The Italian jockeys that have come to ride in So Cal are all outstanding: Rispoli, Dettori and Fresu. Especially on the sod. All 3 need serious consideration in grass races.
I used to listen to this on KNX radio. The announcer always started with "BURR_RINGGG!!" and then announce the race.
I always listened to KNX 1070, to hear the tape delayed stretch calls about 20 minutes after each race... Great memories. 😊

Dettori gave it up. Pointless to steal the 100 points that would go nowhere. Dettori didn’t go to the whip once. No point in abusing the horse. Prepping for the Preakness. Stronghold was game even if he got second but had Dettori gone to the whip I’m guessing he would’ve taken it.

Last year you heard about all these horses having to be euthanized at Santa Anita etc.. glad not to hear it this year so far.. unless they are covering it up
In fact there's no equestrian sports where so many horses die like in horse racing. You can google it. And these are just the official numbers. Not to mention all the horses that don't even make it to the official races and are heavily injured or die in training or are brought to slaughter houses because they are not good enough for the racing tracks. Horse racing is one of the most - if not THE most - abusive equestrian sports in the world.

Horse racing is one of the most abusive sports in the equestrian world. In fact it's not a sport, it's a business because at least it's all about success and money. A horse life doesn't really matter. Especially if a horse isn't successful enough. You don't believe me? You can google, how many horses break their legs or die in races every year. And we don't know how many die in the training stables or end up in slaughter houses. But nobody cares, because they only see horse racing as entertainment.
