being able to eat a horse
Hi Friends! Many of you already know Steve's work, so as a lowly, daft American, I hereby ask: If I were to watch ONE episode of Inside No. 9 before I watch TM tonight, does anyone have a recommendation? I don't trust a random google search, but I feel like trusting Taskmaster KZhead comments is... better?
a quiet night in
the trial of Elizabeth gadge! Sums up their humour very well
Super late to this, but DEFINITELY go for The 12 days of Christine, that one sold the series for me.
Finally someone who can follow simple instructions!
Have none of them moved the coloured buckets to the bucket of balls?
Only know him from " Happy Valley " so I'm exited to see him out of his element 😊😊
Inside number 9, league of gentlemen and pyschoville. Enjoy
Psychoville is amazing.
I have no prior knowledge of any of the contestants this series, but based solely on the interviews I'm picking this guy to win! (could be recency bias too lol)
The wisdom
4:03 Wow! I was predicting he was going to say that.
this tasks puts my teeth on edge. lol
Oh man if Gordon Ramsey was on Taskmaster, that would be the day!
If he approaches every task like this, my bet's on him winning. He was so good?!
checked the video length after he went with like 4 balls on the third trip 😅
When they do they interview, are they already decided to be in the show? Because the interview feels like more of a test than a interview.
They've already recorder their "proper" tasks. Sometimes the interviews (for other series) have asked how they think they've done.
Tom Gleeson should sit in for Steve on a live show to see how long it takes Greg to notice.
Is life futile? For Taskmaster contestants, it seems to be! Looking forward to the new season, and Steve especially.
Okay so we found the genius of the group 👍🏻
OTHER task masters are ok, but there is No comparison to Little Alex Horne and The TRYE MASTER Greg Davis... Welcome back again gang!
I either want Steve or nick to win
Yeah he’s won
Artificial Intelligence, Time will tell, Oh Fuck!
You bet your ass I re-checked the video length when Steve picked up a single ball :)
Ooh, one that I have actually heard of
