GAMERANX: Souls games don't straight tell you to give up SOULS GAMES: "Put these foolish ambitions to rest"
I heard that shi so often😭
Maidenless
Uh... ... That's... Well... That's Elden Ring. Dark Souls had a good chunk of the NPCs keep telling you to not go Hollow... Sure DS2 then went and started off by helpfully informing you that you'll keep doing over and over... And kept track of your deaths...
@@Drejzer Elden Ring is a souls game my guy. Its a genre not a name
@@kobemendoz.9543 souls-like is the genre. Souls games are in the franchise. Tho the creators agree ER is a souls game, not for that reason.
Getting berated by morty is hilarious lmao

Metal gear the phantom pain goves you the option of putting a very embarrassing-looking chicken hat if you die too many times, and it makes your enemies look straight to the ground without shooting you A whole another level of embarrassment 😂

The Messenger has a lot of amazing "this is indeed a quest of importance, but also a video game" diologue. I love it
I should go back to it. I really enjoyed what I played but dropped it towards the tail end. I did enjoy the writing.
It reminds me of the arcade games we played back in the early to mid 80s.
I need to finish it
One of the first games I 100%, it's one of those ones that I just enjoyed so much I wanted the challenge
I only got into games a year or two ago (very much an adult) when I bought my Switch. I was and am awful at them. That is why I appreciate the easy games so much- I think people sometimes forget about people who haven't been gaming their whole lives, and that at the end of the day games are supposed to be fun
Welcome to the gaming community, Boss.
Put the games on easy, 5yrs from now you will be a good gamer.
I've been a gamer since i was 4. and if you saw me play today. you'd think i just picked up my first controller!
I've been play games for over 20 years. Some games I just suck at. And that's OK. I usually start every game on easy until I get a hang of the controls. Nothing wrong with it. Only games I start on hardest difficulty are the recent Spider-Man games. Because let's be honest, it's not hard to hit one or two buttons over and over again. Lmao.
I've been a gamer for 25 years(40 now), and I genuinely do not care about how good or bad at games I am at all. I've got great at some games, mastered one or 2 and am decent enough at the rest. Easy mode, hard, survival, extreme, they are all there to allow you to have the most amount of fun based the experience you want from a game.
Armored Core 1 is one of the few Fromsoft games with a noob mode. If you failed a certain number of times, you become augmented into _Human+_ mode.
Yeah, but that's the bad ending. Human+ means you're a Frankenstein's Monster who has become one with their machine, and the corporations literally own you.
It was a perfect contextual addition to the game as well since you go bankrupt and are essentially forced to sell your humanity and become an experiment to continue which in turn makes the game more easy. In contrast to just changing a difficulty setting and things being easier
Ninja Gaiden Black opened up a ninja dog mode if you died too many times quickly on normal difficulty. You got to choose whether you wanted to drop a level tho.
Sorry had no idea it was number one on the list 🤣
In chrono trigger, I lost to Gato because i kept going back to farm points and forgot to heal up one time. So yes, a noob move.
Same. The fact that he doesn't even try to rhyme after he kicks your ass is so disrespectful.
While technically it's not the game hating on noobs, Shao Khan in one of the Mortal Kombat 3 games could be a proper savage "it's official, YOU SUCK!"
I had a friend play Skyrim for the first time and he was so bad that Hadvar died during the escape from the burning village…
Your friend might have been bad, but Hadvar didn't die. It is hardcoded for Hadvar and Ralof to not be able to die in the opening escape from Helgen mission, as they are essential NPCs.
I’ve been a noob for 30 years.
No
I never felt personally attack by Bruce. It was in fact absolutely hilarious listening to him when I was a kid. Guys' a leg-end. And totally completed spider-man.
Right?! He's probably the only person in the world I would be completely cool with talking crap to me. 😂😂
You forgot about Naughty Dog's original "Jak and Daxter," ergo, when Daxter insults Jak (you) after dying.
Dang 2 videos in under 3 hours. It's a feast from Gameranx.
I knew The Messenger would show up 😂. Dudes a savage. Also, phenomenal game. Soundtrack alone deserves a play-through.
That OJ reference was hilarious 😂
Guess I missed it
@@mtnman8783 I'm not gonna give it away but I will tell you it's in the introduction to Ace Attorney
@@dudewelcome I had to do a little research but I finally got it lol good stuff
“Souls games don’t straight up tell you to give up, they don’t demoralize players right out of the gate.” They absolutely do lmfao the first NPC you meet after the tutorial in Dark Souls does pretty much exactly that🤣
And then almost every other keeps telling you to not go Hollow...
@@Drejzer fair enough, but they nonetheless do make a point to demoralize the player right out of the gate and I love it
The narrator was one of the best things about the old Spider-Man games 😂 Insomniac should have incorporated that into theirs
I was like "Ninja Gaiden Black better be in there somewhere." First game I thought of when I saw the title. Made me wait til the end - great way to keep me watching.
I loved this game when it came out. I wish they'd do a complete remake of the game with Unreal... It would look so awesome.
@@Joreel That would be nice but I would perfectly happy with refresh of the game as is for current systems. I know that's impossible, though, since the original code has been lost.
Grew up with Spider-Man 2 on PS2, and these tutorial messages were great because of the jabs they throw at ya! My favorite being "Some people will look at the controller and go "THERE's ONLY ONE ATTACK BUTTON!". Will you give me a break. All because there's one button that says "attack, doesn't mean it's the only one. It's called a manual." I love this & I wish more games had this style of tutorial!
Boy does that take me back to all the hint markers narrated by bruce cambell, good times going for the completionist route as well as the time trial races and the secret warehouse where you fight all the villains including the cutout ones
Omfg bruce Campbell was the narrator in that Spiderman game how did i never realize this
He was in all 3 movies, too 😁
Bruce Campbell's Spider-Man got me to watch. Was not disappointed
I had no idea that Ninja Gaiden had an easier difficulty. I played the original way back in 2004 and it was either get really good or quit.
Im convinced Falcon only added the lawsuit game SPECIFICALLY for an OJ joke…& I’m here for it😂😂😂
There does need to be a "I've played a game before" button in the options these days lol
Gameranx did a video some time ago about things that gamers just understand that non gamers dont. My boyfriend is NOT a gamer and it's soulcrushing watching him try. After watching that video I was like, "oh. I've been trained on a life of gaming" 😂
All I'm saying is I know it's an MMORPG but: Guild Wars 2, Living World Season 4, Palawa Joko. You have to make your way through a series of traps before the big fight and if you die too often Joko says, "Are you going to set off EVERY trap? Oh, I see! You're a completionist! Do continue." Nearly died during that fight as I was laughing too much. Praise Joko!
Apex legends hates new players
Tom clancys rainbow six siege hates all players 😂

Ninja gaiden will beat you up while insulting your family. Miss the series
Second video today? Let's go! ❤️
I wish they would do this on the Before You Buy days. I'm not interested in some of those games, but I need my daily gameranx fix.
I've lost to Gato before. I was trying to see how many times in a row I could beat him without healing in between so it was only a matter of time before it happened since he is going to hit you, at least a little bit each time.
Pro tip the glove didn't fit because it was leather and coated in blood
There are only 4 kind of people who gets the ace attorney tutorial wrong. People who don't read, people who mashed buttons, people who simply wanted to see what happens and, like franziska would say, "Foolish fools who spouting foolish foolishness"
Skyward Sword is fun but dang ghirahim was brutal during his fights
Instantly recognized Justin Roland's voice in High on Life 😂
👍
Wanted: Dead asks you if you want to switch the difficulty to "Neko - Chan" (NOOB MODE) which translates to "Cat" (if you die too many times). If you do change it to Neko - Chan the game FORCES you to wear CAT EARS throughout the remainder of the game.
So it makes you a cat girl then? lol..
Dmc 3: easy mode is now available
👍
Falcon makes the best lists
"This spot marks our grave... But you may rest here too, if you like."
Appreciate the whole gameranx crew for the consistent uploads and especially the days with multiple uploads. Much love for you guys❤️
See, back in the day we had Game Genies and Game Sharks if a game was to hard. Then they had to up security due to multiplayer and you could no longer use gameshark type devices which directly edit the memory (which could open up to muliplayer cheating), so game devs started to include easier modes on single player games. Games of today are, in general, much easier than games of the 80s/90s.
You are right but there are some other reasons why games were harder. Some games back then did have difficulty options but they weren't standard. Games were much shorter so developers made them harder and more difficult to beat and also because of the American rental market they didn't want someone to rent a game and beat it. Plenty of Konami games were much easier in their Japanese versions.
At one point I got so annoyed by the controls in skyward sword I got some spirit levels and discovered that what the game considered to be holding the wiimote vertically (required for charging the sword attack or something similarly important) was actually skewed. The fancier wiimote plus actually made the game worse
I guess that I like the trash talk, because 3 of my favorites are on this list. Stix, Messenger and Black (that's what our friends called it when we were all hooked) Black was tough!! We did the community thing when playing and swapped every level. Its been many years, but I remember them yelling, "Robbie, we need you." 😂❤
Oh no, whenever I failed in Ace Attorney since the insults are aimed towards Phoenix they never affected me but I'm now realizing all this time they were talking about me...
I wish Bruce Campbell narrated every video game ever
👍
Dude, Quarble is hilarious in The Messenger. His banter is unparalleled.
I lost to the guy in chronotrigger because I got bored and walked away
Bungie literally removing the “role” from its role-playing game bc people don’t want to have to think that far ahead.
It's a video game relax.
@@justacheesecake6232 It was the only video game I actually enjoyed. So fuck right off.

2002 Spiderman deserves a remaster. I remember the vulture lair and fighting shocker in subways. Plus the green goblin battle at the end where you can ride the glider. Such a good game. And you can play as green goblin after u beat it. And the cool arcade modes. Such a classic!!
that's why I always start on hard and hardest on second play. The thing that clicked for me was "Can I play daddy?" difficulty, since then it's always hard lol
Wolfenstein's easiest difficulty is named "Can I play, Daddy?", its description is "for the spineless gamer" and the character is dressed as a baby.
i'll never forget this... in Deadpool when you are at the difficulty choosing a new game the easier you make it for yourself the more of a bb you look like in the selection and the more difficult is the more bloodier 😂😂😂
I love when games talk shit. Makes me want to beat it even more!!!
Sekiro: "Oh no baby. You keep dying... Here, let me help you by making the game harder for you ❣"
Falcon with the OJ Simpson court case joke. 😂
RIP to a legend.

Long shot, but does anyone remember when Josh & Anthony of Let's Game it Out did a playthru of The Messenger? The voices that Anthony did for all the characters was absolutely hysterical.. I've never laugh/cried so hard in my life!
[6:57] I love that Gato celebrates victory over you with a Karaoke burn! 🤣😂🤣
Last years I decided that my first " Souls game" would be Sekiro, heard its pretty cool and liked the setting. After a few days of getting into the combat I got the hang of it. But after a week I had to put the game down as every encounter and wayfinding to the next spot absolutely required googling everything ripping me out of the game everytime. Sould games dont tell you to give up, but they let you die slowly...
Mr. Falcon. Did you ever consider becoming a VA for a game? I mean if they let birds or bald ones into their offices ofc. You surely got the range
It's an oldie but a goodie, The Lost Vikings would give you ever increasingly embarrassing messages the more you failed the same level.
The Simpson's Game that mocks video games in a... video game. When you die, Nelson insults you with "HA-HA Your gaming skills are weak.". After all these years, I still jab my hunny with the insult 🤣❤️❤
The OJ reference out of nowhere during the Ace Attorney part nearly killed me LMAO
The one for Ninja Gaiden was only added in NG Black, Falcon. The OG version made in Japan didn’t have this option. Least I think it didn’t. When they made Black for everyone to experience they incorporated it into the game. This game was the hardest around at the time and yes people were complaining how hard it was big time. This was way before souls and the internet was so combative about souls. Me and my friend just got gud as you would say on normal. Eventually beating all difficulties to Master Ninja mode and beat all arcade fights on Master Ninja too. Still to this day one of my all time favorite games
The Styx game was fun as hell for a cheap stealth game. Fun to play with someone else too
Double upload today lets go!
Had a PS2 game that had a Co-op mode that we could use GameShark on. When you completed the game the narrator who wore a Bane style mask came and berated you at the end. He said something like his grandmother could finish the game that way. It shocked my bud and I and was so hilarious.
It was some sort of driving game that had a post-apocalyptic feel with a flying saucer as a playable vehicle. If anyone remembers it, please give me a name!
From the Depths, without any intentional punishments is so hard for newbies they usually can't proceed without the help of more experienced players. That makes a community. :)

Deadpool straight up insults you when you don't push the DAMN BUTTON
I remember the first "who wants to be a millionaire" game, If you just sat there and not give a name or number of players, Regis Philbin would get pissed off and yell and just quit the game.
One game that doesn’t mock the player but instead mocks the characters is disgaea Now while the player is saved from noobish ridicule, the characters you start with are not In the first world you will acquire two new characters; red magnus and seraphina who are both overlords, they also demonstrate just how clueless they are of battle with not knowing how geo blocks work, among other things It isn’t a jab at the player for being a noob, but it’s sort of pokes fun at your character’s for being noobish
Games insulting the player for whatever reason it is shit. The first Max Payne had the right idea. The way it was worded was something like this : If you breeze through the game, the game will adjust the difficulty to match your skill. Back then, it blew my mind, didn't know that a game can "think" and adjust and didn't know that it was even possible. Nowadays, it may be a standard in games.. Of course i got into pc gaming in my early 30's and all i knew about games was next to nothing, only arcade with coins.
8:40 my man did NOT just meme on OJ’s grave 🤣
Loved that Spider-Man game! I remember playing it at like 7-8 years old when it first came out. One of the more memorable video games of my youth!

OJ Simpson joke with the slight chuckle was perfect 😂
Splosion man was amazing, I need to play it again, I always loved when he did the airplane, such an amazing silly game.
In all it's 22fps glory.
RDR2 has a skip checkpoint option if you fail a particular mission segment by dying a few times for whatever reason. I have seen it come up when I have been messing around but I've never used it. I may never know.
Yeah gta v had the same thing if you failed a checkpoint in a mission a few times
I suck at combat because I have the reflexes of an inebriated sloth and a tendency to panic, but I love adventure games, particularly if they have a good story and exploration.. My strategies are to overlevel as much as possible, and to play on an easier setting (eg between 'normal' and 'too easy)'. Have lots of fun and don't care if I'm a noob. I don't attempt really hard games like the souls like though - that's a recipe for tears.
Ive really gotta play those Ninja Gaiden games, idk why i havent
Happy to see Chrono getting some love its one of the best games i have ever played
i remember playing the OG Metal Gear Solid and losing on purpose to Ocelot so I could get the stealth suit in NG+ and people said that was cheating/easy mode but it was way more fun to use than the bandana.
I love the Styx games. They're a blast. One of my favorite stealth games.
Eagerly waiting for Gaming News tomorrow!
Injury to insult, Ninja Dog was not much easier than Normal. you just got ribbons earlier than bracelets and a few potions more. ah, the good old days ❤
One of the things I HATED about RDR2 is how it skips the entire mission segment if you fail it too many times. And there's no way to restart from the last checkpoint either.
In GTA V, on your fifth fail (and every fail after that), it would ask you if you'd like to skip ahead. With so much dialogue taking place in missions rather than in cutscenes, cutting that option and forcing you to skip ahead seems like a terrible design choice.
@@torgranael Exactly! And most of the time in RDR2, I fail the mission segment ON PURPOSE, because I didn't complete the optional objectives, but because this game doesn't have a restart from the last checkpoint option, you have to restart the entire mission from the start, including the horse riding, hearing the dialogues and all of that, just to fail the optional objectives once again.
I think it was 1992-93, I was playing a baseball game on the SNES, and when I got 3 strike, the player turned to the camera and yelled "Oh COME ON!!!" and broke the bat. I never forgot that as a kid that a video game character got mad at me for sucking LOL. Pretty sure it was "Ken Griffey Jr Major League Baseball"
There's the "you unlocked the Easy Automatic", of DMC3... But that is a rather mild one.
I like picking wrong choice in Ace Attorney games for the funny reaction 😂
No way this video was made when I just decided to replay the pc version of ace attorney and watch the anime
Those high on life interactions are for clueless parents just walking into the room who want to give it a shot
The funny thing is that most of these games came out when I was 4 years old, and when I bought my first computer when I was 11 I played these games but when I was 11 I had no english skills at all, like none. So I didnt even know that these were insults and with "easy" difficulty I still died.
Falcon sounds like the Spider-Man narrator
In crash bandicoot remake if you dying to much you will get an aku-aku (hit protection) buff for free and if you still keep dying the checkpoint will become closer, i think it's the passive aggressive way the dev tell you that you just suck at playing
Playing Kurt angle BGM, while audience shouting 'you suck'
