  • I've never listened to another James Blake album, and never really (before this introduced me) listened to any kind of electronic music. This is far and away the best album I heard last year, and coming very quickly to be one of my favourites ever

  • My favourite album from james is the first one. He was so open creatively and so unbound by convention it was like a breath of fresh air. The new album has that same spirit of fearless experimentation and openness to sonic discovery which is why james is your favourite musicians favourite musician. Totally brilliant james. Keep going and dont be afraid.

  • James, you’ve grown wiser as you’ve grown older. I am so happy you found a way to tap into your momentary true self and work that into a piece of music. I so so love that you are doing music that you probably enjoy listening to in your private time. This is such a beautiful love letter to London, the textures are exquisite and your production skills are on full display! I congratulate you on deciding to invite Bowers & Wilkins to capture a glimpse from your intimate surroundings and I think you will also reap the benefits of that partnerships as you explore different routes to take as a contemporary musician and a public persona. Congratulations, yet again you did it! 💞

  • The title track "Playing Robots in Heaven" really hit me on a spiritual level. It's one of the most soul piercing pieces of audio I've ever heard. It has such a classical feeling, while being obviously dissonant, it's like a mix of watching Interstellar and mourning in a large catholic church for me.

  • I too work in fragments and chaos and often create without intent, but rather let what’s going to happen, happen. The upside to that is it’s great at processing feelings and stress, but the downside is I have literally several thousand 20-80 minute recordings of ‘in the moment’ quality (unedited with questionable mix) mixdowns, discrete multitrack stems, and primarily absolute garbage recorded…BUT, each ‘jam’ or free running collage or whatever the case may be DOES has a gem or 3. And everything has been resampled so many times I’m not even sure what machine I originated or resampled or processed many of these sounds on. It’s so incredibly overwhelming and it’s just more incomprehensible over many years at this point…but not only is ‘Playing Robots Into Heaven’ a phenomenal and compellingly honest collection of works (I’ve listened causally twice, and straight through with my best headphones 3 times, with focus), but it seems to have already given me the permission structure I apparently needed to begin the editing process. I am very much looking forward to whatever insight is shared in this series. How to build something from these has been painfully elusive, but I have a strong feeling that once it clicks, it’ll practically finish itself. Thanks for sharing, it’s already made a difference in the way I’m approaching my first attempt to actually compile a release. It’s never been about that, but now I get it: I owe it to myself to see it through, one album at a time.

  • Love your album (and all of your work of course), it definitely feels the passion you put into it and the way you diving yourself deep into the process you really love, that is... really special! I can confidently say that you are one of the few artists, who really inspires me to never stop creating or lose my own path and always be passionate about it. Thank you James, waiting for your new songs or album, it's like waiting for Christmas but even better.
