#trane #cvhf #pm Started up this centrifugal, and very quickly, it went into a surge condition. Had to baby it to get it out so it would run. Also replaced the oil filter on a Trane RTHD.

  • The thing about huge chillers, during cold starts like this, there will be some surging. I watched a clip of a 950 Ton Trane Centravac centrifugal that's older than you and me put together start up after a long winters nap and annual, and it was surging like a SOB. It took awhile, but it settled into a stable state and everyone was happy. The turbine on it is as big as most jet engine intakes!

  • Man,for years all I had was the Carrier 23xl/ 250 ton,6 in one bldg and 4 in another. You could not talk anywhere near the chiller room, they were sooooooo loud! Thx for the video

    • That RTHD is pretty loud.....but not as loud as the RTHB. Any screws are loud as hell. Centrifugals are thankfully much quieter.

    • It still needs some work and it was struggling all day. It's quite humid here so she's struggling to make a dent on the building. Ended up shutting her down and firing up the other centrifugal after she started surging like 5 hours later. Thanks for the comment

    • @@jasonjohnsonHVAC I’ve seen them take a few days here, have to deal with high humidity too

    • You need a TON more than that to set foot into a chiller. Your first jobs will be installing ducting.

    • @Android_Warrior I took two years at a technical college, got my universal and IMACA refrigerant usage cards, and they wanted to put my overweight butt up in attics to do ductwork, at best.

  • First you need to take the purge out of adaptive. Dumbest thing ever. 7 psi at 27% should of told you that there was air in the machine. Oil pressure is extremely low for a Trane machine. Yeah surging, adaptive mode calculates how long and when it should run. Auto mode starts the purge when the machine runs. Adaptive mode was thought for electrical efficiency. Dumd idea.
