    • @@55Quirll There is one breed of domestic cat that likes to swim and that is the orange and white Turkish Van Cat. I recently discovered that 2 other breeds will sometimes swim and those are the Maine Coon and Norwegian Forest Cat. Oddly, all 3 of the breeds will go swimming in very cold waters during winter.

  • It's sad that people think animals don't have love and emotions. I have three cats. Two weeks ago one of them got sick and wouldn't eat. After barely eating for almost a week, my other two cats refused to eat because the sick one wouldn't eat. I took the sick cat to two different vets who didn't know what was wrong. I figured she had an upset stomach and gave her smaller meals more often. After about a week or so she started eating and the other two waited and watched her eat. Once they were satisfied she was eating only then would they eat. It was the craziest thing I had ever seen, because it was obvious they were hungry, but no matter how hard I tried they refused to eat until she did.

Basically they lived/died closely together. Their bond was incredible. I literally had my cats from age 13-35!....it makes me want to raise 3 brother cats again. • Words, words, words. It is really interesting - the nature vs nurture debate must apply to the animal kingdom, also. I guess we’re all a bit of both. My two fur babies (litter mates) were found in a back alley in Toronto but the rescue crew couldn’t locate their mother, unfortunately. They were only a few days old at best guesstimate & so were dropper fed at first, then bottle fed by their wonderful foster moms until I came along and adopted them at 4 months old. They are very dog-like in their behaviour. They didn’t even meow til they were 3. Even today, my little boy grunts instead of meowing. But he’s a bit demanding by nature anyway, to put it mildly! They play fetch and follow me everywhere, come right away when they’re called, don’t like to sit on laps but have to sit nearby us at all times. They’re indoor cats but I walk Finn on a leash (my little girl Shu is too anxious for the big bad outdoor world). It’s hard to describe accurately since lots of cats have quirks but they’re just unlike any cats I’ve ever seen (and I’ve had both cats and dogs my whole life). It must be down to being separated from their mom so early on and being raised by humans. Baby animals learn what they live, just like we humans. Although I do my best not to grunt and I hate playing fetch so, who knows... 😹

Please, study some basic biology... these feelings are hardwired in us, since millions of years. How else do you think our distant forefathers could survive? Hate and anger towards mortal enemies have been essential for our survival through the evolution. It sounds horrible, I know, but enemies always exist when we have to fight for our lives, for living space and/or food. Just look at nature today! The function of love is for holding the group, pack or familiy unit together, while fear and hate makes us alert towards predators that wants to kill you.

    • Most people don't make money doing rescue unless they are very well known sometimes they can have a paycheck as well because they dedicate all their time to it but most people who do rescue also work and put their own money into it it just depends on how well they're known and how good they're donators are but you know how much it costs sometimes even to rescue one animal? It costs a lot in vet care

My mother took her to rhe vet, he told my mom to get a puppy or kitten to nurse. The neighbor had a cat, that had just had kittens, but it would not take care of them. So mom brought all five home and our little terrier Tiki loved those kittens and raised them.

    • The old saying is: " Just because someone has a baby it does not make them a mother" If one has that inborn desire to nurture and love they can help them mother and even a father can be as what we would feel is a mother because many have the empathy to love in that way to. Just some lack in the area of the need to care for another and love them in that way ( That is how it sounds to me, and the old saying was something like I posted and the meaning is in it) Guess al species have that same ability in how they can love and care for others, especially those that are helpless and need them to protect and love them, no matter who they feel gave them birth.

My sweet dog Marley mothered them like this and they had such a bond I had to keep them. Now, I am much so a cat person and can't imagine life without them. Well, life would have less pulled strings in the furniture and less playful scratch marks on my hands at all times, but I wouldn't trade it. I love this story, I can so relate! :)

    • Good for Marley! The way to stop the furniture scratching is to immediately redirect to an acceptable scratching area (toy, scratching post). To stop the play scratching, when they do it, say OUCH and stop playing. They're smart, they will learn. Marley just didn't care about teaching them those things in favor of teaching them love, trust and acceptance. Animals are awesome.

    • Usually from what I've heard panting is oftentimes a sign of distress in a cat. But considering she was raised as a singleton raised by a pack of dogs she's probably taken on some of their characteristics quite a bit & dogs tend to just pant for many reasons. So as long as they watch for distress in her she is probably just fine panting like a dog some. Ironically I've also seen a picture of a husky raised by a cat sitting in a window with their paws curled in the cats classic meatloaf position. It's hilarious the way animals will take after those who raised them whatever species they are.

  • One of the most heartwarming youtube vids I've ever seen. I'm an old guy, mostly alone, and my best friend is the stray cat I took in two years ago. He's my best buddy. He's the seventh cat I've lived with, and I love him. He's quite smart too -- Maine Coon flavored he is. Comeback Kids is great !!

    • My big sister died a very traumatic death when I was 33 and my cats are my best friends now. They literally help heal me because they’re always there. Even in times when I. Feel like I can hardly smile or laugh again they make me laugh. I think it’s called animal therapy and animals help heal sad hearts! More than anything. That’s why I love them so much.
