For this video, I make a chemical called manganese heptoxide, which is an unstable and strong oxidizer. It looks for any excuse to decompose and it reacts violently with most organic things. I tested it on a few things like cotton balls and paper, as well as solvents like acetone and ethanol. I also tried firing a small liquid rocket with it.

The coolest part to me is the fact that the smoke coming off the reaction at 3:50 with the second cotton ball makes rings (you can see them better in the slow motion part). I think that's a good testament to how much force is generated by this reaction even after the initial fire goes out bc regular fire does not produce smoke rings, they appear when there's a force behind the air that's pushing them quite a bit.
Bro i just saw the ring. It's pretty amazing

my favorite molecules are the ones which explode almost immediately, because you can see it in the chemical structure and sometimes even the chemical formula itself. in this case it's Mg2O7, which looks like it wants to explode. But if you want to see another chemical like that, the other one I've heard of is Azidoazide Azide, which is C2N14, and basically looks like a precarious jenga tower. Azidoazide Azide doesn't even need the introduction of an extra force (that totally will set it off, but its unnecessary), it just spontaneously explodes.
"C2N14" - Jesus Christ, that many nitrogens in a molecule that small absolutely looks like what it is, which is an explosion waiting to happen.
i remember that one! it explodes when exposed to light, no light, cold, heat, movement and generally existing. i guess breathing on it will also work. what a fun chemical
Not to rain on your parade, but I'd like to correct you on the formula of manganese heptoxide. It's actually Mn2O7, not Mg2O7 But i get the feeling that you, sir, know it already. Sorry for disturbing, wishing you the best! And i find it interesting, same as you do, that formulas of unstable compounds usually look somewhat ridiculous
Azides are always a good starting point for stuff that doesn't really want to exist. And this property also makes them valuable for syntheses. E.g. you can prepare certain pharmaceuticals used to treat high blood pressure, of the Sartan family, by reacting a precursor molecule with a nitrile group with sodium azide, in order to make that tetrazole ring, a 5-ring with 4 nitrogens in it. That in turn _sounds_ like it's unstable, but a tetrazolide anion is stabilized by being able to distribute the negative charge over the entire ring, which also makes tetrazoles behave as unusually strong acids.
