Guys be sure and stick around till the end...i stumbled all over this one..good out takes
Sometimes it takes a few hours to fill out completely and get firm. Not sure with it being INSIDE a tire though.
DOES NOT WORK
It does work I’ve done it You need to put a hole in the very top of the tire to let all the air out and let all the spray foam get in there and expand and let the air out you do that and it will work
Then let dry for +24 hours
Exactly!
They were using the wrong foam also in this video.
@@thomasritter3159 I definitely agree
The foam they were using was fine. Buuuut the foam needs moisture to cure. You have to spray a teeny splash of water inside before you put the foam in.
If you put holes in the tire, at the tread, it will allow the air that remains in the tire to escape, thus filling the tire fully with foam. What you have is a tire that has both air and foam and that is why you had problems. Then you needed to allow the foam to fully cure before hopping in the wheelbarrow. Good luck with it.
My thoughts exactly
Hey bud, the side of the can states to shake vigorously, and squeeze the nozzle with the can upside down. The can has a propellant in it that's quite a bit less dense than the foam. Spraying it upright results in expending all the propellant before u run out of foam and u just end up wasting like half the foam. U want the can upside down, the foam sitting at the bottom to be at the nozzle, and the propellant above the foam pushing it out. It's also been my experience that dispensing it upright causes the foam to not want to expand like it should for some reason. The difference in can position is noticeably significant
I always hold the can upside down. That way the air pushes out the foam.
it will work if you compress all the air out of the tire first. the way you did it, there is to much air in the tire, there is no room for the foam. that's why the other guy drilled a hole in the tire so the excess air will leak out. plus you want all the air out of the can, lol, you just added even more air in the tire. just my two scents. you should make another video. promise it will work. we do it with lawn mower tires, even four wheeler tires.
Forget putting the valve back in and just use the cap. And that foam takes about 24 hours for it to fully expand! Did that with a tire on my boat trailer about 10 years ago and it still is fine!
Think you are supposed to drill holes in the tire and fill in all the holes it also helps the foam expand..that's what I did for my lawn mower trailer
In the old days the valve caps on tires were metal and the top part was used to remove the valve stem. Pretty slick you didn't need to carry around any special tools to remove the stem and you could flatten someones tire rather easy.......lol cheers from RDU area :)
I got fed up with punctures in my wheelbarrow tire, so you know what i did? I bought a puncture proof tire on the wheel already. I've been happy every since. :)
Keep having fun that’s what makes the world go round.
Used 1 & 1/2 cans, waited 24 hours and tire was still flat. Bought a solid tire and went to throw the old one out. 48 hours later the foam worked! Now I have 2 solid filled tires.
Thank you for using gloves and eye protection, something that is missed by so many DIYers
TOTALLY AGREE !!! ALWAYS work SAFELY !!!! Thanks for that edit reply !
Simp
Give the foam time to cure and harden.
I did this on the front tire of my zero turn mower, works like a charm.
You needed a relief hole! Spread a little, spin the wheel, spray mower, spin the wheel, spray mower spin the wheel, I'm pretty sure you know what I mean! But you seem like a very great hearted man! Good luck on your next try. And thanks for the video
Drilling a hole in the "top" (on the tread) of the tire gives the air being displaced a way to get out. Also spraying the inside with a mist of water from a spray bottle is highly recommended These types of foam are "moisture cure" and use atmospheric moisture to cure. They will not cure (or will cure very slowly) in a sealed environment with little moisture... They will not cure at all in a sealed container devoid of moisture Doing those two things will absolutely work... I have done it many many times. and the resulting "flat free" tires last years.
I did this twice on my lawn trailer tires and wasted 2 cans of Great Stuff trying this. The foam never expanded or solidified. I contacted the manufacturer and was told that the product needs MOISTURE to work properly. On my third attempt, I injected about 2 ounces of water into each tire, spun the tires to distribute the water evenly, and then re-injeccted them with Great Stuff. This worked out very well and gave me great results! The manufacturer was adamant, however, that THIS IS NOT AN APPROVED USE OF THEIR PRODUCT.
Great video! A little humor is good for the soul. And the blooper reel is always a treat. I've got about 47,000 flat tires in and around my barn and shop. Annoying! I'm going to try renditions of what you did there. I actually think that could work with a little more trial and error.
On off rode equipment they foam those tires but they use explainable foam and drill holes around the tread to get rid of all the air inside. It works very well.
hillbillydualsport real foam filled tires use an entirely different foam formulation, and they’ve never drilled holes in our forklift tires when they filled them.
Explainable foam??? Lmao is that foam that makes excuses 4 itself????
Btw rode?? U mean road by chance? Autocorrect failed u...
@@PplCantDriveOkc lmao
I used regular engine oil in my John Deere rider tires two years ago and they still hold air. Just remember to spin the tires. Also, preparation is key with any job if you want it to work.
It works! After 1 day tire was still soft. After 4 days enough foam escaped to fill 4 tires. 1week later tire was completely solid. I had to cut away all the escaped foam.
I used to work for a company that would foam fill mining tires. They would drill a screw into the tread so the air could escape and the foam would push out all of the air. It would be 100% foam filled. Then they would sit overnight to harden and they were completely solid the next day. The only problem with them is that they were heavy as hell.
Red beaver brings out the goofy in you...thanks for the laugh Josh
I think that even if you let the foam dry over night it might be slightly better but over time it would probably crush down. The Flex-seal might work but a new tire and wheel from Harbour Freight would be cheaper and easier. If the wheel comes apart, you could disassemble it clean up the wheel and paint it heavily on the inside and outside then check the tire for leaks by filling it up with air and spraying the outside with soapy water. then fix the tire or put in an inner-tube. I would love to see if the flex-seal would work.
Yes it will! Friend did it on a hay wagon and I had a tubeless turf tire that wouldn’t take air anymore. This worked for us and carries lots of weight - believe me! 🤷♀️
Thanks for the laugh and a lesson on how to NOT fix a tire.
You guys had fun that's all that matters to me.
Josh, fyi...It's the shrader valve that you are pulling out of the valve stem. Love all your videos, I'm learning a lot and keep them coming, bud!!
Drill several holes to allow drying time ,a few days of drying time. Get err done !
When we did it we had the tire off the rim and did it in sections.. and it's on warehouse electric cars.. ours are pretty firm even when the cargo area is loaded down.. no more flats.. and very even wear ..
cool
DAmn a rocket scientist
does it work in ordinary cars/,,,
@@PplCantDriveOkc great question
Funny vlog Josh. Reminds me of the red green show from when I was growing up.
I got my dad the Red Green box set for christmas a couple years back lol
Should have left the valve out to let the foam expand and that pushes the air out the valve stem and sets in 24 hours for full expansion !
Guys ,good fun, BUT you need to wait a long time ,a few days maybe because there is very little air to cure the foam ,if the tire is 100% foam it will not cure ,its just like being in the can , so you need to wait quite a while for it to cure
I tried 2 of my mower tires and was completely covered in the stuff it was everywhere messed my clothes up and everything in the end did not work. Great video hope you had a merry Christmas.
I've used that spray to patch deer targets and cracks around the house.its a mess but it works.farmer had a sow he put in a wheelbarrow and rolled her next door to get bred.next morning farmer comes out and sow was sitting the wheelbarrow.
I got that one from the get go. 😂 There's a long version of that joke that's funny as hell.
Best video I've watched today. Seriously. So much fun. Lol ✌💛
More foam!!💪🏻
It takes alot!
I green slimed mine year's ago and I haven't had a flat in years about every 6mo I had a little air there's 2 kinds make sure you get the right one
Loved this video, shared with my peeps. FYI. The valve you removed from the valve stem is called a valve core. Sometimes also called a Schrader valve as used in AC systems.. The tool is called a valve core remover. 👍
Thanks Mike!
A Schrader valve is also used in propane cylinders.
I just filled both fronts on my Craftsman with Green Slime. Worked perfectly!
was gona say the same thing
And no mess! Wow this method in the vid is messy
His way may have worked if he'd have let it dry at least 24 hours. But our way is much better
I put expanding foam in the tires on a dolly. Worked fine. I did let it cure for two days. Tires are hard as a rock.
You need to put a hole on the other end so the air can escape otherwise it won't allow the foam to fill it. I did it on a quad once since we couldn't get a replacement in time and we were going that weekend.
Iv never thought about that but I’m pretty excited to see how it works
Yes it will I work for reno County mowing and tve front tires on our tractor tires are full of foam and I have see bolts in the tire area do it does work
I have done what you are doing Josh you must drill holes in the tire. You must use a hard compound foam or your tire will get soft after a period of use.
You fellas are SOOOO fun! You are on to something - great idea, I'm sure there's a way to 'crack the code' and make this work
you know you can just screw the cap on it and it will be fine lol no need for the valve core to go back in lol
I wasn’t gonna tell him that but since u did. Lol
We used the stuff you mix in a 5gallon pale and broke the bead on one side of the tire. Poured the tire like 3/8 to half full and set the bead with the air compressor. Just to be sure it didnt explode we had the valve core out ahead of time. We did it to a hay rake and lawn mower tire.
It works, you can by tires that have been done this way also side note you need to hold the can upside down wile filling to get more foam and less gas out of the can!
Large farm tractor tires used oil in them. But when putting in the oil, there has to be an outlet for the air to come out so that the oil can go in! But you did great, LOL
rodney flynn Most large farm tires are water filled, you can buy an adapter that goes from male hose thread to valve stem thread and has an air vent on it. Turn tire so valve stem is at top and start water, air will exhaust.
I've used a product called slime before...worked amazing for my wheelbarrow I had probably 50 punctures with thorns and blocked all of them..been 3 years now
Pretty fun would have never thought of even trying foam n a tire LoL always good to experiment who knows may find a cheep fox one day . Have a great day. Thanks for sharing. Hi to Mrs Stoney Ridge too. 👍
You need to displace air with foam. Drill some damned holes so the foam can flow all around. Have fun but don’t waist money
i worked for a company in the late 70's that made tubs and showers and the molds were mounted on car tires so we could roll them from dept to dept and they were filled with foam
It seemed to be low; but only on the bottom part of the wheel. I like your t-shirt. I once had a '76 Ford 4x4 Custom (five bolts per wheel). My pickup had round sealed beams. Your pickup has rectangle. Well manufactured vehicles nonetheless.
Very original and unique idea...its only about 3 000 videos prior to this one on KZhead some of them 10 years old o more but very original
Guy In Wyoming's TIREJECT tire sealant fix worked for me.
Love fun video as usual.
I have a small trailer that I pull with my mower and I used the spray foam for the tires on it worked great been using it for a few years now. Just don’t leave any weight on the tire, it will cause a flat spot
Most people say foam filled tire but think about this if you foam filled a tire it would always have flat spots at every point it's sits for awhile. Hard tires are latex filled this is a rubber fill and you can run it until the rubber is gone but it adds weight to the tire. Always latex tires nerve foam fill.
think foam needs air to harden, with valve stem in tire I think you have the same as it was in the can!! fill tire with air now
Definitely a barrel of laughs on this one!
Dude that is super cool, weather it works or not it’s some funny stuff!
Josh, your clean shaven, I almost didn't recognize you. I would have purchased a solid no fill tire. The video is a little humorous.
lol you have to hold the can upside down
Lol
Thanks for the idea, my wife insists she can use the riding lawn tractor to cut everything she sees, even some viscous thorny plants that would make a grown man cry. I used a can of fix a flat on 1 of the tires and witnessed it leaks from over 30 thorn holes on the poor tire. I think next time I'll drill out the tire in a few spots and use your method then bet the wife she cant get a flat again.
If you over 30 thorn holes in your tire, why would you need to puncture more holes to allow air to escape?
Kids will play! Lol as they say all work and no play leads to a bad day. Enjoyed the video. :)
I agree!
Nice to see to dudes messing about and having a bit of fun. Lol 😂
Real comedy guys! 🤣🤣🤣 thanks for the laugh
You should make more videos like this. They are funny.
lol...thanks..if it doesn't stop raining I'll be stuck in the shop forever lol
They drill holes in the side because the foam needs air in order to dry. It definitely works if done correctly.
The main activite ingredient is Cyanoacrylate, the same as super glue. Water is what activates it. Putting in some water first, removing the air, and allowing it cure and it will work, for awhile. It will eventually crush down.
I seen a video a while back that said you had to add water to the spray foam idk if that makes a difference
The spray foam will only work with the holes in the sidewall of the tire for a short time. The foam will compress over time and now you have a flat ruined tire. Putting it in through the stem and adding a little air will seal up leak, We are at 4 years now and still no leaks. However the bearings are shot!
Funny thing about foam is it needs oxygen to harden. So if you left the tire with no outlets it would take longer than an hour to cure. That is why you create holes in the tire to allow it to cure and expand.
Was just searching the ol youtube for how to do this. What a pleasant surprise to find a SRF video. Wooooo
Fun stuff! Nice break from the norm. I was hoping it would work!
Cool Video, I'm thinking of filling my Mountain Bike tires with Spray foam, tired of putting air in the tires & don't want any flats
It works you just drill a couple holes to let the air out and in for it to cure, I just did it a week ago on my lawn tractor big wheel and a sulky wheel
The foam didn't have a chance to cure (expand and harden), hence the "flat" tire when you sat on it. What is it like today (30 Dec)?
You've shared a lot of wins, thanks for also sharing a failure. Looked like much fun was had making this one. Happy New year!
I had the same problem. After changing out tubes 2-3 times I finally just bought a solid rubber tire. No more flats.
You can't do it with a tube. And high expansion foam works better. The problem with a inter tube is that you can not force the foam all the way around the tire.
It DOES work, when done correctly!!!! Use expanding foam! Drill an air escape hole/s! Turn tire while filling to evenly distribute foam! Let excess escape while it dries for 24 hours! Scrape off any dried on excess foam and job is done. You're welcome.
Thanks
Value core is that little piece you took out of the value stem
Try fix-a-flat. Works for small leaks.Tractor supply sells inner tubes. Fun video.
You have to do it in three different locations on the way up it does work.
Schrader valve removal tube but lil thingy up in the tube works too.
Have used the expanding foam with sucess tire still enflated 3 years later will haul a full load of firewood with no problem at all Not sure of the weight though try it again with expanding foam and spin the valve stem to the top after filling remembering to let the air escape so the foam can fill the tire and harden mine expanded 9 times its size according to the can
Cool thanks Larry
Without moisture, the foam will nit solidify. Spray a little splash of water in it before you put the foam in it. No spinning required. Also, the existing ait needs a way to escape. Drill one small hole in the side of the tire away from the nozzle and theair will escape just fine.
Thanks gentlemen. I have to keep lookin'.
Josh y’all are a riot to watch so much fun
I did this to my tire, over 15 years ago. It isn't flat, and I have been using it for lots of things around the home. I did have to poke holes in the sidewalls. The foam didn't fill the tire on the first try. That is why I had to poke holes in the sidewalls.. But I haven't had to put air in a flat tire for the 15 plus years...
wait overnight
For real! Didn't even let it cure!
takes about 24 hours for that stuff to dry
Stuff is a pain in the ass if you get it on your clothes..
It may not dry at all, it's in a sealed area.
The problem with using foam such as Great Stuff, it requires air to react and cure. I attempted to fill a PVC pipe with foam then cut it up into pieces. When I cut the pipe, the Great Stuff was still in a liquid state inside the pipe and start to foam once exposed to air. Try this with polyurethane Gorilla glue, it will start to foam up once released from the bottle. You need to use two part polyurethane foam, this stuff will react anywhere once mixed together.
Perfect fix !!! Thanks man !!!
I work with this stuff at work. Thank the gods for latex gloves.
So say us all.
Spray foam requires three things to catalyze the foam in order to cure properly. 1. Air. exposure. 2. Moisture of some type. I use a sprayer with water to soak the area if it's too dry and I'm pretty sure the inside of a tire is usually dry. 3. Time. All of the jobs I've ever had to use foam as a moisture barrier and insulation required time to set, usually at least 24 to 48 hours depending on the size of the area and depth of the cavity. Entertaining video though.
Bingo!
You are a genius. Lol. Next buy a tire !
