This is the updated BMW M5 Competition!
Now we all know that a new BMW M is going to be impressive, right? If you’re lucky enough to be in the market for one, then it’s almost guaranteed that power and performance are going to be exceptional. But then again, with the new M5 coming in at a starting price of £102,000, you’d expect it to be!!
So the question is, with this only being a mid-life facelift, should you really decide to go for an all-new M5 when it costs so much? Yes, it might be graced with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 which can hit 60mph in 3.3 seconds, but is it worth it?

That was a massive surprise. Not one I’d disagree with though. Ironic - BMW has made the M550i so good that it unseated the M5 Competition. Ironic and astonishing.

0 to 60 is not as important as it used to be, the limiting factor is now only traction not power, in the 90s / 00s / 2010s this was not the case. More important are the 62 to 124 times imo.
@@anyexpat Have to 100% disagree with that statement, 0-60 is the only thing most consumers pay attention to especially out here in the US the two questions I got from customers looking for a performance car when I worked at a Mercedes was, “How much horsepower does it have” and “whats the 0-60” as far as car analytics and on track performance consumers dont care because a large majority are never going to even visit a race track its all about who’s car has more power and who’s car is quicker off the line its sad but its true

I recently got a run in one of these, they are insanely quick. As Matt says it’s almost too fast for a road car. The acceleration, grip and brutal gear changes are mind boggling.

I love this Mr David , I love his strategies and method, I was able to withdraw $13,500 in a week. There's more to the system than the eye sees sometines. Sometimes this video don't really help as they end up confusing you more. When I came across Mr David the confusion ended.

I have worked with/for BMW for 34 years and I’m currently the service test driver for the dealer I’ve worked for (27 years here) . I have driven thousands of BMW’s over the years and I can say this man is spot on about the 550 being all you need for the street. No one really needs an M car for the street but they are a helluva lot of fun to drive!!!! And yes the 550 is more comfortable to drive especially on long trips.

Great review Matt 👍 I have a 2019 F90 M5 (non-comp) and I picked that over a comp car because it’s slightly softer on UK roads and I’m not a driving god and it is without doubt still an absolutely epic car. I’m not sure what the 0-60 of the ‘normal M5’ is but it’s quick. I saved £27,000 off list and it’s s fully loaded with the adaptive cruise, massage seats, better lights etc etc. The LCi is no doubt a great car and probably a better car than mine but the pre-facelift is also epic and now a lot cheaper than a new M5 comp. If I were to be buying again - a) you can only get the comp car, you don’t have the choice of a normal softer car b) don’t buy a new one, get either a pre-reg new non-LCi or a used pre-facelift with low mileage. Regardless of the fact it’s no sports car, it’s still exciting to drive, I love the sound for the sports exhaust makes in Sports+ and handles very well for a 2T barge!

I drove the M5 Competition at a BMW track day last summer, and it was impressively good. We kept on the safety nannies but it was quite easy for an amateur to get it up to 130 on the straight and then brake quickly to enter the corners and chicanes without losing control. The acceleration and braking performance is outstanding. We didn’t get to drive it on the street but I believe that it would not be as smooth and comfortable on rougher roads as my daily driver 540. The customers for this class of car will have more than one car, undoubtedly, so daily driving comfort should not be a consideration.

And no one needs more than the M550i it is already a seriously fast sedan and saving yourself 30k. The gap between the M550i and the M5 is too small that is why he recommends the M550i over the M5.

I think you can get the boot to lock too from the key, I think it is a programmable setting, set at the garage for free. I had a powered open/close boot from my key on my 2001 E38. I find it hard to believe this is not available nowadays. Kxx

Hey Matt! From memory, you ought to be able to close the boot with the key by holding the boot button until it clicks shut. If you let go of the button before that, the boot will stop closing. Hope this helps someone! 👌🏻 Declan @ BMW

Around 4:40 he says that you can't shut the boot using the key. Actually you can, you just need to keep the button pressed and it will close the boot. It will stop the closing motion directly when you let go of the button on the key.

Drag race between the new M5 Competition and the M550i. That's the purest, truest way to see if the difference is worth 30k...
M5 will be faster. does it matter whether its by 0.1 second or 1 second. lets not kid ourselves, people will buy these cars for the flex (they're both jack of all traders, masters...) . The M5 is so much more desirable, its worth the extra 30k for the fruits that come with that alone.

@@markoobradovic1825 Agreed, black out the grille, get it in that beautiful Isle of Man Green if you can and you’re sorted. I think the big grille suits the M3 and M4 a lot better than the standard 4 series, because it doesn’t have the chrome bits around and within it.

I remember when the V10 M5 first came out. I was convinced BMW designers pinned an A0 poster of me in their HQ and said lets make a car this guy will love and make sure he cannot afford it. But worry not I am over it now.

I just can’t bring myself to get rid of my 2015 E63 AMG S Model. The features in this are great, but there is nothing that compares to the sound of the 5.5l AMG V8 (with mufflers removed and Eurocharged tune to 650bhp). The sound is just so good. I like new cars and never have anything older than 2 years old for the family car, but for fun, I ride motorcycles, but for fun when I need a car, I can’t find anything worth upgrading to.
That front is perfect, should be available as optional on M3 and M4 too
