The SBI really embodies the darker side of “Legacy.” Wilbur’s remembered, but more as the lunatic who killed his country than the leader who nurtured it. Tommy’s the symbol of defiance and persistence against Dream’s tyranny, but that same abrasiveness ruined his relationships and he’s alone. Techno successfully razed every nation who wronged him-but thanks to that power, he can’t help getting dragged into conflicts via favors. Phil’s legacy is overshadowed by his companions-Techno and Dream are credited for Doomsday, and jailbreak, and half the server didn’t know Phil killed Wil till weeks after the sixteenth. “Do you really want to be remembered for your worst moments? You may wind up alone if you do.” “Legacy” just seems a fitting way to describe their actions and consequences. The refrain “I’ll tend to the flame, you can worship the ashes” as “I can sow the seeds of peace but I’ll always be remembered as the one who chopped down its tree.”
would I be allowed to word this differently for a school project, it seems fitting, and you did an excellent way of explaining it or something, I changed a lot of it as it to not seem as it wasnt a Minecraft game with no explanation, but It still seems responsible to ask for permission, as I did get the Idea and information from you.

See that is just furthering the Phoenix tommy au idea this gave me (if you have any idea of evo smp's first season it would be a bit similar to grian's fate there starting as a menace and becoming a god without really having a choice but in Tommy's case he would actually be aware there just isn't any other options left at that point.

Just quickly want to make you all aware of just how in-depth Knp goes with their videos. At 2:04 Phil flashes back to the 'Soldier, Poet, King' video Knp made a while ago. One of their first animatic I believe. And now how he has seen it come true. Everything comes full circle. Knp is phenomenal
This is part of why Knp is my favorite animatic maker.
Their third video. I alway knew and have a sense that this connect to the Soldier, Poet, King song. But I still don't really get it. What happen in Minecraft world to lead these "event".

okay so this is incredible and there are many little things that I want to point out, but one of the things that I really like is that transition at 1:45 with wilbur, showing how he changed over time, it’s just so well done. also i saw someone in chat point out that the crack in the photo was right over tommy’s heart, which i think is just so cool how much there is attention to detail and symbolism there are so many other things that i want to point out but this comment is already longer than i originally planned this animatic is incredible, and i hope whoever reads this has a great morning/afternoon/night!!!

@@fernboo8456 yeah i assumed it was L’mantree, and it’s also one of my favorite parts, bc it shows the passage of time and the different stages of Wilbur’s life (and death) i could go on about this like some sort of over analyzing english teacher but i will spare everyone of that lol

So, thing I noticed: there's a proverb in I believe Germany that's being referenced here. "Tradition is not the worshipping of the ashes, but passing on the fire." Now look at the refrain through the sing. In a way, all four of them are following through a twisted tradition on the server. Violence and betrayal and destruction is a never-ending cycle in the Dream SMP, as is revenge. And look at what everyone is doing - it gets more personal from there. Techno has a habit of destroying L'manburg. It's what he was brought to the server to do; it's possible, in-character, that he would have wandered back away if they hadn't tried to reinstall the government. They hurt him, he comes back and wrecks face, he leaves and tries to call it done, and every time, they try to come hurt him again. So tradition is, he comes back and wrecks face again. Tommy and Tubbo may have falling-outs on a regular basis, but they started this game together and they keep gravitating back to that default. And no matter how far they stray or for how long, L'manburg is almost as much their child as it is Wilbur's. They'll come back to that too, over and over, until there's nothing left. Wilbur is even more stuck there. He is, always was, and always will be the founder of L'manburg, and he's given his life for its destruction before. It only makes sense that he'd be there to see it vanish once and for all. He will always be present for its harm and destruction, no matter what. And Phil? Phil is their father. He's been there for everything his sons have done, and he always will be. He remembers the days when they all worked together, but he knows that's gone now, no matter how much he wishes it could have stayed that way. So if they're going to destroy themselves and one another... he'll be there for that too. And he'll stand with Techno above all if there has to be a choice of sides. Every time. And every single one of them only sees their own tradition as being followed. They only understand themselves in this. As far as they're concerned, the actions of the others were nowhere near as inevitable as their own, and they're just following in the footsteps of the "real" way things had to go, with no comprehension of why it has to be that way. They tend their own flames and don't see they're all worshipping the same ashes. And quite possibly, they never will.
To make it more personal to the song: Phil knows the old tradition of them cooperating and getting along, helping one another, is dead now. He wishes it didn't have to be that way, but he knows it is. Techno's path has consistently been a struggle against oppression, fighting for the freedom of things that, in his eyes, should never have been forced into line in the first place. And if he has to cause mass destruction to set the world free, then so be it, again and again. It'll be worth it. Tommy and Tubbo have, fundamentally, galvanized and supported each other forever. Even when they drift apart, they always reconnect and go back to supporting each other. Wilbur remembers L'manburg as it began, a collection of friends trying to make their own way, laughing and having fun as they did. He remembers the good times, and the slow path to madness and death. He's in mourning, already dead and unable to stop this any further. All he can do is watch and cry. Phil is probably the most generally capable of the bunch, and he remembers when his kids were young, when their ideals lined up, and maybe they never spoke with one voice but they were _together,_ in support of each other. It's out of his hands, now, that they're completely at odds. But if he has to continue... then so be it. And in the end, when the dust has settled? Tradition is that they go their separate ways. And Tommy seems to have a little more perspective in the ending shots, becoming a bit more aware of how this always plays out.
It is interesting to see so many KZhead Channel's dissappearing after the Dream SMP ended, a bit sad. Technoblade Never Dies❤
Broo at 0:26 you can see that the Brocken glass is Brocken on the perfect spots. Tommy’s heart is shattered, technos crown is separated, and the glass is Brocken at Wilbur’s neck. The details are just chefs kiss. I love it.
We will remember. The DSMP did a lot for so many people, myself included. Even though its rapidly fading into obscurity as many of its fans are adults now, in college, or some have families of their own now, those of us who were touched by the brief light that this community gave us in its golden age will forever hold that same light in our hearts. To anyone who reads this, remember the golden days, and remember that even brighter times are still ahead of us as long as we have the will to make them so.
Wilbur planting the seeds and it growing to a tree while he grows as well eventually becoming ghostbur was a really cool detail
I love that depending on who the “I’ll tend to the flame, you to the ashes” line is being “spoken” by, the meaning changes. When Techno or Phil say it, the meaning is really that they are going to burn shot down, and everyone is left mourning over the Ashley’s of their home, etc. while with the Tommy/Tubbo scene, it seems like they are making a deal; a partnership if you will. I love it.

Honestly, between the white streak in Tommy's hair to the bad wing of Philza, these animations follow the cannon so much better than most others.
Phil is just like the teacher of the others. Techno is the unstable but powerful and bloodthirsty split-personality student of Phil. Stchlat is the newcomer Tommy is the social guy
As usual, incredible work. The crack over Tommy's heart in the picture, the tree growing (and dying) with Wilbur, the Soldier, Poet, King reference being twofold, once with the setting and artwork and the second being the lyrics themselves ("all creeds and all classes"). Stunning.

Gosh this is just delightful. Even after all that's happened nothing has hit as hard as the absolute wonder that Doomsday brought this community, even so long after it happened these animatics come forth to show the story at it's peak. The sleepybois lowkey carry the Dream SMP on their shoulders, without them it would be nothing but another SMP. Thanks for encapsulating this beautiful story beat with a whole slew of amazing art, I wish we could get more segments in the lore that so beautifully encapsulates what the Dream SMP's story has been all about....

"For what we need most now is unity's seed / A common old song for all creeds and all classes" while switching between Wilbur, Tommy, Techno, and Philza to show that while they are all different and not biologically related, they are still family "Try to hold on to the time as it passes" Revived Wilbur, the one who represents the passing and defiance of time (by dying and being brought back) is the one that sings that.
The part where Ghostbur wrote down what he remembered and that part with friend and Ghostbur yelling at Phil in the background- AAA MY HEART. Truly amazing art!
This is stunning - the art style, the imagery, the scene where Wilbur transitions through different stages of life and death, everything. It's all so good!

I’ve watched this countless times already, everything about this is so good. One of my favorite parts is “Capture the wild things and bring them in line/And own what was never your right to confine” with techno, I feel like it completely encapsulates his anarchist ideals and his fight to take down the government. Honestly, every section of the song lines up perfectly with the character portrayed. Bravo, I get chills every time I watch.

Damn, and everyone goes crazy over Sadists stuff (no disrespect to her, I love her work) but DAMN your design and precision is outstanding, I’ve seen a lot of talented artists, but you’re definitely top tier! Seriously, you could build this into an outstanding and well paying career (or maybe you already have) but there are just so many opportunities for someone as talented as you. This is super impressive!

Holy shit this is amazing!!! The animatic "We Take No Ls" has always been one of my absolute favourites and was the first dsmp animatic (at least that I know of) to use this song, and I remember when I first watched it getting full chills. It's unlisted now, but I still have the link to it saved to watch it sometimes. It's so cool seeing another animatic use the same song and, it's so cool being able to see where they're similar and different.
I can't believe I missed this one. This was published a year and a half ago... feelin a lot of nostalgia right now, thanks for the beautiful reminder of the DSMP saga :')

It's been a while since the last time a DSMP animatic gave me chills, and I'm so glad this is the one to break that streak. Absolutely beautiful.
Ouch this was gorgeous! Wills tree transition and Philza’s bit was breathtaking. ‘What we need most now is unity seed’, and then into his actions on doomsday. He’s a character that rarely acts, but when he does it’s big. Also ‘what will we do when the world it is ending? Try to hold onto the time as it passes, I’ll tend to the flame you can worship the ashes,’ with the visuals perfectly shows how after L’manburg was gone they were all able to find new things to do that were important to them. Also so nice to see a Tommy Tubbo moment at the beginning. I feel like their partnership in times of trouble is strangely rarely showcased in animatics.
Goddamn feeling some things right now. Absolutely absolutely love this. The pacing and storytelling and style and the parts that are animated and everyone’s designs and aaaaaa the emotions captured in each image. So good.

the audible GASP I did when I heard that it was THIS song. I love the Longest Johns! This animatic was AMAZING!!! and beatiful
I've always enjoyed this song, and was happy to see an animatic of it. I really like the shot of Ghostbur's journal, the tree timelapse with Wilbur by its side, and the shot with Philza spawning withers. I also like the younger design of Techno in the flashback. I also like the simple design for Philza. I do like the other interpretations of the character, but the lack of layers just adds something that I can't find the right word for. It's like one can feel how usually he's working on his own projects not harming anyone, but because someone has crossed a line, he calmly gets deals with them as if they were a weed in the garden of his life.
