If your rust hole is that big, let the foam cure for a day before cutting/ shaping it. If it’s still bouncy it’s still expanding . Then place the bondo once dried. This “tutorial “ is honestly the best way to save. Do it the proper way and it will last you a very long time!

That will last maybe 5 months. Go to junk yard chop out those rocker sections out of a junker with less rust damage. Cut out existing rusty rockers of your car then weld new ones in. Then that’s a 20 year fix.

Why did you bother with the foam and bondo, you could have just painted over the cardboard and duct tape.

Ya sure. After a rain the cardboard will be falling off the rocker panel like a soaked witch.

I'm so glad I live in the South below the snow belt. Folks up north don't believe me when I tell them we don't have rust problems like this here. I have a 1988 Volvo with ZERO rust and a 92 GMC van with ZERO rust.

@davidgrason It depends where you live in the south. Humidity level is important! Low level = good, high level= shit! The Amazonas forest is also the south. Drive a car there for 1 year and you will be surprised how many rust you will found!

It is nearly Halloween and there is a Horror Movie marathon on…. After 6 hours.. it is less of a hack job than this.. but do what you gotta do.. a lot of body shops in my area won’t fix rust at all.. they say it always comes back and don’t want the liability and headaches. As long as it isn’t structural.

as much work as you put into this, and how obvious this "repair" is after its complete, you could have actually cut out the rust and repaired it correctly with metal. even if you didnt weld the stuff you could have body bonded the metal and at least it'd last more than 4 or 5 months.
