I don’t feel bad missing my chance at a serving tray; your bride waited a year. Merry Christmas to the recipients 🤗
Lol. Thank you very much!
All boards are cool & magnificent, the blue lagoona & the green looks like flowing water or ocean.
Why don't you make a template out of resin?
Don't understand why this is called craft instead of art. But can hear your heart and how much you love your work!
Thanks again!
Very cool. You don’t have to apologize for the length of your videos. I’d watch no matter the length.
I appreciate that! Thanks
Wow! You really put your creativity to the test here. The boards are incredible. I love your “stick to it “ attitude, you really achieved some amazing looks in these pieces. Great work Jim!
I was in too deep, lol. Thanks
Jim, great job, I love how you show errors and how to fix them. That is worth its weight in gold.😊 Designer Epoxy
Thanks 👍
They are gorgeous. Another possibility for getting rid of the bubbles is a long neck lighter. A torch or alcohol can shorten the life span of the mold. As well if the flame from the torch gets too close to the mold, it can glue the mold to the resin
Thanks for the info!
The Six Million Dollar Serving Board! "We can rebuild it. We have the technology. We can make it better than it was. Better, stronger, prettier!". And a new coffee mug concept to go with your breakfast rolls: 'I like to do things that go round!" After more than a thousand comments, I'm sure folks liked the fish tail serving boards the most - they looked easier to do and those hypershift colors were fantastic! Thanks for these, Jim!
Thank you very much!
Changing things up every now and again is good for the soul. It also shows us the breadth of your creative skills. That black pearl board is just so cool! And yes, silicone is a game changer, no matter what medium you're working with. Fun stuff, Jim! Thanks for giving us some different flavor :)
You’re very welcome! Thanks!
So So many steps, Jim, but what a happy ending!! That hyper shift is awesome. I learned a lot about making serving boards and thanks for showing us all the steps in detail. Other you tube videos seem to cut out a lot of the steps. designer epoxy
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
And people wonder why boards like these are so expensive! 😆 What a ton of work. They're very beautiful though. I love the Everest green, hope it makes another appearance soon!
So true! Thanks
While realizing they're not your favorite type of art, all of the boards look fantastic with those colors and woods. Please keep supplying us with your passions of combining woods and designer epoxy.
Thanks, will do!
Jim, I love your videos. They can never be long enough. As always, simply beautiful pieces and excellent craftsmanship. Thank you for sharing ❤
You are very welcome!
Even if they're not your favourite things to make, the boards look awesome, and the convection patterns, especially on the fishtail boards, are really enhanced by the hypershift pigment!
Thank you very much!
I love them. Anyone would be proud to put them on a table.😊
Thank you very much!
Jim, sometimes you are just too hard on yourself. What is a big mistake/flaw to you is a beautiful piece to us 😊🥰
Wow, thank you
Drill some holes in those two bread boards and you have a couple of old school paddles🤣😂🤣
I had the exact same thought! 😂
Not a bad idea, lol. Thanks
You could trace the outside of the mold and cut out the template then use a divider/compass with a pencil set to the width of the side of the mold then trace it around the template to get the inside dimension. Then trim it off on the band saw. The other idea is to pour a half inch thick board made from Designer Epoxy resin and use it as a template.
Doing a pour is the best idea. Thanks
❤ the colors and hypershift are outstanding! Really appreciate knowing just how much it takes to make these boards. I see the value in the silicone molds, very educational. Thanks again Jim
Thanks so much!
Those fishtail boards look like ceremonial shields for some tribe from a fantasy film. I adore these pieces.
It does! Thank you very much!
The hypetshift is quite hypnotic, couldn't see all the colours until the very end😂. Thanks again Jim
My pleasure! Thanks
Good morning. Your boards are beautiful. I would use the trays as wall art.
Most probably would. Thanks
The resin is outstanding, love the black one. Just great works of art that's usable. Thanks for all your hard work and sharing it with all of us.🌿 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you very much!
I love your videos. This isn't too long, if you're teaching as you go, and that us what you do... teach.
I appreciate that! Thanks
Jim! I GOT TIRED JUST WATCHING! Seriously, I got tired FOR you. Man, that was a lot of work but the results are spectacular! Those fishtail boards are stunning! The hypershift in the black resin is beyond words. The pinkish red tones are especially beautiful! I'm with you, I like things that spin! I can watch you do the flat work but I'd turn into a madman if I tried it! It was a fun video and someone got themselves some really nice pieces of art! Well done!
Thank you very much!
Those boards are beautiful! Love the fishtail!
Thanks so much!
Deep purple and high speed hammering, 2 of my favourite things in 1 video! Nice change up video Jim.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Many times when I’m done, I say , well that took longer than I thought; I knew I wasn’t alone. The boards look great, thanks for sharing the process.
I e said that a time or too as well, lol. Thanks
Just found your channel about 2 months ago. I absolutely got hooked instantly! This is my first time commenting. My dad was a wood worker, welder, and loved fishing/hunting when it came to his hobbies. I learned alot from my father when it comes to shop and outdoors. We lost him 4 years ago to an aggressive brain cancer that took him in a fast 6 months! Not a day goes by where I don't think about what ive lost and cant get back. This video just made me think of him so much. The black fish board was practically made for him and I. First off a fish are favorite past time both fishing and fish keeping. Bright green my favorite color with black. Purple my father's favorite color over black. He always said dont be the type of man who says you can't love purple or pinks. I wish one day to have or create such a beautiful piece of art to remember my father. I would hang that on my wall with his name and years carved in it. Sorry for such a heavy message as my first post, but thank you for this sir. I was smiling the entire video and felt like I was watching it with my dad over my shoulders. Thank you 100% subscriber for life!
Wow, thank you so much! Sorry for your loss, he sounded like a guy I could of had a few drinks with and talk about woodworkings and tools! Thanks again!
Those dark, deep colors are beautiful. Love to watch the flat work occasionally. Maybe a bowl to match that dark green…😉
The dark green is a hit. Thanks
They’re gorgeous boards, the colors are beautiful. Lot of work yet it shows your skills you have in your trade. Excellent 👍❤️
Thank you very much!
I look forward to your projects each week. The serving trays look great, but they do look like they take a lot of time to make. Designer Epoxy.
Thank you so much!
Between those gorgeous colors, the HyperShift, and the beautiful wood, these are absolutely fantastic.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful job, Jim. It was a lot of work but it was worth it in the end!
Yes it was! Thanks
@@SpragueWoodturningyeah you definitely put the time and hard work in on these! Turned out beautifully and well worth it imo, bc I'm not doing the work of course. And now you know what to do and what not to do if you ever do it again. Someone might drop alot of money in your lap for one and you can't refuse!
Those trays and boards are absolutely beautiful. You can give Ken Moon a run for his money. Great job!👍👍
Thank you very much!
Wowzers! The two fishtail boards are STUNNING! Well done Jim!
Glad you like them! Thank you very much!
Since I seen you on KZhead for the first time I've really got into watching woodturning I can't believe how beautiful they.
Welcome aboard! Thank you very much!
Despite the issues, they came out great! Nice job as always! 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome boards! Hyper-Shift takes these beautiful colors to the next level! 💚💜
I think so too! Thanks
I really love how the hypershift highlights the convection cells and flow patterns in the fluids. Great video as always, Jim!
Thank you very much!
Those fish boards are absolutely scrumptious!
Thank you very much!
Jim, you have made me swap from Superclear to Designer Epoxy. Beautiful boards!
Great to hear! Thanks!
Jim, I appreciate all the skill, time, and effort you put into these wonderful trays. I especially love the fishtail trays. Thank you!😊
You are very welcome!
Can’t say these serving trays bring out your artistic skills anyway near your round work. However, the tray you did for your wife was the most artistic. The contrast between the very dark epoxy & the lighter wood with the dark veins was almost like a picture. Somehow reminded me of a forest at night, but that’s my brain!
Thank you very much!
Jim, I had not realized how beautiful those hyper shifts were until you did it. In that black resin, the colors are incredible.
Thank you very much!
Hi Jim, this may have already been posted, but making a template for the inside of your mold might be as easy as a layer of fiberglass cloth saturated with resin while it is in the mold. Pop it out, once it is cured!
Thanks for the tip!
Hi 👋, Jim , I hope you are keeping safe and well, I’ve only just started watching I thought I better say before I forget, if you put your mould down onto the board and draw around the outside of it, that’s the mould that is, then measure the thickness of the wall of the mould and then reduce the drawing that you’ve done around the outside of the mould by the thickness that should give you a pretty good size piece of board to go inside the mould, it should work he might have to titivate it about a little bit 😂,
I thought of that, but the outside is different than the inside. Thanks
Every Friday I think to myself, I wonder what Jim’s up to today? Serving boards! The green is by far my favorite…looks like someone just jumped into a lagoon. Gorgeous!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful serving boards, Jim, but as you said, I enjoy your turnings much more. Looking forward to your next creation.
Thank you very much!
Love your work the fish board are very pretty and the trays are very beautiful too
Glad you like them! Thanks
Lindíssimo. 🙌🏻🌟✨🇧🇷
Thank you very much!
Don’t you dare cut out the parts where you mix the resin. I love that part. 😊 I loved this video, lots of new stuff! That black Pearl fishtail board is mind blowing! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you very much!
The hyper shift in the black pearl is absolutely stunning. Awesome video and craftsmanship as always. Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
The black with hyper shift and designer epoxy is the one I liked best, but they are all vibrant and colourful pieces of art Jim.
Thank you very much!
Jim, Awesome job! I was trying very hard to tell you not too put the swirls in and I know my mouth fell open when you did it! BOY WAS I WRONG!!! I'm jealous of whomever got the green fish! Great call on your idea!
Thank you very much!
Jim, THe multiple steps you had to take on these boards is overwhelming, but you came out with beautiful pieces.
Thank you very much!
Absolutely gorgeous Jim. Take great care and see you next week.
Thanks, you too!
LOL😂 I just noticed that the purple fishtail has a smiley face in the wood.
Thank you very much!
Those really are a lot of work. Thank you for showing us how you do it. It's good to know what you're getting into. That silicone mold really worked well.
Thank you very much!
Someone is addicted to hypershift, lol. I like your sanding table, gives me an idea. Great job on the boards, even after the cheap mold gave so many issues. Way to go Jim. Designer epoxy
Cool, thanks!
They're all very nice, but that black one is something special
Thank you very much!
And here I thought I'd only be watching "turning"! Super creative and beautiful. Great work...again! Thank you for sharing your craft, friend! 👊🏼😬 Cheers!!!
Thank you very much!
Hi Jim it's Dale again one thing to consider when you're casting is a Silicone mold Will keep it's shape up to over 500°F were as PPE Will warp about 120°F 😮 I know this because I left one of my Table Saw Jigs out side in the Sun and guess what 😮 you guessed it. It warped! I put Silicone molds in my oven and bake them at some were between 300°F and 425°F and use them over and over Thank you and PLEASE Keep turning I love your you tube Channel I am just learning to Turn but I love it!
Thanks for the tip!
The boards turned out very nice. I would have loved to see more of that beautiful wood in the fishtail board. They are absolutely beautiful!! Great job! Bravo!
Thank you very much!
I am in awe of your talent you really know your craft. Love, love, love the green suppose to be black fish board. That hyper shift is some amazing stuff.
Also that wax made the hyper shift come alive like tiny little sparks of light
Thank you very much!
Please don't apologize for the length of the video, I love the long videos! And I really enjoyed seeing you do flat work as well. The charcuterie boards and serving trays came out beautifully! Like anything you do, I know I'd be more than happy to own one of these, so I'm sure whoever commissioned them will be ecstatic! Especially the Mrs!! Poor thing had to wait so long for her board! Shame shame. Lol I'm sure she'd rather wait to have a gorgeous piece like you did for her now. Can't wait to see next weeks video! I didn't know Designer Epoxy had such nice molds too! Will we see some Christmas project or ornaments?
Ya need patience when your married to me, haha. Might skip the ornament thing this year. Thanks
The hyper shift is amazing! Yup, I’m one of those who like watching you mix the colors lol
Awesome! Thank you!
Those boards are awesome Jim. But very labor intensive. Well Done
Yes they are! Thanks
your flat work is very good. The turning work is much better, you also seem much more at ease and creative with the lathe work. I absolutely enjoy watching a craft maker who loves his crafting as much as you do. Thanks for the chance to watch and learn from you.
My pleasure! Thank you very much!
Very cool! Interesting to see how much work really goes into something so deceptively simple. Keep it coming, Jim!
Thanks, will do!
That hyper shift is definitely something else.
It certainly is, thanks!
Ok. First of all I am sorry my comment is so late. Was a little under the weather and nodded off during the premier. I am sad that those are spoken for. Beautiful work as always. Like you I love the hyper shift. It just adds something special. I find that one of the frustrations and joys of being a maker is when things don't go as planned. Having to make corrections drives you crazy. But there is a certain satisfaction in seeing the finished project turn out well. And you Learn something to boot. Excellent and wonderful creations.
Thank you very much!
Whew! I see why these are a labor of love, so much work goes into them! They are beautiful!
Thank you so much!
A lot of time and effort put into these boards, but WOW! They're awsome. I especially like the black/green/pink board! One of my favorites of all of the beautiful pieces you've made and shared with us 😀
Thanks so much!
Designer Epoxy Funny I started a few boards a week ago, went on a holiday vacation up to Canada from Cali seen you uploaded this conveniently and answered the burning questions in the back of my mind 😂
Is the question, these boards are a pain in the ass to make, haha. Thanks
@@SpragueWoodturning I’m like 30% excited to get back to my boards 😂
Well they say , change is as good as a rest. The boards are looking super nice and gotta love Designer Epoxy. It's the best that I found and use.
Totally agree! Thanks
the swirl pattern on the black fishtail board makes me think of a peacock feather, it's gorgeous!
Thank you very much!
The best template hack is to pour a thin layer of clear epoxy in the mold and let it set up. A perfect match and can be used over and over.
That's a great idea! Thanks
@@SpragueWoodturning you’re welcome! I really enjoy your videos and amazing creations. Can’t wait for the next one!!
Gorgeous serving boards. Purple is my favorite color. I hope I can win one! Love the Designer Epoxy and their colors and Hyper Shift! I hope your wife loves her blue board. Love your work Jim! The boards are beautiful!!! ❤️❤️
She does, thanks!
Wow,Wow,Wow! I love that light green serving board! As my mom always said, do it as I told you, not as I do it 😂 they are beautiful,Jim! My husband does cutting boards. You're right they are a lot of work. He makes his own wax also, same recipe as yours. Im pretty sure. Bee's wax and mineral oil. He doesn't have fancy cans though,😅😅 he doesn't sell it.
Lol, it’s all about the fancy cans. Thank you very much!
nice boards and serving trays ... love the green serving tray... glad you were able to salvage them in the end...
Thank you very much!
I started watching you a couple months ago. Just learning to turn wood after using resin for molds and tumblers for quite a while. I love the beauty in spalted and what others would call ugly or rotten wood. I ordered some designer epoxy and turned a spalted branch then cut it about 6 inch lengths (3 pcs) and cast it using my vacuum chamber and cold method. I just got some carbide tools today and hopefully will try to use them a bit tomorrow on some old stuff. You inspire me. You are doing the things I have been dreaming about! Love the polka dot bowl!!!
Thank you very much! Welcome aboard!
I have all the supplies to make my own boards but have been putting it off. It was so nice to see someone I follow make some 😊
You can do it! Thank you very much!
These are absolutely the best I have ever seen.
Thank you very much!
Wow. That is a lot of effort. Thanks for including the entire process. Beautiful boards! Designer epoxy.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful as always, and I can't blame you for not wanting to do more flat work that was a lot of work.
Thank you! Cheers!
The dark green board is my favorite. The pattern you added reminds me of a fish skeleton. So beautiful.
Thank you very much!
All these serving boards are absolutely beautiful
The serving boards turned out great Jim. I know it’s a lot of hard work, but they look wonderful.
Many thanks!
Really nice work Jim. Worth the effort. Made a number of river style charcuterie boards, and never used an epoxy top coat or finish. Finish sand to 1000 and then apply a butcher board wax. Rightly or wrongly.
I wouldn’t of either but I need to fill all those bubbles. Thanks
The boards are beautiful. That hyper shift is amazing. Some lucky folks got these.
I think so too! Thank you very much!
Silicone molds are the best. These look amazing. Nice to see that peoe see what actually goes into making these. Justifies cost for sure. Great job
Thank you very much!
I love the black one. It reminds me of the iridescence you can find in a black bird feather sometimes. Gorgeous.
Yes, it does have that vibe. Thanks
That hypershift is so unreal! Love it. Designer epoxy.
It really is! Thank you very much!
Jim, you are so right about the fish mold from Designer Epoxy it is awesome. My favorite is the green fish cutting board. All the boards are beautiful in their own way.
Thank you very much!
Nice boards. The hypershift definitely adds complexity to the epoxy.
Thank you very much!
These boards are gorgeous! I love the river boards, such great colours. I know they're not your favourite to do, but you still put the effort in and it really shows!
Glad you like them! Thanks
The boards are beautiful. Now this is a project my husband and I could do together. Him the wood & sanding, me the resin. Once we get his small wood shop set up. See the reason this comment is so late is it was a busy day. We closed on our first ever house. Now we start making it accessible for me. Then his work shop. Then mine. Don’t let your new place get you down. It’s nerve wracking. But it is doable.
We’ve been thought this process five times and its never easy, lol. Thank you very much!
The black, green, and purple one is Brilliant!
Thank you so much!
That black board is stunning! By far my favorite of the set.
Thank you very much!
Another great class in perseverance and problem solving. As usual, I’m jealous of the folks getting a piece of your work.
Thank you very much!
