I know Serena had some incredible tournaments before coming back, but the players she was in 2018/2019 equally was incredible. She made 4 finals in 2 years. I wish she could’ve gone the last distance in at least one. But that’s still so incredible. I was tuned in for it all. I miss her so much. Whew *misty eyes*
I still can’t wrap my mind around how Serena was able to play so well and win her opening 2 matches here in straight sets. She had only given birth 6 months prior to this (and it was a C-section with several life-threatening complications and scares, meaning weeks upon weeks upon weeks of recovery time and no working out) and she was still breastfeeding during this tournament. She’s insane. And then the year prior she won a whole grand slam while 2 months pregnant.
I think that Serena would have that 4 GS finals (2 Wimbledon, 2 US) if her head didnt let her down. Which is sad cause many times throught her carrier it was her mental strenght that won her big matches.
Her head? HER FEET. Serena did not move at all in those finals. Very clunky. ( I do agree with you, however.)

The way Serena played Berten was how she should’ve played Naomi in that US Open final! Come to the net and finish! Naomi net game is trash n that would’ve put her under so much pressure

@@MrCreative242 Fr Serena could whoop Osaka but a mental block is there because although Serena was about to lead 3-0 against Osaka at the AO, she started playing nothing like how she played the entire tournament. 2021 Aus open was here for the taking like the way she whooped Halep into shape but again she was struggling against Halep in the finals of a GS after maternity leave so it’s definitely a mental block. Maybe breaking the record was on her mind through these matches.
