Imagine an entire gaming company with the same amount of passion as the guy who made this game. One can dream..
That entire gaming company you speak of exists. It's called FromSoftware
I'd say most devs are pretty dedicated to their games. It's just the publishers expecting devs to create AAA games in 12-16 months.
There's a lot of such companies, but probably not where you're looking for them (definitely not the megacorporations churning out AAA games).

The dev statement that came out that basically said this isn't going to be Total War, or Crusader Kings, but Banished with some combat on the side, that made me happy. That's all I want. A modern successor to Banished. What a stellar city builder that was. And still is.
Yes! I've put hundreds of hours into banished, been playing since it's release. It's one of those games that I just pick up and can spend an entire evening playing just to relax. I never try and do crazy mod villages either.. but it's just so perfect for how I like to play games.
Amen to that! After Banished, all city builder/survival games just reused the very same systems with minimal improvement, changing the setting and production chains... Very hyped for this one :) I also hope it comes with a better AI than what we usually see
I only played banished for the first time last year and couldn't get enough. Despite its popularity and many attempts, I feel like no other game came close. But I haven't tried manor lords yet.
A grittier version of kingdoms and Castles. Sign me up!!

With the artistic style of the buildings and roads i would not be surprised to see Geralt of Rivia coming into town to check the bounty board for a new hunt.
I would. Because it's not an RPG and has no RPG features at all! People really need to keep their expectations in check 🙂

One thing that wasn't mentioned in the video was the importance of historical accuracy. There is a historian who playing the beta and kept being blown away by the achetechtural realizm. Personally I've been super excited about this since I first heard of it and really enjoyed the beta.
You mean Proud Bavarian, right? I love how he explains things and notes the accuracies.

Settlers on steroids. It's like society simulator. Best thing is everything is connected and graphicaly presented. Everyone who played Settlers 3,4 (Amiga times), will be super happy with this game. Me :)
Settlers was my first thought. And that is definitely a good thing.
Mac (the guy behind Worth a Buy) basically said there was Settlers, two decades of games that don't matter and then Manor Lords.
Especially when the latest iteration of Settlers is at best .. meh. Pioneers of Pagonia is underwhelming to me too, I would say the closest I've played lately is Farthest Frontier
The Settlers IV FTW!!!

I played this for first time today after having it on wishlist for a few years, and honestly I was amazed at it, spent hours the first day just messing with it, no bugs yet , very solid game, I cant wait to see what it turns into, like a peaceful city builder with some small skirmish tactics which really at the time period, it was nobles vs nobles and this was the majority of combats were small skirmishes amongst land owners, to me this game is already starting to scratch a long overdue itch, and the fact it was mainly one guy just shows how dedication and passion for a project can become amazing and these bigger companies should start focusing more on things like this than how fast they can release the "next" big title just for more money.

would love to see a japanese version of this, the style of this game and the japanese culture combined would make for something beautiful
I would love a Roman / Hellenic version too where you could create a megapolis lol
There was a decent line of city builders by Sierra and Impressions games that seem to function like this. Ceasar city builder, Zeus city builder probably being the best known ones. Big fan of those so really happy to see one come back into the games environment after mostly being an abandoned game type.
I'm not a city builder type of gaming. I mostly play RPG, story driven, single player games but Mr. Falcon explained it to me like I'm a 5 year old for this. I love it and now I'm gonna support the guy who made this awesome game. I love supporting small studios like this. Thank u Gameranx!
This game is Stronghold+Banished+Total War and I love all 3 of them and all 3 of them had something missing in them, and that was the other two games. Now someone made a fusion of all 3 games and it is awesome. Strongold lacked battle tactics and deeper survival aspects. Banished lacked anything military. Total War lacked anything city building and micro managing your town. I am very much ready for this game. 🙌
Anyone tried “Farthest Frontier”? Underrated medieval city builder
I can't wait to play Manor Lords tomorrow!!! I will have a blast!! Played it on Steam's Demo Fest long time ago, looked good and interesting and it was on my radar for a year and a half, so finally tomorrow is going to be the day! Very excited about this game, played it on Steam Next like 4 years ago and been waiting for the full release ever since, it was really interesting how unique and realistic it is!
played the beta when it came out, its a really solid experience and the fact its made by a single guy is INSANE, hopefully he gets picked up by a studio who can assist him for future projects cause the mans clearly got talent
The more realistic version of this is your lord going to war and your troops being levied. Deal with raiders while meeting a quota of supplying and equipping so many men. Seems like a very in-depth and interesting game! Can’t wait to play it on console in three years
The realistic in-depth design, especially with how the medieval army works and operates, is astounding! Can't wait!!
I have this in my wishlist and hope it plays good on steam deck. I didn't know you can actually walk around as the lord in third person :O that's cool
Just wanted to say that medieval buildings are some of the most extravagant and ornate buildings ever built, more intricate than most buildings built today
Yep. Generally well thought out and with purpose too. Unlike today's flash and glam houses that are horrendous.
I would really like to see the "3rd person mechanic" expanded to also include combat. Where you could fight along side your troops but not making you OP. And possibly peanalizeing you if you get "knocked out" in combat. I really enjoyed this mechanic in Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War!

Gonna be real, I’d love it if you had a game that was a mix of this and Medieval Dynasty, not only planning things out like this from topside, but also getting to go out and take part in the tasks themselves. I understand that’s not something a lord is typically shown to do, but it’s always nice to break the norm
What do you mean medieval buildings were not elaborate? Compared to laying hollow brick over hollow brick in a straight line and few corners and what ever they do in USA with paper walls or whatever, medieval buildings had very nice looking wooden beams filled with dirt/wheat /clay mix and white washed with lime which decorate the house , overhanging walls, different shapes , different materials from foundation to the roof top .Also combat isn't just spice , you use your villagers which are used in the chain of production as soldiers meaning if any of them die will be like throwing a bunch of wrenches in a cog wheel
Long story short it's a buy, but will drastically improve as time goes on so don't feel pressured to buy today, however a good buy nonetheless.
👍
God bless Gamranx. I appreciate these reviews so much when I’m really interested in a game, but unsure if I want to commit.

I bought it, played it and it is great and I will continue to play it and wait for updates because it is really worth it, Manor Lords will be most likely the game that will be on par with Anno when it comes to city building enjoyment. Can we get a Before You Buy for Stellar Blade? Even though I already pre-ordered it, I actually value your opinion on games.
If I'm not mistaken they're working on it, pretty sure it's coming tomorrow.
I find it strange that we expect billion dollar gaming companies to monetize their games and indie/single developers to not monetize. This guy most likely would benefit from monetizing the game but then everyone would hate his game even though it would give him money to make a better game. Food 4 thought.
The game is monetized, you buy it. That's what gamers want.
I remember playing this as a demo during the Steam small developer event a while back and then emailing the developer to please let me be a beta tester because I loved it so much. I bought Farthest Frontier to kind of scratch that city builder itch but it just wasn't as much fun as this one, I am looking forward to pay day when I'll be able to buy this
This really reminds me of the Impressions era games like Caesar 3 and Lords of the Realm. This looks right up the alley for anyone who wants a cozy city builder with a little bit of combat. I'm super excited.
There are so many gameplay elements from Lords of the Realm II in this game. And that makes me so freaking happy. Every so often I install that game and how nothing else does it like that. And boy does this game scratch that itch.
Dude this straight up looks like what I want Daggerfall to look like. Damn! Just not the same gameplay.
Check out a game in development called The Wayward Realms It's by a lot of the Daggerfall team and it's pretty much Daggerfall but modernised.

So glad to see a review that clearly stipulates that this is a city builder first and foremost. Too many "influencers" focus on the combat. It is like the Caesar or Pharoah games; combat is there, but it is a tiny part.
EXACTLY. People are calling this a total war game, but the entire point of this game is to be a city builder game with complex variables lol
This game looks so chill im looking forward to picking it up
.. Good Intel .. Thanks .. may wait for an update or three before pulling the trigger .. or I'll buy it and park it to help out the Dev on the front end as he seems to be "all-in" on making the game complete and (very) worthwhile .. and yeah (raising hand) I have been following this game and have it wish-listed .. lol .. I Love me some good city-builders ..

To clarify, you can go into more detail of where families are and what work is assigned by hitting TAB😊
Looks good. Excited for 1.0. I hope the dev opens it up to mods.
This game is stronghold for the new era but without the castle building. An individual villager can be seen going to storage and getting the raw material then refining it and the delivering it to its specific storage
What’s here is utterly fantastic and the dev should be SO proud. What worries me though is the same thing that makes all this impressive - it’s one guy. How long are we looking at until this is a full release? How long between patches since this is early access? It took 7 years to give us what’s here, how long for everything else? Very much looking forward to it, albeit a little apprehensively.
Been waiting on this like 5 years man. AND it’s now on GamePass! Super hyped and can’t wait to see it mature
I don't play much city builders but this one intrigues me.

Eagerly awaiting the release in less than 2 hours. Solid review, thanks for the video!
Definitely reminds me of Stronghold. This could be amazing. Super hyped
Been hyped for this game for a while spent a lot of time in the demo
Honestly, one thing I would love in the video game and they might do this in the final version is the king that you get to walk around as it would be nice if you could customize the character, you know, put clothing or armor on the sims.
I read that the lord portrait you select in the beginning is supposed to determine who you look like in game but that it's not implemented yet
The best part of Stronghold: Crusader for me was the element of city building when i was a kid, i cant wait to play this game looks fun
This is pretty much exactly what I told my buddy. The game is barebones, but what is there is really awesome and the foundation is very very solid over most other early access games, with some pretty impressive technical performance. I’m excited to see it expand and follow its development closely
I'm pretty excited for this game but also insanely intimidated by the complexity compared to banished. Especially without a proper tutorial. Also concerned it won't run on my PC lol Totally going to play without combat though
I know it's going back in time quite a ways, but I imagined this game to be like a modern version of Pharaoh. Primarily city-building with some combat. Turns out, it's surprisingly not far off and I'm loving it so far.
As a huge fan of banished, this looks right up my alley
Watching this review; this game reminds me of the old city builder called, Pharaoh. In my book that is a very, very, good thing.

I hope this game has mod potential in terms of the engine. I could totally see some cool total conversion mods
This totally scratches an itch left by Lords of the Realm II. This is a game I've wanted to come back to for years.
These kinds of games are normally not my thing but I’m gonna give this a try. Developed by one person and looks like this and is fleshed out better than most “AAA” games in early access. That deserves support.
